It’s crazy which things make you cry when you’re rummaging through the belongings of a late loved one. This was a sign my aunt planned to hang on her guest bathroom door once renovations were complete...before she got sick. . I attended my first commitment ceremony, (before gay marriage was legal in Missouri,) when I was in 3rd grade, (roughly 2002.) Im very grateful to have grown up in a family that honored and respected love above all else and shunned and discouraged hatred. Yesterday, when bragging to coworkers that my boyfriend wrapped his sandwich in parchment paper to avoid using a plastic bag, a coworker laughed. The topic of *~the~* turtle video with the straw got brought up and how Adam and I are both making an effort to reduce our single use plastic and plastic in general. The coworker laughed again. The coworker then said “you know the turtle is fine right? It’s not a big deal.” And it bothered me for quite a bit. . . It is a big deal to me. . . I purposefully took this picture to show, Ad and I aren’t 100% plastic free yet. We’re not zero waste either. It’s taking some time. I’m really not sure we ever will be 100%. I still buy alfalfa sprouts. I haven’t purchased a stainless steel container to take to the Deli counter yet. But, we’re actively at least trying instead of laughing at others in their efforts or throwing in the towel at such a “lost cause.” So if you are one of the people who brings their own bags grocery shopping (or even ask for paper,) or if you bring your own straws or cups or containers or silverware with you while you’re out, if you pop your popcorn on the stovetop, if you buy your tea in recyclable aluminum or steel tins, if you drink soda or sparkling beverages out of glass bottles or aluminum cans, if you are actively TRYING even just a little to do ONE thing: . . I’m not sure I’ve ever been ashamed of where I grew up... # I guess Brucey will have to be fitted for a muzzle the next time we visit grandma... if we ever decide to head back up there together. 🙄 I know the last picture is advocating “Pit Bulls” or “bully breeds” specifically by showing the ATTS data, but all dog breed specific legislation is an unnecessary cruelty. .
