undiagnosed/getting diagnosed autism culture is waiting patiently for a referral only to be told that because of covid, the waiting list is TEN YEARS LONG. a decade. i will have finished my bachelors and lets be honest probably my masters by the time ten years is up.

undiagnosed autism culture is your parents/family/friends being mostly totally aware you’re probably autistic but still just insisting you can “get over things” or “learn to cope”. It’s you insisting you need accommodations to allow you to have headphones with you because they are A) helpful sensory wise and B) a genuine comfort item, and your people being like “mmmh. I think you should talk to your therapist about learning to be away from the stuff that actual helps you in times of distress, and learn to just “deal” with those distressing situations instead”

this might sound weird but like ive legit cried on some occasions when ive lost my headphones because they mean so much to me and they’re still like “I know you’re probably autistic but doesn’t that seem a little bit odd? I mean they’re JUST headphones” and im like

i am very fast at doing this. it usually works the first time but sometimes i have to ask what it means and they sometimes say "oh that was a typo it's actually [other unfamiliar slang word]"

Autism culture is when your nine year old cousin (who is a girl) gets diagnosed and you're more happy than she is because her mum See's it as a massive difference between her kids, though my male cousin is also probably autistic or ADHD, I Haven't figured out which. It kinda pains me when I think about it because I was diagnosed at 13 (also female though I don't identify as that) and I just want her to be herself.

Early diagnosed autistic culture is being so annoyed with late diagnosed autistics talking about how, “if only they were diagnosed as a child, their life would be perfect”. Like, none of the good things that you fantasize about early diagnosed people getting do we actually get. Please learn about how we actually live our lives. Stop assuming that you would be happy if only it had been spotted early.
