Leather loafers gently echo down the street as Robin takes quiet steps down the sidewalk, his nose buried deep in his umpteenth reading of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood. He knows it’s not good to walk distracted, but he’s done it so many times it’s essentially second nature at this point—and when he has a chance to read his favorite book, he absolutely must take it.
That’s why his eyes were cast downward just in time to spot a pen rolling swiftly down the hill, and also why they were still distracted when a stranger bumped into his shoulder and nearly knocked the book from his hand.
“No worries.” Robin turns towards the utensil, and begins to walk alongside the other. “I assume that’s your errant pen? I’ll help.”
Walking with a book in hand was a sight that Alphonse was, at the very least familiar with - if not guilty of, actually. “Thanks,” he spared a quick glance towards the man and flashed a smile before practically diving down to grab the pen.
In all honesty it probably would have been easier just to let it go and then find a new pen from the hotel or something, but people often didn’t give Alphonse credit for just how stubborn he was.
Now his papers were practically crumpled in one hand and he had kicked dirt up onto his pants, but he was victorious. “Oh, that’s such a good story!” He didn’t seem to pay mind to anything else except for the book cover, no matter how strange he might have come across. “Are you enjoying it?”
