@aureliaeirian
After they had both allowed themselves to bathe in the silence that held their peaceful memories of childhood and family, Aurelia’s question struck him as the taste of a sour apple. For a moment there, it had only been the peaceful, nice thoughts that had risen in his mind; the rare memories he cherished, but that were unable to withstand the pressure of all the nasty things with regard to his family, and his brothers in particular. The bitter expression on his face gave away the upcoming news, and how he felt about it.
"They’re dead," Evan coldly stated. To the outside world, it had always looked like Evan had grown so bitter and carefree about his brothers’ deaths because people always seemed to think the deaths had scarred and traumatised him. But the truth was that Evan could truly not care less about his loss of his brothers; he did not miss their presence. He enjoyed the fact they were no longer here. Now, he was the one and only Heir of the Rosier family, and now he was finally being acknowledged as the man he was, rather than just another Rosier brother, and the fourth and very last in line, no less. Of course, all good-hearted people were too blind to see, and Evan did not mind this the slightest. It allowed him to keep going, and it prevented anyone from as much as bringing up the mere notion of suspecting Evan of the mysterious deaths of the first three Rosier brothers. “They all died.”
Cold splashed Aurelia the moment his face quickly changed and the moment he announced their fate she could feel her face drain of blood. "Oh my," escaped her lips as he swirled into a creature of pain. She had not expected this turn nor his response yet it was as if the temperature in the library descended. Folding her hands she said in her most docile voice she could muster, "I'm so sorry for your loss Evan, I didn't mean to bring back such memories." And she was sorry. The loss of a brother was not foreign to her but to be at the end of three Aurelia could not imagine the pain he must have felt, the memories that are best left faint.
"How-" It was out of her mouth before she could even censor it and Aurelia quickly let go of the question, appalled at her direct rudeness and lack of compassion. Her curiosity got the better of her of course and she held up a hand to him, "Excuse me, I'm so sorry Evan." She shifted in her chair and closed her eyes for a moment.
"Ah, well, I don’t blame you for avoiding people in the morning. The vast majority is annoyingly grumpy during breakfast — including myself, on occasion," Evan admitted with a crooked, confessing smile. He liked Aurelia, for as far as he knew her. He knew their family had always been in touch, but it usually were his oldest two brothers who would tag along with their father to visit the Eirian household, whilst their mother looked after her remaining two sons, of which Evan was the youngest.
It had been a while since Aurelia had visited his home. Aurelia and her family had come over for dinner at the Rosier Manor a few times in the past, but Evan had been too young, and too many things had happened since, for Evan to remember the exact details. Again, he threw Aurelia a smile at her following words; a smile that was far more friendly than the sarcastic one he would usually throw someone who was not included in his regular group of friends. “Yes, I vaguely remember that. That’s been a while, though. I remember one of my brothers had a massive crush on you for a while…”
Aurelia closed her eyes for a brief moment in embarrassment. "Oh that was so long ago!" His brothers were always so exciting when they came over with stories and activities to occupy their time. She was always so alone. Her memory of Rosier Manor was dim, muddied the way childhood does. Evan had been quiet in her recollection, but then again so was she. Aurelia tagged along with the Rosier boys out of convenience. There were hardly any girls nearby.
"So, how are they - your brothers I mean." Something about the subject bothered her but she did not recall hearing about them recently. She grinned and hoped to hear good stories. Evan was someone she liked enough and one whose company did not spawn arguments.
"Ballet." It was out of her mouth quicker than she had meant it to. Just mentioning the word caused a wistful look to appear in her eye. "I like to do ballet."
"Ballet? The dance right?" Aurelia mused for a moment before asking, "Do you still do it-even here in the castle?"
"I rather not. Which is exactly why I’m here, at this ridiculously early hour," Evan replied. Company or not, he did not actually assume he would get his homework finished in the first place, anyway. His mind was far too dull for that so early on a day. He quietly contemplated the consequences of this unfortunate fact whilst watching Aurelia draw something on her parchment, only to have his eyes abruptly snap back up to her face when asked a question. "Right now? I’d definitely still be in bed. After classes, I’d likely be found at the Quidditch field. What about yourself? Or do you usually come here this early anyway?”
Aurelia chuckled at his response and shrugged, "I do come here this early, I just like avoiding everyone at the Great Hall in the mornings and I try to get stuff done but I usually waste some time looking outside the window." It was all true, especially about the avoidance. She learned that being nice to everyone had its perks - except if you were in Slytherin. She had too many a dirty look and a scold. "Its not unlike being home...I actually remember going over to your house I think, before we were at Hogwarts?"
"Okay." She looked at her skeptically but all the same placed the cup back onto the table. Once more she pointed her wand at it, her expression one of immense concentration. After a moment the cup hovered off the table then sat gently back down. Florence looked up at the other girl beaming. "It worked!"
Aurelia smiled, "See? It shouldn't worry at all. At least you're trying - that's what counts." She stood there for a bit and wondered if anyone had seen her act so friendly towards to girl. Odd to think that she worried at all, she was just helping. "So, if not Charms, what else do you enjoy?"
"Where the hell did you find it? Nick if from an unsuspecting first year?"
"Kidding. Let me see your hands…you’ve got to make the cat’s cradle, see—and then I take it and make the next shape. Et cetera, ad infinitum.”
"Oh, it's just something that looked a lot more interesting than homework! Cat's cradle hmm? So it's like a game, yes?"
“life is about becoming a better version of yourself.”

Marlene’s eyes flicked over the smaller girl, crossing her arms. Something about the circumstances seemed off, but there was no telling what, so she nodded her head and slowly stepped into the classroom, praying she wasn’t making a mistake. “Yeah, I want it.”
Once she crossed the door Aurelia pulled out her wand and a small parcel from her pocket. Quickly transfiguring it the package grew into a large crate of Firewhiskey. "I want 10%." She said firmly.
"Forgive the comparison, but, you look like a fascinated…puppy."
"…you need two for Cat’s Cradle, love."
"C-could you help me? I just found it in the library."
