Dreamwalking & Dreamscapes

So!! Not done swap!Connie's ref yet BUT I think this power of hers deserves a post of its own :))

Much like canon!Steven, Connie can enter others' minds —or even her own!— while asleep. However, they don’t appear as regular dreams like in canon, instead as a sort of mindscape or 'Dreamscape' that reflects who that person is in some way. The dreamscapes are always connected to a body of water in some way because of Connie's specific powers, and the water will reflect the person's feelings/memories/general state of mind.

Connie's own dreamscape looks a lot like a salt flat at nighttime, with a starry sky that's reflected in the shallow water below. The stars in the water, when touched, will show different memories. When upset (i.e., in the Future timeline), the dreamscape will become foggy and overcast, hiding the stars above although they will still appear in the reflections, and the water rises.

Steven's dreamscape is one she accidentally visits pretty often, and it looks like a bunch of ancient temple ruins sticking out of the water, which has tides like a regular beach, with small sandy islands that have gathered around the buildings. Lapis' dreamscape is stormy, a rough ocean with the occasional island of black rock sticking up out of it. The storm will worsen or lessen depending on her mood that week, but it will never go away completely.

When in a fusion, Connie can sometimes see the fusion’s Dreamscape! Stevonnie’s specifically is a mix of Connie’s starry night sky combined with Steven’s buildings and beaches. They can talk to each other in there, on occasion (think like in Mindful Education).

And yes, much like canon!Steven’s dreamwalking abilities she can possess people through the dreamscapes, or even accidentally swap their minds… ;)

^I'm still trying to pin down exactly what Bismuth's and Peridot's dreamscapes would look like, but in general Bismuth's would probably be a volcanic beach with lava spills, and Peri's would be somewhat overgrown and geometric, a blend of her love of tech and plants! I don't think their 'scapes would be visited as often cause I don't think they'd actually sleep that often, lol

And cause I probably haven't clarified it yet; Lapis, Bismuth, and Peridot are the 'Crystal Gems' in this AU, and Connie's guardians!

This came to me in a dream and as someone obsessed w/ both Percy Jackson and SU I had to draw it immediately lol

I honestly got way too into the idea and now I'm picturing the diamonds as like,, the protogeni/primordial gods, with Pink D = Gaia, Yellow = Aether/Tartarus, Blue = Thalassa/Nyx, and White = Ouranus, the ruler. Which, yeah, would make Steven insanely op for a demigod, but like. That's already canon to SU:F so it fits pretty well, lmao

Everyone and their moms has a "bad end" steven universe AU so i thought y'know what? I want in on the action xD

Canon diverges from the scene in White's head in CYM (I haven't thought too much about this part of the plot yet bear with me) and Steven ends up splitting into his 2 halves semi-permanently.

So far I've just been doodling to get a sense of their designs for the AU, and letting more ideas come to me as I draw them. I've also taken to calling them Cas and Lux based off of this cool fic by hueue; https://archiveofourown.org/works/23264827/chapters/55712464

Notes-

Pale as fawk because of constant regeneration means when he's flustered everything is red haha

Body naturally runs cold, very cold hands etc

Big Doe eyes. Seem brown but in photos/sunlight they're pink with diamond pupils

Permanent eyebags and puffy look bcuz dude does cry a lot

Got Greg's broad shoulders and Rose's facial features and hair

Teenie horns hidden in his hair from corruption he's completely unaware of

if u read these here's a cookie 🍪 I wanna do this with Connie too lol
