“The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”

This is Derision levels of hypocrisy - being an abuse victim is no excuse for bullying, but stalking and obsessiveness are excused by trauma; refusing to let go and move one from your old enemies is petty and a sign of a weak, angry person, but the shows creator can dedicate at least one episode per shows season, to shit on his least favourite character and target a fanbase surrounding her FOR YEARS after her character assassination in canon

I liked Sabrina confronting her abuser and moving on, but it had to be ruined by Marinettes edgy aah laughter and corny zingers in response - you’re NOT taugh, lil bro😭✌️

You could physically see the writing quality taking a deep for this particular episode, which happens every time Thomas pushes his own agenda no matter what

This is JUST a season 5 Chloe ark rehash - this episode serves NO PURPOSE outside those few Lila and Noe involving scenes

I know these two things seem contradictory, but there’s nothing a conservative man loves more than to tear off an angel’s wings. There are plenty of women that would willingly choose the obedient SAHM lifestyle, but these kinds of men always seem to go for the opposite. Why? Because it’s a power play. There’s no need to break a horse that’s already broken, and that would do nothing to validate that man, his ego, and his place in a world he sees as designed for him.

Another factor is that these men avoid dating conservative women who already want the lives they want them to have because those women's standards are too high. Specifically, such women expect to be the obedient stay at home mum, but they also expect their men to be the masculine ideal from the other half of the equation -- they tend to look down on their men if they cry, they expect them to be able to financially provide for the household, they want them to uphold their end of the bargain. You see this again and again in groups of conservative men who go out of their way to date liberal women; there is a power play, to tame someone untamed and bring her into line with his expectations, but there's also her lack of expectations of him. They want a woman who will do all the household and keep the home but ALSO will not reject him for not being able to afford to finance the family alone. They want a woman who'll respect and obey him but ALSO be fun and relaxed and let him show whatever emotions he wants. They want the Perfect Trad Wife who won't expect him to be the Perfect Trad Husband.

You see the same thing in conservatives who complain that all their leftie friends are abandoning them, but who won't just hang out with right wing friends instead. They don't want to hang out with other righties because a group of righties quickly becomes judgy and hateful and socially competitive, and is only fun to hang out with when they want to vent, whereas their leftie friends were more relaxed and fun. They want license to be unpleasant and expect unreasonable things of others, but want the people around them to be pleasant and not expect unreasonable things of them.

Fic Announcement!

Hey all! Long time no see! (no, I’m not dead).

So, I have a project that I’ve been debating for some time, both for myself and all of you. Given how much fic I’ve written over the years (millions and millions of words), I’ve always wanted to do final edits of some of my works and print them so I can put them on my shelves. Naturally, I thought, I might not be the only one who’d appreciate this! I still get so many messages about so many fics and I thought maybe there’d be an audience who’d like to share in this experience.

So far, the list of fics I want to put through final edits and into printed form are as follows:

If you know the fic, you probably know the fandom. Obviously, some fun stuff would come along with this project, like book covers, maybe prints or bookmarks, etc, likely via patreon wherein if you pay more you get extra stuff, if I have extra stuff to give. I haven’t REALLY thought through all the details yet, as I’m just trying to get a feel for whether or not anyone is actually interested in this before I commit to commissioning any art, etc.

I also don’t have a preference as to where I start, so there will probably be a poll wherein all of you vote for which book goes first (Sk8 and Miraculous, you’ll have to fight it out). I’d also like to add that I DO want to finish some of the WIPs that so many of you have been waiting on, so that is also in my future plans (five year plan? Ten year plan? It takes time to write things and I have a full time job, okay?!). The following projects are ones I would like to finish at some point in my life:

BUT this does come with the caveat that I will ultimately be prioritizing my original work, Dragon Seer, first. Probably once I’ve finished book 2 and am in the editing period, I’ll be able to work on one of the above projects. I just knew that as soon as I brought up the finished works, some of you would be asking about the unfinished ones, lol.

In any case, just trying to get a feel for how interested in this project you all would be. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know (or just like the post I guess), and if it seems like there’s enough interest, I’ll start hashing out more details.

Think of it as an… S. Kay Lanphear zine experience, or something similar.
