I am literally begging, BEGGING modern media to portray healthy relationships. enough cheating. enough infidelity. enough disrespect. show me people who love each other, proper communication, and a strong mental as well as physical connection. I want plots about people who are madly in love with each other and STAY madly in love with each other. please. I am losing my mind.

“The uncomfortable truth is that the humps don’t end, even if we win the lottery, shed twenty pounds, or get hired as a Nutella taste tester. Our lives, and all the things worth enjoying in them, don’t come after the humps—they are the humps. The ups and downs, problems and solutions, challenges and triumphs are what pave this journey. They don’t always make it look pretty, but no one ever promised they would.”
— Humble the Poet, Things No One Else Can Teach Us (Page 133)
I’m really over my local grocery stores being dystopian hellscapes. I’ve slowly come to grips with the fact that this new corona reality is going to be present for at least the next few weeks if not months, but at the very least can people adjust their buying habits and stop stockpiling like they’re outfitting a wartime bunker? Why do you need to buy all the damn chicken breasts??
We’re out of laundry detergent here. Why the FUCK are y’all wearing enough clothes to wipe out Walmart’s fucking detergent supply?!?!
Where are you even wearing clothes? We’re not allowed to go anywhere??
I have been experiencing similar frustrations, but a few comments here and there have made me slow down and consider things from all angles.
-when we are home all day, we genuinely do use more toilet paper. Even just my husband and I. I used to leave the house at 6:30am and get home at like 6pm. My husband left at 7:15 and got home at 5:20. That’s 12.5 hours a day for me and 9 hours a day for him that we were not home. Multiply that by 5. Now, quite suddenly, we are home for all of those hours and never going to the bathroom anywhere else. That’s happening to adults everwhere- and kids! Think about a family of 4!
-most people are cooking more meals. I forgot about this because I have dietary restrictions, so we already cook a lot. We made breakfast every morning, I took leftovers for lunch while my husband packed his own, and we cooked dinner more nights than we went out. Our eating habits have barely changed at all. That’s not true for a lot of households. A lot of households were sending kids out the door in the mornings with something they could carry, like poptarts, while the adults skipped breakfast or did the same. The kids ate school lunch while the parents grabbed something near the office. They cooked some nights and went out others. But now, quite suddenly, they have time to cook real breakfast for the family and they’re all home for lunch and they order out for dinner a lot less. This is why there are food shortages of all kinds.
-idk about laundry detergent specifically, but I forsee two possible reasons: 1. People are scared. My husband’s work just suddenly laid of 35-40 people yesterday. 3.3 million Americans applied for unemployment already and they’re estimating that the unemployment rate has already risen to 5.5% (numbers as of 3/27). And it’s only going to keep getting worse. It’s scary anyway, of course, but a large number of people are unemployed or might become unemployed for the first time in their lives. They don’t know the process or what the benefits actually are or anything. So they stock up a bit while they still have a paycheck to make sure they have what they need while they navigate the unfamiliar process. They grab 2 things of laundry detergent because they’re almost out of detergent and don’t know if they’ll have a job when the first bottle runs out. 2. People on the front lines are doing more laundry. All those nurses/doctors and grocery store workers and restaurant workers and city employees (trash, government, police, fire, etc.) and construction workers and janitors are still getting dressed and going to work every day. And, if I were out there working while a deadly virus was spreading all over the world, I sure as hell would come home and IMMEDIATELY undress/shower and change clothes. And honestly, I wouldn’t be re-wearing any of my PJs either, just to be safe. This means all of those people are both producing more laundry than before and doing laundry more frequently.
I completely understand your frustration- I was literally in tears last weekend trying to find the things we need- but this is one of those times where we as humans need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. We should look at the big picture and help each other instead of lashing out. 💛
A bit of a different perspective.
This perspective is a lot more calming.
everyone who says they’re not going to vote if biden gets the nomination knows they’re also passing up on voting for other shit, right?
like, just some of the seats up for voting this year:
35 senate seats
13 governors
a shitload of state legislature and other local elections
every single fucking house of representatives seat
you know the shit that’s been happening in the house since 2018? you know how the senate has been stonewalling fucking everything? did you know that Mitch McConnell’s seat is one of the seats up for grabs this year? if you give a fuck about non-shitty laws being passed and not giving the republicans control of every government branch (again), then you should fucking vote.
and in case that wasn’t pants-shitting enough, the 2020 census means that the state governments elected this year get to choose the redistricting process that determines districts for the next 10 years. if the republicans take your state legislature, it is practically a guarantee that your state will be gerrymandered to hell. if you give a fuck about gerrymandering (and trust me, republicans do), then you should fucking vote.
if you let all this shit slide by staying home on election day, if you give up your vote because the only election you know or care about it is the presidential one, that’s not fucking praxis.

“Recently, my son said to me after seeing a ballet on television: ‘It’s beautiful, but I don’t like it.’ And I thought, Are many grown-ups capable of such a distinction? It’s beautiful, but I don’t like it. Usually, our grown-up thinking is more along the lines of: I don’t like it, so it’s not beautiful. What would it mean to separate those two impressions for art making and for art criticism?”
