A Cupcake Date // Kendall and Auriel
“Don’t want to? Are you kidding me? That sounds amazing!” The more Kendall thought about it, the more she liked Auriel’s idea. She had always loved the beach, and went biking with her family all the time. Now she would get to combine two things she loved, and do it with one of her closest friends. “Can we go back to dorm and change first? I’m not really dressed for biking” Kendall said, looking down at her clothes. She was wearing one of her favorite tops, and a pair of jean shorts. Not really beach-biking attire. She got up, and took the box to the garbage can, tossing it in. “Let’s go!” She said, and they headed out to the waiting car. After telling the driver to head back to the dorm, she sat in her seat, planning what to put on. She decided on a pair of her dance leggings, and a t-shirt. She couldn’t wait to get back.
Once back to the dorm, she ran up to her room, screaming behind her that she would meet Auriel back at the lobby. After barging into her room, she grabbed her capri pants with the purple and blue waste-band. She pulled her blouse over her head, and replaced it with a purple tee. She un-braided her hair and put it up into a bun, while pulling on her sneakers. She thought she looked pretty cute, for going biking on the beach. She ran back to the lobby, stopping by one of the vending machined to buy a fruit punch gatorade. Her mother had always told her to make sure to stay hydrated. Continuing on the familiar walk downstairs, she thought about how much she had improved just by being here. She thought that being around all these great dancers was making her a better dancer too.
Once in the large lobby, she spotted Auriel quickly. Heading over, she grinned. “Now I’m ready, let’s go” she said, and the went out to the driver, who had kindly waited for them. They hopped into the car, and rode for the 1/2 hour, while the radio played the recent hits. Kendall bounced in her seat, excited to be going out. She hadn’t been on any really big outings yet, so this was exciting. Once at the beach, they got out of the car. “OK Auriel, where do we go to rent our bikes?” She followed Auriel, with a skip in her step, excited to get started.
Auriel took her time getting back to her room. There was a lot on Auriel's mind. It was stressful. Auriel still hadn't told Nina about what happened with John the night before. And she wasn't really planning on telling her any time soon. The truth would come out, eventually. Auriel didn't know when, and she didn't know how, but it would. One way or another. Part of that, Auriel feared. Part of it, she was looking forward to. Auriel was a great secret keeper, but John had cheated on Nina. That's not something you can keep from a person. Especially your best friend. Or in John's case, your girlfriend. Auriel shook her head and looked up from her feet. That day wasn't to be focused on John and how adorable his eyes were and his little grin, no matter how much Auriel may have enjoyed thinking about it. That day was about Auriel and Kendall. No one else but the two of them.
Aurie reached her room and opened the door. She slipped into a bathing suit and put a white cover up dress over top. Auriel pulled her hair from the bun and ran a comb through it a few times, just to get the knots out, and then slid in a head band that she got when she played soccer those many, many years ago. Auriel grabbed her small backpack and placed a few things inside. Tampons, her wallet, and her phone and keys. Auriel padded down the hall until she reached a vending machines. Auriel was going to start out with water and transition into Gatorade a little bit later on. But water was good for now. She slipped the bottle into her back pack and walked into the lobby.
Auriel waited for a while. She walked around and looked at pictures of So You Think You Can Dance alumni. Auriel shifted her wait from one foot to another as she caught a glimpse of someone new. Brandon Chang or something like that. Auriel had beat him at a competition before. He was a scrawny boy, fifteen years old. Auriel looked down to her feet and was reminded of Nick. Nick was the only boy Auriel would ever date-down to. Typically, Auriel liked older boys. Brandon Pent. John Michael. Michael from middle school. Auriel hadn't ever had many boyfriends. Actually, John had been her first kiss just two nights before.
Auriel saw Kendall padding towards her. Auriel smiled and reached her hand out for Kendall's. The car ride as slow. Auriel didn't think about anything other than what to say to Nina. How to say it to Nina. When and where. Auriel couldn't fly back home just to say a sentence to Nina, and then come back. She would have to do it over the phone or on Skype. Or maybe she'd make John do it. Would it be better to hear it from John, Nina's boyfriend? Or would it be better to hear it from Auriel, Nina's best friend? The struggle is real.... Auriel thought. The car pulled to a stop, and the girls jumped out.
"I don't know, K." Auriel said. "We'll figure it out." Auriel said as she approached a map. The map was like a blue print of that stretch of land. Like ones you see at the mall. Auriel spotted a bike rental not too far away from where the girls were. They started walking, hand in hand, and for a moment, everything seemed just right. For a moment, John and Nina didn't exist. It was Auriel and her little sister.
Boys Have Cooties || Auriel and Addy
Addison looked down feeling a tingling sensation creep up through her light colored cheeks. She knew the feeling, and she knew exactly what was happening. Normally when she felt that same feeling, it meant that her face was turning a reddish pink tint, something that happened normally when she blushed, was nervous, angry, or embarrassed. In this case, she was a mixture of embarrassment, anger, and nervousness. She was embarrassed by the fact that Auriel had overheard her and Zack’s fight a a week or two ago that Addison had tried to push out of her mind. The anger was because right after the fight, Zack had packed his things and left. He just left, without any warning, without any explanation. One night he was there and the net he was gone.
Biting her lip, she tried to breath steadily to calm herself down so that the tint in her cheeks would go away. Looking back up she spoke softly saying “Well, he basically told me that he liked me, kissed me, and then left me.” She said with a shrug trying not to show her emotions to Auriel. Addison was actually kind of scared that Auriel didn’t like her. So everything she said or did around Auriel, she tried to plan out and think hard about so that she wouldn’t do anything to make her dislike her. Tilting her head, she muttered quietly “What happened with you and Madison?” She asked curiously, Addison had at first been very open to being friends with Madison, but lately Addison started to feel more and more disliking of feelings towards her. “I don’t really like her that much…” Addison said barely loud enough for anyone to hear, she wasn’t a mean person, or one to gossip, she just really wasn’t fond of her.
Auriel giggled in reply, "That makes two of us then." Auriel wanted to like Madison. There weren't many teenagers around, so they needed to stick together. Before Auriel left, her mother said that she needed to at least try to talk to new people. Auriel was doing an okay job of that. The only new people she really talked to were Brooklynn and Addison, but this was the first time Auriel had really, truly spoken face-to-face with Addison. And she was sweet. She was really sweet. Auriel knew why everyone liked her so much.
Lately, Auriel had been feeling more amd more ignored. More and more left out. More and more behind. When John got there, she spent every waking moment with him. Well, nearly every moment. She did have to sleep and shower and she did have rehearsals and the show and costume fittings and all that jazz. John made her feel good. Made her feel important. But after John left, Auriel realized how alone she really was. Nobody understood her quite like Katherine and Nina and Olivia and Payton did back home. Auriel tried not to focus on the space between her and the other kids but how close they were.
Auriel was an optimist. She saw the cup as half full rather than half empty. She tried to see the good in people, but sometimes she only saw the bad. Like Madison. Auriel only saw what she could do to hurt Nick. She only saw the conflicts she had with her. Auriel tried to see what was good. A loving, talented girl. But it was hard seeing the good in people when you don't exactly like that person. Madison, being that person. Auriel shrugged a bit at Addison's question. "It was just... I guess.. I guess I was little jealous of her. Her and Nick seemed to be spending so much time together and that's how we used to be." Auriel paused for a moment and then said, "Why don't you like her?"

Sometimes I think that the girls from my studio are more annoying than you are.
@aurweltyy: saying goodbye was the hardest thing I've done in a while.
Why is a six year old better than me?
My thoughts exactly.
