One of the most important modernist writers, Virginia Woolf wrote fifteen books including novels, short story collections, and biographies. Her work was often experimental and included techniques such as stream of consciousness. Frustrated by the limitations placed on women, Virginia focused on female characters in her fiction and advocated for greater female empowerment in her nonfiction. A leader of the Bloomsbury group, Virginia ran Hogath Press with her husband, publishing some of the most influential writers of the early 20th century including TS Eliot, Gertrude Stein, and Sigmund Freud.
