I just spent 3 hours reading through this whole blog. It took so long as happy stimming distractions for a solid 10 minutes each time. I love thid AU. Do I care that it took 3 hours for me to read everything? No. Is it now 1:30am as I started reading this at 10:30pm? Yes. Do I mind? No. But eeeek this is so good and so much happy. I relate toLogan a lot. I have a much milder form of cerabal palsy (Not visible; can cause injuries) and I am autistic. This blog makes me so happy. It is so good. -🐧

what's emiles relationships with everyone like?

Note: i was having trouble describing the relationships with words when we answered this ask so i used what helps me describe relationships: foods. -Max

Virgil: Virgil looks up to Emile a fair bit. Virgil’s always been impressed with the way Emile’s able to handle and process hard emotions, because that’s something Virgil struggles with quite a bit. They’re also decent bros. They enjoy getting to relax around each other and not having to act like adults yet, instead soaking up the little bit of time they have left in their teens.  👊 (berry pie -Max) 

Dee: Dee and Emile are total geeks together and it’s great. Emile and Dee are both actually kinda hesitant around each other at first because they have both very similar and contradictory vibes so it was hard to get into a good groove with one another. But once they found that groove, they were Instant friends. They love talking about psychology and challenging each other in intellectual ways in a safe, friendly way. They’re both very clear at explaining the intent behind their words to one another to best understand each other. (french toast -Max)

Roman: Emile is vaguely like a dad to roman he likes to make sure this kids ok and used to babysit him and remus.  Emile checks in on roman a lot and roman agrees emile gives the best hugs. Emile usually always has a hairtie on hand for roman because his hair can be a bit much sometimes. (confetti cake -Max) 

Remus: At first Remus kinda saw Emile as a slightly more Logan-like Patton, and Emile saw Remus as a slightly more chaotic Roman, but eventually they spent enough time together to really get to know the other individually. Emile was the person who got Remus into animation, Remus claiming that he’s never liked it because oftentimes the shows weren’t high enough stakes for him. Then Emile showed his Avatar the Last Airbender and proceeded to binge it together. They have no excuses. They also now have a ton of inside jokes that everyone else should understand considering most of them have seen ATLA, but somehow don’t get. (s’mores -Max)

Patton: Patton and Emile are incredibly close and they understand each other with gender and they share similar taste in clothing and they both adore animals, these two are very sweet and adorable they love learning new recipes together and both love helping others. They talk about wanting to help people a lot (cotton candy -Max) 

Logan: Logan and Emile are also super close, but the two of them together can create quite an interesting outcome. Emile’s hyperverbal and Logan’s decently talkative, but the two of them together can actually be super mellow and quiet. They have this deep understanding and connection thats impossible to break. They often relate over difficult parents. Logan admires Emile’s strength, because he never seems to complain much about his shitty parents, and Emile admires Logan’s vulnerability in being able to open up about how frustrating his dad can be. Now only if they shared those two things with one another... (snickerdoodle cookies -Max)

Remy: Remy and Emile are a really good example of balance. They have their fair share of differences, but those differences are just enough to highlight their similarities and outline their individuality. Once they start dating, their relationship changes for sure, but they definitely aren’t ones to be super clingy. They are big fans of cuddling and date nights, but they're good at being independent while always coming back to one another. Emile and Remy, for lack of a better comparison, are the turtle from the turtle and the hare. They personify “slow and steady wins the race.” Just a short while ago they were very very different people, and together they create an incredible balance, but they want to really think about the choices they make and the relationship they commit to. In the end, because of this care of their relationship, it ends up being an incredibly powerful one, forged over love, trust, patience, and understanding.  👀♥️🏳️‍🌈 (neapolitan ice cream -Max)

Hey, it’s been a while. I think everyone can agree on that.

But! We have not forgotten about this blog!! We appreciate all the lovely support we’ve gotten from you guys while we’ve been away.

To give a short very vague explanation: we’ve both have been swamped with major life events and changes and we’re both starting to settle in a bit more so here’s to hopes that content shall return soon (Im guessing before the end of October possibly?).

Quick Life Update

Hi this is Max! I just wanted to say sorry if we haven’t posted much recently, life’s kinda gotten in the way and I’m out of town right now so we haven’t gotten the chance to work on asks 😅 but please know that we do see the asks you send and are very appreciative that your guys are patient with us. Hey!! I adore this blog so much!! It makes me happy flappy every time I visit it. Can you go over everyone’s special interests and hyperfixations again? I know you have probably gone over them, but I would love to hear more information on them if possible. How long was this their SpIn or hyperfixation?? How often do they infodump (probably heaps like me)? What is their favourite thing relating to their SpIn/hyperfixation?? I love this blog so so much

All of these characters have had a ton of spins/hyperfixations so we definitely aren’t going to be able to cover all of them but here are some main ones

Virgil

spins/hyperfixations: emo bands and fashion

The average length of special interests/hyperfixations is 3-5 years

Virgil infodumps with people they care about a lot. It’s a way they show they’re connected and care about someone.

Fav related thing: Stimming to music

Dee

spins/hyperfixations: philosophy, snakes, theater 

The average length of Dee’s special interests have mostly been lifelong and/or from childhood

How often they infodump: not often and usually only around really close friends basically just remy, his moms, and Virgil but it takes a longggg time for him to be comfortable infodumping to anyone 

Fav related thing: Defending snakes and philosophical debates

 Roman

spins/hyperfixations: Disney and art history 

Roman’s Disney special interest has been around for forever, but besides he often flips through special interests really quickly

Roman infodumps all the time and he communicates through infodumping a lot as well

Fav related thing: Watching and quoting disney/using disney to communicate

Patton

spins/hyperfixations: animals and animal care, the science behind light, Winnie the Pooh 

Patton’s special interests usually last a year to a few years and he generally always circles back to animals

Patton takes any chance he can get to infodump and he does it allllll the time (including infodumping to his dog)

Fav related thing: Applying their animal knowledge to Rose

Logan

spins/hyperfixations: astronomy, poetry, the ocean, chemistry, environmental science 

Lengths average about a month to a couple months 

Logan infodumps a fair amount, generally in processing of getting his point across

Fav related thing: Backyard science experiments

Emile

spins/hyperfixations: cartoons and animation, psychology, autism, Pokémon 

Emile tends have the same special interests but goes through them in cycles

Emile infodumps to his friends semi-often but avoids infodumping in front of adults, especially his parents

Fav related thing: Emile enjoys consuming knowledge/learning more about his SpIns

Remy

spins/hyperfixations: fashion, queer history, mixology/drink making, sleep, and poetry 

Lengths range from a couple months to a couple years 

Remy starts to infodump a lot without realizing and then notices he’s “talking too much” and will cut himself off and stop

Fav related thing: The intense happiness and emotions that come with engaging in your hyperfixations

What is Patton and Remus’s relationship like? -🌸

So Patton and Remus slowly become friends and they find themselves getting together a lot for “puppy play dates” which gives their dogs an excuse to run around like maniacs while Patton and Remus chat

One day remus casually mentions he and roman used to do gymnastics together and patton’s like oh yeah that makes sense

And out of curiosity patton asks if remus still has any of that flexibility left and remus just laughs and then gets up and then starts walking on his hands a la Ty Lee from ATLA

Patton’s jaw just drops and Remus just straddles his legs, bends his arms down and folds so his legs are hooked over his shoulders and patton starts slow clapping

Eventually remus unfolds and is standing upright again and patton’s just raring to go with a million questions bc how does your body Do That

Remus eventually starts talking about how even though he doesn’t do gymnastics anymore, he still keeps up his flexibility

So as they talk and patton’s just spitballing question after question about it (which remus gladly answers enjoying patton’s excitement), one of patton’s questions, hits a bit too close to home

The question triggers an intrusive thought for Remus, and it’s a bad one

Now Remus has been in therapy and home schooling for a while now, and he’s been doing pretty well in terms of intrusive thoughts

So having a thought this bad, kinda shocks him because it’s been a while since he’d had anything this bad.

Remus asks if he can pass on the question and patton says sure but is now kinda concerned because remus is acting out of the norm for remus, he’s acting closed off and grabbing his arms and worrying his lip between his teeth

Remus nods when patton asks if it’s ok if they ramble as a distraction for remus and so patton just talks about rose and some flowers they saw the other day the rose adored and how they bought those flowers and made a flower crown for rose

After a while of patton’s rambling, patton asks if remus is ok and remus just nods 

Eventually Remus mutters, “I'm sorry you had to see that, I get intrusive thoughts from time to time and one of the questions you had triggered a bad one, which is not your fault you didn’t know, but uh yeah. I haven’t had any that bad in a while and it just kind of, ya know, shocked me.” 

Patton: “Oh okay. Are there any triggers you have that I should avoid?”

Remus shrugs and says nothing

Patton: “Okay, uh, I’m not really sure what to do right now. Is there any way I can support you?”

Remus: “I guess… I just feel very alone.”

Patton nods and sits criss-cross

Patton: “I get that. I struggle with depression. And it can be hard because in reality I know I’m not alone, but the bad thoughts start to press down and become all consuming and it’s suddenly the only thing you can think about. I don’t know if I can make it better for you. But I can relate and I can support you. I care about you Remus.”

Remus asks Patton if they can hug and once he gets confirmation, Patton and Remus are grasping each other tightly as Remus cries into Patton’s shirt

From then on they've always had this understanding and support between them where they know that they’re never alone with each other

Like one time Roman came home and said patton wasn’t at school that day which worried remus and so remus texted patton and learned that patton was having a bad day

Remus then showed up 30 minutes later at patton’s house with a tub of chocolate ice cream and they sat together watching cruddy movies and laughing at bad plots and acting 

and then watching kipo and the age of wonders beasts which is a show they both enjoy (remus for the weird mute designs and setting and patton for the character dynamics, humour, and the fact that the shows main character stays so purely good even as she grows less naive) 

So yeah they’re pretty good buds

Side note roman, remus, patton and logan are the ultimate pjo nerds squad and they all geek out over their supposed godly parents, they also bond over having a missing parent so there’s a lot of missing mom/dad jokes and they like to have a grand old time together

Ooo can we see more of Patton and Remus?

So Patton and Remus meet at Roman’s bday party and they get to talking because they’re both kind of standing off to the side because Patton doesn’t know a lot of Roman’s friends from school 

and the only people he does know are Logan and Emile who are off talking to some classmates Roman invited

Patton’s having a pretty emotionally overwhelming day so he goes to hide in the Grimm’s backyard with Rose and to calm down a bit

But there’s already someone else there

A roman copycat that Patton realizes must be Remus

The two of them kinda look at each other for a minute, before Remus kind of gives a wave at the background and vocally says Patton’s welcome to join him

So Patton sits near him and lets Rose do DPT

Remus throws a ball a his side, and a husky Patton hadn’t noticed before goes chasing after it

Cue Patton happy stimming because DOGGO!!!!

Remus smiles at Patton’s happy stimming and starts telling Patton about Koda and has Koda do some tricks

Patton thinks Koda is adorable and pets Koda when Koda walks up to Patton 

Patton is squealing because now he pet!!! Two doggos!!!

Plus dog fur is such a good stim and Koda is so so fluffy

And Remus shared all about Koda so Patton does the same about Rose, infodumping about his amazing pupper

At first Patton is surprised about how well Remus is with his autistic traits and then remembers oh yeah Remus is Roman’s twin and Roman did mention a lot about how cool Remus was at camp

Patton and Remus end up staying there for like two hours just talking about their dogs and chillin

From then on they pretty much become instant friends

They also plan a lot of puppy play dates

can we hear some more about Remy ans learning to not be ableist?

Whooo boy

So Remy gets the hang of not being blatantly ableist

He stops assuming autism fits into this perfect box of “cant do anything and interact with people”

He stops babying Virgil

He listens to his friends and respects them

He makes mistakes but he learns and things are going well

There’s just on thing

Remy starts playing the role of “allistic person knows best”

Meaning that Remy starts jumping into conversations about autism and speaking over his friends, he can push them out of their comfort and growth zones into panic zones, he assumes when his friends need support instead of letting them come to him

Remy pretty much gets to the point where he thinks he understands his friends better than they know themselves

And he doesn't consciously mean to do this, it just,,,,, kinda happens

Which in turn lead to Remy accidentally speaking over them 

So this incident occurred when patton and remy were going to see a new movie because patton didn’t want to go alone and everyone else was busy and remy needed a cover because he secretly wanted to see the movie too 

(what movie? Idk Dogcopter 6 i guess /j)

So they walk in together and someone says something about Rose

Which Patton’s used to but Remy is Not

They get approached by a Karen™ who promptly tells them “Seriously? A dog in a theater? It’s probably not even a service dog!” 

Despite the bunch of shiny patches on Rose’s vest saying “Service Dog: Do Not Pet”

But before Patton and Remy can explain that the lady points to the patches and says “It’s not real! Real service dogs have ‘serious’ vests!”

And she promptly walks away and patton and remy think that’s the end of that until not even five minutes later they’re approached by a theater usher 

Usher: “Sir, there are no dogs allowed in the theater. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” 

Patton: “Well Actually-”

Remy: “She’s a service dog. She’s helping her handler right now.” 

The person looks at the dog and then at Patton, obviously not quite believing it.

Usher: “Does she have papers?”

Remy: “Service dogs don’t need papers. ADA. Look it up. We’re going to our movie now.”

The worker pulled out their phone and typed something and nodded and apologized for the inconvenience and walked away

Remy and Patton start walking to the theater but before they get there Patton pulls Remy aside

Patton: “Hey so I know you had good intentions, but please don’t do that again.”

Remy: “Do what?”

Patton: “Ok so like, when the worker came over to talk to me. I started talking and you cut me off. You took over what I was going to say. I have experience handling people like that. I appreciate the help but I had it under control.”

Remy: “oh, okay. I’m sorry-”

Patton: “Also you spoke over me which wasn’t cool. Like I’m sure it wasn’t your intention but you spoke over me like you knew what’s best for me, which is harmful because while doing that you’re not listening to me and my needs. You spoke over me.”

Remy: “oh shit. I didn’t mean to, I’m really sorry, even when i tried not to be ableist I still ended up being ableist for fucks sa-”

Patton: “Remy. It’s ok. You made a mistake, it happens. You didn’t know. Just don’t do it again and we’re all good. Take a deep breath, everything’s going to be ok.”

Remy takes a breath and nods

Patton: “Okay, we’re okay. Let's go watch this movie and then talk a bit more after, alright?”

So they go watch the movie and up grabbing lunch after it

And as they're eating Patton starts to explain

Patton: “I’ve noticed that a lot of times you have good intentions when you stand up for me and our friend group, especially about autistic things. But like I said earlier- you often jump ahead and speak over us instead of listening to what we need.”

Remy: “Yeah.”

Patton: “and it’s important for you to know that you’re not autistic. You don’t know our lives. I'm really enjoying getting to know you and being your friend, but it’s important that you listen and respect use and what we say. That’s what being a good ally is.”

And yup,, now that rsd guilt is really starting to settle in Remy

Patton: “But you’re doing okay, and you’re listening. You’ve genuinely changed so many ableist views and sure- you gotta keep working on it- but you’re not a bad person and you are a good friend. Okay?”

Remy: “Okay.”
