eye of the storm | victoria & aurora
Victoria took one look at the small kitten in Auroraâs arms and her heart melted. It was such a precious, small thing and to know it was out on its own for who knows how long, broke her heart. âSheâs so little.â Victoria cooed, looking up at Aurora before following her gaze towards the sky. It was getting increasingly darker and a sick feeling settled in Victoriaâs stomach. This storm would be anything but minor. Looking at the gray sky, the half-breed wished she had paid more attention to the news. Quite frankly she had no idea how big they had predicted this storm to be in the first place. All she knew was with each minute Victoria and Aurora stood outside, their lives dangled on the line.
Victoria ripped her eyes away from the sky and looked at Aurora. She bit her lip, unsure. âItâs in the Snow Estates,â A crack of thunder interrupted her mid speech. Victoria gave a quick glance towards the sky before staring at the Fury, worry in her eyes. âBut, weâll have to run like hell if we want to make it.â Victoria grabbed Auroraâs arm as the rain began to fall, pulling her away from Piggly Wiggly and towards her house. She shook her head. âNo. I searched for hours but I didnât find anything.â The rain become to fall with increasing speed and power, the winds picking up. âFuck.â She whispered, picking up the pace. Her hand was still on Aurora, afraid to lose her and the kitten she held. âDo you know a short cut?â
Aurora hated that there were so many feral cats and dogs. There were always an abundance during this time of year. She wished she had room for all of them. Aurora wrapped her arms around the kitten gently, shielding it from the rain that was starting to fall. "It's so annoying that people allow their cats and dogs to run away. We shouldn't have so many feral animals," Aurora frowned as she said. If one person in the town was to understand, it would be Victoria. The other girl was constantly trying to find strays. But Aurora was more worried about the storm. She couldn't help it. They were still in the middle of town with a storm about to be raging. Aurora didn't have time to discuss the annoyance of stupid people who mistreated animals. Besides it would only make her angry. With each passing second, they were more and more likely to die.
Aurora tried to swallow, but her mouth was suddenly dry. "I'm at the school. That's closer, I think," Aurora watched as lightning crackled through the sky. It was a good thing her rain boots were made out doing a good job of keeping her emotions in check. "We can run to the school faster," she declared. "I only came for milk, but I figured I'd find something on the way," Aurora admitted, beginning to walk-- or run-- towards the direction of the school. "The only short cut I know will only take a few seconds off our route, but that's better than nothing."
The fury headed in the direction of the school. She kept the kitten from getting as wet as possible. She struggled to keep herself from freaking out. Aurora wondered if Naomi was okay and she made a mental note to check on her best friend the second she got back to safety. Aurora walked for a few minutes, and then the rain started to pour down. "I think this calls for an oh shit," she shook her head, trying to run under any bit of shelter she could find. The girl frowned at Victoria. "We don't have much further now. You can see BHU from here."
