There’s something to be said about how Ava had clearly kissed Beatrice’s cheek multiple times while in Switzerland and how she doesn’t do that a single time after they leave. Something about how Ava understands Beatrice’s boundaries – understands them enough to know when she can push them and when she shouldn’t. Something about the gentleness with which Ava treats Beatrice.

i was just thinking about how significant it is for ava to say that she was willing to sacrifice herself so that bea could live her life. she spent nearly the entirety of the first season running away because she wanted to live her own life. during the beach scene she's literally brought to tears at her newfound freedom. she had so much anger towards the nuns at the time for making her feel like she wasn't entitled to that freedom. in the second season, ava's outburst during their argument after being compromised showed that maybe a part of her still resented the halo for the responsibilities it came with. the responsibilities that bea has prepared for her whole life. ava recognizes that beatrice has had to carry this weight for much longer. the most devastating thing about what ava went through at the orphanage was literally that she could not walk. she used the halo to give to beatrice what the halo gave to her. a chance to walk away. and beatrice did.
