"YOU CAN SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTH."
"SORRY, WHAT'S THAT? DID I HIT A NERVE?"
How much poke could a slowpoke poke if a slowpoke could poke poke.
A slowpoke would poke as much as it could if a slowpoke could poke slow.
This doesn't work with slowpoke Don't talk to me
There's a new #1 Red fan hanging around, so I'm feeling pretty threatened right now.
What's your favourite memory of your childhood?
"My childhood...?" He has to think hard about this one. Gold's about to mention his meeting with Lugia before he recalls what happened at Dragon's Den. That was an experience-- he grins to himself as he recalls it.
"At Dragon's Den. When me and Silver fought together to go up against Clair and Lance. That's my favorite memory so far. It might seem sort of...lame, considering the other stuff I've done. But it's stuck with me for five years, and I treasure it. I think that was the first time I thought of Silver as a friend."
"Why are you such a nerd."
Why are you such a dweeb.
HEY GURL CAN I GETCHOR NUMBER???
"Well Gold, itâs nice to meet you. Fireâs eyes widened when he heard the familiar name. "WaitâŠRed? You want to battle Red?" thousands of questions and memories ran through Fireâs head as he struggled with his words again. "D-do you know him? When was the last time you saw him, and where was it? Have you even met him?" Fire took a step back and stopped talking to catch his breath.
He wasnât sure what was creepier, accusing somebody he just met of being âshadyâ, or asking countless questions about Red to him. âIâm sorry for all the questions. Itâs just thatâŠIâm Redâs biggest fan,â Fire gave a nervous laugh as he quickly tried to change the subject âand Iâve always wanted to meet him. Anyway, do you think challenging Red is a good idea? Red is the strongest trainer in all of Kanto. Iâd even argue that heâs the strongest trainer in the world. No offence, but itâs gonna take more than battling a few caterpie to beat him.â
"Well, I don't really know him," It's sort of hard to get to know someone who never leaves the peak of a damn mountain, but he keeps that comment to himself. "not personally, at least. Sorry to burst your bubble."
"Like I said--" Gold holds a hand out to Fire, as if to shush him. "There's nothing left for me to do in Johto. Like, nothing at all. Nada. Zilch." Which is true. He hasn't exactly completed his pokĂ©dex, since there's some evolutions he just can't get (or can't find the motivation to train a pokĂ©mon into evolving just to fill some pages for some old man) but that's not something he'd invest too much time in to begin with.Â
"Uh, yeah. 'Course I'm not gonna get anywhere if I'm fighting caterpie. I'm targeting metapods, specificially." A soft snort escapes him. "I train my lower level pokémon here. Don't get me wrong, I have strong ones, too." He hesitates after that, and scuffs at the grass with the tip of his shoe. "I sorta came out here looking for a pikachu, on top of that. But they're fast! I didn't think it'd be this hard to catch one."
Haunted Woods || Gold & Morty
His eyes looked at Gold briefly. He was still young and Morty was asking him to help with very dark stuff and he didnât know if he wanted the Champion to be there as a fighting partner or for moral support. The idea of death was present and he was going to keep his promise of protecting Gold, but he couldnât say the same thing about himself.
ââI heard Ho-Oh was seen in Johto a couple of times alreadyâ he said to make the atmosphere less dense. ââAnd fishermen said they had seen the shadow of Lugia in the frontier with Kanto. I bet this will be a good year for Johtoâ Morty commented with a soft laugh. ââDid you have the opportunity to ride on Lugia or Ho-Oh in your journey?â he asked curiously.
ââI have a couple of Pokemon with Dark Pulse and my ghost-type will be enough to neutralize the phsychic-type⊠I hopeâ he said, keeping a smile.
"..." He tilts his head downwards, "Good year? It's already halfway through; it's been the same any any other year, up until now." And this whole thing can hardly be considered 'good'. He wishes he could accept Morty's attempts to lighten the atmosphere, but it's no good. Life's been awfully boring since his journey in Johto came to an abrupt halt. He can't expect to venture to other regions just yet, with the challenge on Mt. Silver still looming before him.
"But...maybe next year will be better." He lets the quiet linger for a moment longer after Morty asks him about his experiences with the legendary beasts. Pocketing his hands, he draws in a breath to signal he's ready to talk again. "Lugia, but I didn't ride them-- it, I don't know. Seemed weird to straddle the guardian of the seas and then expect them to carry me around. Not my style, yeah?" Gold laughs a little, though it's dull and humorless. He's still worried.
"You should be able to handle this. Your pokémon are strong-- I'll back you up if you need it!" He's never been one to seek battles with psychic-type trainers, so he's left feeling a little useless in this situation, not entirely sure what to expect.
"No," Fire contradicted, "Shady is staring at a poster in the Celadon Game Corner for no reason" Fire knew the other boy wouldnât get what he was referencing, but he still felt the need to say it. Fire did seem a little ashamed that he got lost in such a simple place, but heâs been around Kanto more times than he could count. He has the right to get a little lost at least once. Fire then tried to change the subject.
"If youâre from Johto, why are you training in Kanto? Wouldnât you be more suited to places like your route 30, or the Ilex Forest?" Fire asked innocently, only after he finished did he realize his question seem like he was showing off his knowledge of basic Johto geography. "Or, are you here because you just want to take in the beautiful scenery of my home region?" Fire paused listening to his regional pride/regional rudeness. He then extended a hand to the younger boy. "My nameâs Fire. Iâm sorry for calling you shady. Whatâs your name?"
"No," Gold scoffs, "I'm training in Kanto because there's nothing really left for me to do in Johto. I'm planning on taking on Red." He's much more casual now, leaning back on his heels and pocketing his hands.
"No hard feelings!" He reassures the older boy, unpocketing a hand to grip at the one offered, shaking firmly. "You can call me Gold! S'what everyone else calls me."
Lost & Found [Ethan&Proton]
Crobat is moving before Protonâs order has fully formed, marking the threat, stretching his wings. Â Heâs been in tough situations before and has gone down fighting for his trainer many times. Â The Feraligatr doesnât scare him, and heâs puzzled as to why it scares Proton. Â The Executive is known for never being cowed, facing threats with a no holds barred recklessness that has lead to as many painful losses as wins. Â Still, the bat pokemon doesnât hesitate and keens loudly, the Confuse Ray shooting towards the scaled pokemon and bouncing around its large head. Â Direct hit.
Proton growls at Goldâs gabbing hands, but lets the younger trainer tug him farther away from the hulking Feraligatr. Â Theyâre not far enough away, not even a bit, when Gold orders his Typhlosion to leap into the fray and Proton vaguely notes that the kid had nicknamed him Bakphu- strange name.
"No- wait!" Â Proton gasps, because now he realizes why Gold was tugging at him, yelling in his ear. Â He can feel Bakphuâs fireblast burning bright on his face- even through his clothes, Proton swears its like a thousand degrees and heâs forced to look away.
The blast of flame strikes the Feraligatr full in the face, and he stumbles back, confused and burnt, though hardly scathed by the flames- his type advantage protecting him from the worst of it. Â If anything the blast just annoyed him, because soon heâs rearing up and roaring, a great geyser of water blasting out of his mouth towards Bakphu, Proton and Gold. Â A torrent, and Proton is sure that Bakphuâs fire will go out, he feels fear in his chest like a breathless twisting. Â Heâs afraid for Goldâs Typhlosion, doesnât want to see him hurt. Â Because in so many ways Proton is blaming himself for this- because this Feraligatr is Myloâs ghost come to haunt him, tear into him.
Rip his soul apart.
Bakphu rears up on his hind legs, though he's faster on all fours. The fire beast will protect his trainer with his body if his attacks turn out ineffective. Gold's plan had backfired, but Bakphu can't care about that. Not yet, not right now. He understands what his trainer was aiming for. To draw attention away from himself and Proton long enough for them to slip away to safety, or at least from the middle of the fray.
It hurts, and his flame goes out like a candle starved of oxygen. Bakphu can hear Gold yelling out behind him, far too close. The typhlosion feels the boy's hands press to the wet fur on his back -- grabbing and pulling, trying to bring his best friend out of this conflict. Bakphu is still conscious, determined to fight and to protect, while Gold is tugging and pulling and begging, apologies mixed in his desperate sentences. The well being of his pokémon relied on him, and because he'd acted without thinking it through, or coming up with something else to do if it backfired, his first pokémon can barely stand. They've been in this situation before, but not like this. Gold's never before feared for his pokémon's life. There's-- there's something seriously wrong with this feraligatr.
"Bakphu! Draw back and use rest," it's a repeated command, and Gold cries out when the typhlosion's dead weight is suddenly atop him, the both of them knocked back to the ground where they'd been originally. If worry wasn't eating Gold alive, gnawing on his bones and clawing at his skin, there'd be a fire inside him. The kind of fury he'd reserved for battles like this.
"Proton-- Proton! Do you have anything?" Gold shuffles back, doesn't care that the hands he's got on Bakphu's shoulder blades are burning with the heat that'll eventually aid in the ignition of the beasts fire once more. There's more pressing matters, and Gold's voice is strained. "Berries, medicine! Anything! Please tell me you have something. I need something! This is my fault. I shouldn't have-- I shouldn't have made him. I didn't think it'd be this strong."Â
Haunted Woods || Gold & Morty
ââGoodâ he said simply and started walking again. He was tense and he didnât doubt that at this point, Gold could notice that as well. Gengar stayed close, covering the back of both of them.
ââWitchesâ he repeated ââthere are forces beyond Pokemon and humanity, forces that donât belong to this realm, or Giratinaâs or Arceusâ. Darkness is far more than a Pokemon type or an absence of light. Still, these witches will be using ghost-type and psychic-type to open the portalsâ Morty explained. As a psychic he could feel othersâ emotions, he was emphatic and this wasnât the exception. He knew the champion was scared and that he was doubting, but was there something he really could do to help it? ââYou fought against the Team Rocket, I wouldnât be asking you to help me if I didnât know you could do it, Goldâ
Morty soothes his nerves with his exceptionally calm exterior and comforting words. Gold is thankful, but he can't muster up the words to voice his gratitude. They get stuck in his throat, because even though Morty is here, he's still scared.
Scared.
What a terrible thought. It's not okay for the champion to be scared. He shouldn't fear anything at this point, but he does, and it's crippling. Wilting forward, unable to keep himself up straight under the weight of this situation. He feels okay, he tells himself -- lies to himself, tries to convince himself -- because maybe, he'll believe it.
"...We should use dark types." Obviously; Morty knows that, he knows Morty knows. But it feels better, now; now that he's spat something out. "I-- I don't have a dark type, but crobat can do it."
Reconnaissance || Dark & Gold
Dark didnât respond, the words sinking slowly into his mind. As if Team Rocket isnât causing trouble themselves. Was that the purpose of Team Rocket? All Ghetsis had told him before sending him off to Kanto was that they were an underground organisation â but not that they were causing trouble. Did that make them⊠criminals?
Still, he supposed it didnât matter. His only job here was to find out more about them and their operations, and that was exactly what he was doing.
The mention of the Elite Four nearly made Dark freeze. It was like a memory trying to push its way through the barriers of his mind was pounding in his skull, desperate to be heard. Why? âThe Elite FourâŠâ he mumbled, gaze fixed on the floor and the outline of his feet. â⊠They are different people in Johto, I believe, to the ones where I am from.â A cloud of sadness began to envelop his mind, though he had no clue why, and he slumped ever so slightly.
But then it was gone, ripped away and leaving the Shadow feeling rather bitter. âI have no need for a map,â he said tautly. âAnd if you could, try to keep your voice down. You are very loud.â It came out like a snap, and it was almost startling. He hadnât known his voice was capable of sounding so stern.
When light started to filter into the tunnel Dark slowed, raising an arm to halt the boy beside him. âWaitâŠâ he muttered, involutarily beginning to take on a loose crouching position, âI can⊠I can hear something.â
Gold's brow creases in frustration when Dark snaps at him. He wants to open his mouth, dish out something horrible to send straight back at him. Gold knows he can be horrible. It bothers him, and he turns his face away, opting to keep his mouth shut, though his throat tightens to suffocate the comments burning in him.
He stays like that -- silent, brooding -- up until Dark stops them from going any further. He lets out an irritated comment, something along the lines of "what now" before following the other into a crouch.
"What? What is it?" Regretting his choice to follow this guy already. He'd be in there by now, he's positive. Why is Dark drawing these things out? Is it necessary to be so cautious while infiltrating an enemy base? Usually, yes. But this is Team Rocket. While they may be sinister, the grunts aren't anything to worry about. What they lack in intelligence, they make up for in violence. It's easily taken care of. The younger has done it many times before, and he'll do it many times more.
Fire let out a long sigh when he saw an Aipom and a boy walk out of the woods, not some weird gaint pokemon monster.
"Hey little guy." Fire said quietly to the monkey climbing on him. Heâd seen Aipoms before, but never so up close. He gave the Pokemon a scratch on the head before it returned to its trainer. Now comes the hard part. While Fire was great as interacting with Pokemon of all shapes and sizes, the real problem for Fire was talking to people. He never really knew what to say or how to act, so he just ended up saying very little all together.
"I-Iâm not shady." Fire managed to stutter out while stuffing his map into his pocket, hoping Gold didnât see it. "I know what shady looks like, and Iâm not shady. Iâm just havering a look around the forestâŠand I may be a little lost." Fire was embarrassed by the fact that he was lost. He had travelled the world, just him and his Pokemon, for years and yet a tiny forest filled with bugs had got the better of him. "B-but what are you doing here?" Fire asked trying to quickly change the subject. "Maybe youâre the shady one?"
"Yeah? Well, I know what shady looks like, too," he drawls out, folding his arms over his chest. "And shady is usually hiding out in an isolated part of a forest." Gold sounds skeptical, keeping his distance. He looks the other boy up and down in silence-- judgmental stare hard and unrelenting.
"...Ha!" His laughter is more along the lines of a snort that he tries to silence with his hand. "You're lost--?" The Johto native would've tormented Fire over this if it weren't for the other boy accusing him of being the shady one. It pulls the look of amusement straight from his features. "Oi, oi. I'm from Johto. I travel to and from Kanto occasionally. I'm training."
