I don't know if this happens if you play Claire A and Leon B, but currently in my playthrough, going with Leon A and Claire B and I feel like I can tank everything with her? Meanwhile while I was playing with Leon I felt I had to be more cautious, more slow (control and playthrough wise), but with Claire i feel I can be more aggressive.
Which is so interesting in the meta sense? Because Leon has a full vest armor given by Marvin, he doesn't need much of the blue herbs, he is technically more trained for this stuff but it's with Claire that I feel more empowered? She doesn't have any armor, just a jacket and willpower and i just go "ok, babygirl, take this blue/red herb convo and we can do anything" and succeed?? It's really nice but im laughing at the irony of it
Gosh, I forgot how much of a piece of shit Irons was
Claire was fucking resourceful getting out of the police handcuff i forgot about all that, that's my girl
Leon was sleeping at this point just with a bullet hole complaining while Claire is surviving the horrors after falling from an elevator and she is kicking??? Like nothing?
Mind you, she is a fucking civilian
Do you recognize this TV theme song? #714
I know this and can name the series
I know this but can't name the series
I might know this
I've never heard this
People will correctly identify that heteronormativity is a problem in old historiography and then immediately turn around and insist that two people must be having sex based on transgressive social intimacy. Then say something like "because sex is a human need for fulfillment."
Ah if only there was more than one kind of normativity to keep in mind....
This isn't exclusive to same sex attraction or love either. Anyone who digs into Empress Elisabeth's writings enough will find pretty clear statements about being apathetic (or disinclination) to physical intimacy and fulfillment from totally separate parts of her life.
We can't assume that people's highest fulfillment comes from having sex with the people they love. I wish we could have more nuance about this.

devastating when good characters are put into a stupid show. you were born to fly but that evil hag of a showrunner clipped your golden wings. be free on ao3, my little dove. be free
Out of the various points someone can use to argument why they don't ship Leon and Claire I have crossed the dumbest one that said "Claire hates gun, she would hate Leon"
Claire Redfield
Hates guns
Claire motherfucking Redfield
The one with the cooler guns? With the mini? The grenade launcher? The one who headbutted a man while tied to a chair? Claire "guns are more reliable than people"? Claire who is currently training with Jill to be even more badass?
That Claire?
Just because she is an activist doesnt mean she is a pacifist. And she is not a paicifist at all, I will tell you that
my final stance on the castle town discourse
have been EXTREMELY attached to the ridiculous krusielle situation at the festival
Hello hi, I am just a lurking follower who enjoys your work, but I gotta say, I am utterly fascinated about your commentary on aro Claire and Leon and the dynamic between the two. Admittedly I don't ship them together BUT it's a lot because of those same reasons you pointed out (even edging towards unrequited), and Infinite Darkness put out a really interesting thing in the mix for it. In my DnD brain very simplified version of thing, it feels very Leon Lawful-Good vs Claire Neutral-Good where the even with aligned intentions, their experiences shape a lot of the reasoning and actions they take. Leon having the negative government experience being pulled into the fight but being given the means to fight, while ironically Claire sometimes is dealing with shady government figures that impede her own intentions and mission to help other on top of that. (And Claire's love life being as cursed as it is thus far, I can easily see her as aro). They're fighting the same fight on different fronts, different resources, and similar yet different baggage as a result of the fight, including the way they both cope with it. Of sorts, plus their own personal prides thrown in there that gives it another layer of unresolved things. The amount of untapped potential Capcom has set up intentionally or otherwise for exploring these dynamics -including with Chris, Jill, Sherry, and others- is insane but I dunno, I know their remakes are doing a whole other timeline thing and that's a whole other mess. This is less a question more a comment I wasn't not sure is okay to put out there. Again tho, really interesting perspective you've got on these two to think on, genuinely appreciate reading your thoughts.
It is! There's such a very modern take on the whole aristocrat vs poor dynamic you tend to see in Jane Austen's stories with Leon and Claire and it's SO SAD that Capcom doesn't want to explore that dynamic more yet. I think they are trying with the remakes but they are also afraid of drifting away from the already stablished fanbase from the original storyline with their characters, but that already falied hard with 6 (hence why 7 was a new fresh take with Ethan). But the adults who buy the merch are the ones who lived with that original timeline so it's corporate stablishment of secure income vs new ideas that are actually more fleshed and satisfying with the audience but they need to secure it first, but i digress
Oh, for sure Leon's and Claire's dynamic is edging on unrequited. Personally I already feel they have a good base in being a QPR that are rising an adopted child and there's no need to change that but develop it and deep more in how a QPR works. Since there's the whole goverment issue behind them that can taint their lives (more than it already has) so there can be a follow up in how gaining "an official goverment label" would be detrimental to their relationship. There's canon base lore of doomed married couples (the Birkins, Ethan and Mia, the Bakers) and Capcom could work on that, making an emphasis on how stereotypical romantic roles don't work with their worldbuilding. Heck, there's the storyline of obssesed abusive dynamics with the Ashford twins, Simmons and Ada, and Wesker and Excella. The writers can make romance as horror work so the whole concept they already have of found family and partnership be uplifted.
Funny that you mention the resource for fighting the same fight, yes! Vendetta actually touches on Leon losing those privileges and in Requiem he is forced to go rogue, so I feel there's the intention of finally moving the plot of goverment corruption and taking away the resources some of the characters had to finally come together with a good story rather than the semi-Avenger bullshit that fumbled in 6 (that was just an excuse to make the plot revolve around Ada when it shouldnt have). Chris' team is seen as being corrupted so there's def going to be a follow up on how his squad is formed, the DSO is losing members and there's Terrasave also being seen as a terrorist organization by some of the public (Death Island) so I feel something is cooking with the different approaches on how to fight the bioweapons so the unresolved tension between certain characters are dropped. We just need to know where the fuck is Jill in all this (FREE MY GIRL FROM THE BASEMENT).
Capcom just need to drop the fucking fanservice once and for all
Youtuber I'm watching react to Among Us (not saying who cause apparently paramount is taking down reactions, fuck youuu) made such a good lecture on how moral decisions are not written to be black and white, they are just decisions
And sorry to be fandompilled and obsessed, but yes, I bringing that point to Claire and Leon in Infinite Dakness. Because the thing was "Claire was angry at Leon for acting as a bootlicker" and it's an understandable moral decision from her part to feel angry about it but (and this is the point the youtuber made about Purple and Red who have the same dynamic actually), the root of those feelings were not only about the "you are a goverment dog" but also faced with the possibility of "if you were in that place, would you have done the same?"
Basically, if Claire was in Leon's place and realized the chip could kill him, would she have given it to him?
We know the answer it's no, Claire doesn't like playing with others lives, but since it was HER life on the perill, she didn't care and was angry at Leon for not letting her being disposed and tossed around, for him letting himself being used AGAIN by Uncle Sam instead of fighting for his freedom. And it was easier for her to be angry and blame someone instead of confronting her own feelings and the realization that maybe Leon's care for her was never about patronizing her but beyond that, but that should have mean talking about her own self-worth and how little she sees her life compared to the corporation greed that's going around them even if maybe her life is actually more important to someone else, but that would also mean admitting her own care for Leon and breaking the already default dynamic they have already formed and there's no time to touch right now when the world is dying and there's too much guilt to unpack from both sides.
Leon's "I'm a dog forced to follow orders, I will bark away from you so my owners won't have you owned, and I know you will be the one who will find my corpse when it's all over" vs Claire's "I have seen you being used too many times, I will sing so you can look upwards, so you can see there's a sky; why do I have wings if you can't fly by my side".
To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.
ngl, I think the best fandom so far I have interacted with (in MY experience) is TLK one, because we have canon being rewritten from time to time and we go "thank you for your service" and just add whatever we want from it to our stories
Like, yeah, it exists, we adapt and overcome and have our fun regardless of what Disney says
I hate you shipping discourse I hate you unnecessarily aggressive DNI banners I hate you dehumanization of those you disagree with I hate you harassment over ships or favorite characters I hate you purposeful lack of nuance I hate you false equivalencies I hate you policing how people engage in fandom I hate you actively trying to make fandom spaces hostile I hate you refusal to filter your feed I hate you making it everyone else’s problem
