actually i do want more female characters who've experienced rape i just don't want men to ever write them ever again and i want all fandoms to stfu about it forever. not by ignoring it i mean stop acting like a female character experiencing something incredibly common for women to go through is inherently bad writing i hate you all so muchhhhh
idk i make this post every few months worded differently but I'm just so so sick of the popular opinion seeming to be that a character i like experiencing trauma i relate to is taboo and gross and fetishising. idk maybe some people just want to tell a story about a thing that happens to people. a lot. im going to start whining that any character with a dead parent is romanticising grief and wank off material for grief fetishists
also interesting that male characters with sexual trauma are almost always lauded as Progressive examples of Good Writing but you can't even point out the obvious signs that a female character in the exact same media has gone through the same thing without people crawling over each other to explain to you that actually that's shallow shock value writing so we should ignore it. because obviously a woman's trauma is only there for men to jerk off to and men's trauma is Real and worth exploring
more out of personal curiosity than anything, but on a pure self-identification basis would Ellen consider herself a trans or cis woman? or a lil bit of both? she got that tgirl swag
Ellen's not sure herself and would shrug while saying "both," but she'd also quietly fixate on you saying "swag" and briefly walk with an intentional sway to her hips.

So the thing about r/relationships, r/AITA, etc. and similar subreddits is this:
Out of 100 posts that are 99% likely to be bullshit, you will on average have 99 creative writing stories and 1 guy having the worst, weirdest month of his life who is desperate for advice on what to do about his couch eating Brother in law or whatever.
In general the mods there have decided that the tradeoff of 99 people getting up votes for nonsense is worth helping the one person in desperate surreal need. (There are also other benefits; treating all posts as if they are real avoids endless unsolvable arguments in the comments)
But if you share that stuff outside its origin, where none of that upside applies, then I'm going to assume you're a credulous idiot or an attention-seeker. If you make it clear that you're doing it to support some asinine social view, doubly so. Stop sharing that shit, it does not help to be spreading around made up nonsense
This shit is only going to get worse as LLMs get better at producing ragebait, by the way. We are facing a coming tsunami of stories that flatter your worldview and make you feel righteously angry. You need to get into the habit of ignoring things that don't have evidence.
when i was a kid i loved audiobooks (still do) and i always wondered why i had to “check out” an audiobook online thru overdrive and latter libby for a limited time, since if they always had the digital copy of the audiobook there was nothing stopping them from just letting anyone have it, at any time, and for any length of time. i was a kid so assumed it was for some complicated reason that i didnt understand, instead of the uncomplicated and stupid as fuck reason that it’s like that so publishing companies can make money rofllll

A detail I find really interesting about Chell, GLaDOS, and Wheatley's first confrontation in Portal 2 is when Wheatley starts gloating about taking over the facility. "I did this! Tiny little Wheatley did this!"
And GLaDOS interjects like, "You didn't do this. She did all the work!"
I find that interjection fascinating because. Like.
GLaDOS doesn't actually know anything about what happened behind the scenes. She lost track of Chell and Wheatley after Wheatley opened up a wall panel and they bolted off together into the facility's inner workings. She doesn't see them again until Chell falls for her fake door trap, at which point GLaDOS is unpleasantly surprised to discover that Chell's disabled the turrets and neurotoxin in the meantime.
She has no evidentiary foundation to base that accusation on.
This is also before GLaDOS recognizes Wheatley as the Dumbass Core, so it's not based on an assessment of him.
The only explanation it leaves is that it's based on her assessment of Chell. Despite GLaDOS's enmity towards Chell, the one thing she rarely goes after Chell for is her intelligence.
When she does, it's an admission of her high standards for Chell; Like when the fake door trap works and GLaDOS concedes, "I didn't actually think that would work. I already built a much better, smarter trap up ahead for when this one fails." That's a backhanded insult. It's calling her dumb, but in a disappointed way rather than an affirming way.
Chell tests very well. Between the two games, GLaDOS has developed a strong understanding of Chell's aptitude for critical thinking and problem-solving in stressful situations.
And so she takes it on faith, just from what she knows of Chell, that Wheatley is stealing Chell's credit.

i know it's been said on here and said again but people do so desperately need to genuinely do intentional work to build distress tolerance and start figuring out how to recognize the differences between danger, discomfort, and when a situation that is merely uncomfortable is triggering an emotional flashback in your bodies because it resembles a past situation that actually was dangerous which makes it difficult to realize/believe that this moment is merely uncomfortable.
i spoke to an allistic person who said their autistic classmate had a meltdown in class, during which the autistic classmate collapsed to the floor in the middle of the room, screaming and crying. they said it was "terrifying" and they were arguing for the autistic student to be removed permanently from the program.
when i asked whether their autistic classmate's meltdown was dangerous or merely uncomfortable, they said, "i felt like i was in danger!"
i understand that. but that's not what i asked.
"i shouldn't have to experience that."
yes you should, actually. that's life. upsetting things happen. no one should have to experience any discomfort. but we do. we get stung by bees and sunburns and headaches. we live in bodies in the world.
autistic people are human beings who have the right to exist in society, including during meltdowns. having one class of your entire semester interrupted by a singular meltdown is not anymore of an infringement upon your entitlement to education than having your class interrupted by a fire alarm or cancelled for a snow storm.
one of my peers once experienced a cardiac event 10 minutes into class. it was terrifying. it was desperately upsetting. i was contacted by the school and offered counseling because i happened to be the one who managed the situation until paramedics arrived. everyone was worried about my classmate first and foremost, and then about me. no one blamed anyone, and certainly when my classmate happily recovered and returned to school, no one thought they should be removed from the program.
the difference being that people believe a disabled personal, especially with cognitive disabilities, in crisis are not experiencing something outside of our control, but instead that we are in fact making a choice to make a scene, out of malice.
When you are a trans woman who is still trying to be accepted by wider society, or even just other progressives and queers, you will find yourself constantly shrinking, accepting all kinds of poor treatment, and it will never be enough. You will start to do the policing for them. You won't speak unless spoken too. You will understand that simple, fundamental aspects of the human experience are off limits for someone like you. You will nod meekly as you got lectured about male socialization, while deep down inside you're screaming that you've been the most pathetic,passive, zombie-like excuse for a human being and it's still not enough. 31 years on this wretched planet and you've never asked someone out, never initiated flirting. You''ve made yourself so quiet and soft spoken and you're still suspect. If you try to talk about it they'll misgender you to your face as punishment. They will never stop to ask if they need to examine their unconscious biases against people like you Eventually you'll give up, you'll start hanging out with the other problematic trannies. You'll remember that you used to have a personality before the world ground it out of you. You'll realize that you've made a joke about your own sexuality for the first time in 15 years and you aren't getting crucified for it . You'll say something awkward and nobody will care. You will start to have some self respect. You will finally allow yourself to feel indignant. You'll never find enough words to describe the hypocrisy, to ask why their radical politics stopped just shy of seeing you as a human being.
