We all know Viivi Vainikka is a gifted goal scorer, but Minnesota Frost fans see some of her speed and forechecking skills on display during the 2025 European Hockey Tour on Nuutinen’s goal
Throwback to Sirens draft pick Elisa Holopainen’s goal against Team USA in the 2024 World Championships!

Elisa Holopainen’s hat trick for Frölunda in the SDHL semifinals
There may be an adjustment for Holopainen but she is a truly special player and you could tell that from the time she was 15 that she can just do things in the offensive zone that very few can, just always seems to be three moves ahead of everyone else. and I really love the idea of her playing with obrien. New York is building a very creative, fast team
TWO FINNS IN THE FIRST ROUND

I think it’s harder for Sdhl forwards to transition to the PWHL than defenders because of the adjustment to time / space on the decision making you have to do to be impactful offensively but I do think Nieminen (assuming she declares which seems likely but isn’t official I don’t think) and vainikka are two of the more PWHL ready forwards to come out of the Sdhl. Partially due to their ages (26 for Nieminen and 24 for Vainikka) and partially play style. Nieminen has that “shot good enough to score from anywhere” faster and is just generally strong as all hell and I think suited to handle the physical play, and Vainikka is good enough off puck that even if the scoring takes time to come she’ll be productive and comfortable
Karoliina Rantamäki won her ✨twelfth✨ Finnish Championship in the 2026 Auroraliiga playoffs with Kiekko-Espoo. The 48 year old now has sole possession of second on the list of most championship victories won by a single player in league history.
Kiekko-Espoo players Aliisa Toivonen, Reetta Valkjärvi, and Tinja Haukijärvi celebrating their Finnish Championship victory in the Auroraliiga playoffs. Toivonen's shirt honors Kiekko-Espoo head coach Sami Haapanen, who is stepping down after thirteen seasons behind the bench and seven championship victories
