The Nimbasa City Ferris Wheel is certainly a sight to behold.
May tilts her head upward, considering the white contraption above her. The Pokéball shaped cars swivel back and forth as they spin in a slow, gentle circle. She’s absolutely enthralled at the sight of it, and there is no way she’s not going on it. Besides, Hoenn has nothing like it.
Lips curling upward at the thought of watching the city beneath her, by herself no less, she tucks her hands into her pockets and walks towards the ticket station, pulling out her wallet to save time.
She learns the name of the Ferris wheel as she takes her ticket and exchanges a few words. Rondez-View, a clever pun that she most definitely does not let a chuckle out at. May ignores the lady at the stands saying that it’s a couple’s ride, and steps into the line with one final thank you.
It’s a painful twenty minutes until she reaches the front, but she’s there. She hands her ticket to the man at the front, meaning to go in and shut the car door, but before she can do so someone else is shoved in.
May blinks, already seated. She means to get up again and ask politely to get out, but it’s too late. She’s been trapped inside with another person, one she doesn’t recognize. The Ferris Wheel starts again and they lift off into the air, May keeping steady balance on her bench. Hmm. This is an awkward situation, to say the least.
She meets eyes with the stranger, arching a brow.
“Pleasure seeing you here,” May states, a small smile on her face. It’s not a pleasure at all and her face certainly doesn’t show it, but she’s never been ungrateful. And perhaps this could be an opportunity of sorts. “Is this your first time here?”
She stuffs her hands into deep wool pockets, eyes blinking at her surroundings. She’s on a bench, hidden a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the trainers running by. Unova is a bit of an unusual place, isn’t it, she muses to herself, eyeing the starter — Oshawott, was it? — scuttling by, a boy quick at its heels.
Her own hand lingers on her starter resting in his ball. It feels like years (it has been) since May first set foot into Birch’s lab and received a Pokémon of her own. How strange, but a distant memory lying in the recesses in her mind. Curious.
She lets out a tiny huff of discomfort, huddling closer to herself. It’s really cold, now that she thinks about it. Hoenn is humid and hot and literally all she can remember from home is the constant heat or the scent of the sea. It doesn’t help that May’s been people watching and just sitting there, anyway. She looks rather suspicious.
In summary, Unova, as nice as it is, isn’t Hoenn. The constant hurrying of the people and the crowds, oh the crowds, are too much for her. Tourists and locals alike have pushed her aside without another word, and the lack of apologies always make her bristle. Hoenn is calmer, that’s for sure. She isn’t going to stay here for too long, but she’s trying to experience the League here for herself. It’s unfortunate that May has never been adaptable.
Another annoyed noise escapes her. She looks away from the little boy and his Oshawott — who currently are running in circles around a berry tree, again and again, — and looks up to the sky. It’s going to snow. May watches as the first beginnings of it begin to flutter down, and decides it’s probably a good time to leave.
May stands up to stretch her legs, and immediately shudders. She will never get over how cold it is. She means to take a step forward, but a stranger moves into her way before she can do so. May saves herself from embarrassment by swiveling out of the way, but whoever that person is isn’t so lucky. They tip over, and May is almost sorry to say that she lets out a tiny yelp of alarm. She reaches her hand out, grabbing their arm at an awkward angle, and lifts them up in the nick of time. Whew.
She lets them go as quickly as she’s picked them up, stepping back to assess the damage. They don’t seem to be hurt, just a bit ruffled. An apologetic smile spreads across her face as she raises her hands in the air in mock surrender.
