Marlene was born during a storm. As her mother lay in her bed in a summer home the McKinnon family owned near the coast, covered by cotton sheets and attended by two women the rain whipped at the windows and strikes of lightning lit up the room with moments, solitary moments of perfect clarity in which it’s occupants could see every minute detail of their surroundings. One of the midwives murmured to the other about how lovely it would be is the storm were to suddenly cease when the child arrive, but when the girl was born the storm reached hurricane status.
Marlene had no hope of being the most intelligent in the family her older brother was something of a genius, having received straight O’s at Hogwarts, nor could she be the nicest as her junior brother was sweeter than a bloody chocolate frog. Having no artistic ability beyond a pretty voice and tolerable guitar playing as she grew older the flaxen haired girl settled into the role of a wild child, turning in the lovely dresses and dolls her mother would select for ripped jeans and muddy hands. Her transition into delinquencywas aided by the next door neighbors son, James Potter, who was anything but a dream child.
The moment Marlene arrived at Hogwarts she make herself known and has ever sense. Every inch a Gryffindor Marlene is remarkably loyal not to mention more than a little reckless. She is the girl everyone knows in the hall, and that how she wants it. With a legs a mile or two long, a slim waist, generous hips and a crooked grin sharpened to break hearts anyone attracted to girls has probably wondered what it would take to get her into bed, though (despite the rumors she hooking up left and right) not all that many know the reality of sleeping with the pale haired hurricane of a girl. Marlene’s sharp wit, flirtatious attitude, and penchant for a good party all contribute to her popularity, though being good mates with the Marauders doesn’t exactly hurt.
In Marlene’s second year Eliza Marcus McKinnon passed away. Up until this point Marlene’s life had been blessed in every manner, she was accustomed to being privileged, and this was her first real taste of heartbreak. She was quiet about her grief, as would become a pattern for her. Marlene would do anything for attention, but when it came to the deeper pains they were kept locked away. After a year her began to drink, and over time the habit increased. Marlene quickly learned her father was an angry drunk. At first it was just yelling and cruel words but eventually he added his fists into the mix. She did her best to protect Miller, her younger brother from their father, and to this day he doesn’t know that Marcus has a tendency to hit his big sister.
No matter how she tried to ignore the way her father’s cruelty effected her she couldn’t. Logically she knew that the way she carried the weight of it in silence never breathing a word of it, and for weeks later using spells to hide the bruises was bad for her, it would destroy her eventually, but she couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone. Her siblings were in such pain over the loss of her mother. Marlene couldn’t confide in James as he might tell Sirius, and though the shaggy haired boy was the one person she knew could ease the pain that lived within her she couldn’t bare the idea of him knowing, and even if he found out it would hardly matter. Sirius didn’t love her, not anymore. Lily would keep her secret but every time Marlene tried to open her lips to confide in her best friend the words caught in her throat, and eventually she stopped trying.
