I see this question floated around quite often. People either ask, "what is the best way to build a bankroll?" or, "what's the fastest way to build a bankroll from scratch?" The obvious answer to...
Building a bankroll? You need to read this.
US facing Bovada has sold the online poker segment of its business to Ignition Casino, but the liquidity sharing arrangement with Bodog will remain intact.
Wow, didn’t see this coming.
Fold Equity, bitches
BET RAISE FOLD tracks the explosion of online poker, its people, and its politics that have formed an entirely new kind of industry. In the early 2000s, a world that was once reserved for seasoned pros/James Bond became accessible for young players, and the face of the game started to change. This doc tells stories of online poker aficionados who used their skills to support families, build a career, or dive into the world of poker. What will happen to these “mavericks” after the massive 2011 shutdown of online poker?
You can now buy BET RAISE FOLD directly from the filmmakers. No poker face required.
Good flick, glad I helped fun it back in the day.
Why Online Poker is Better Than Live Poker?
Today, online poker has gained immense popularity which has given birth to millions of poker players in the world. But that doesn’t mean, live poker has lost its importance. Yes; the advent of online poker has discursively fostered the live poker. There are myriad of differences between online poker and live poker, and if you are an amateur poker player, then it is good to pick either one of the poker form after checking out their pros and cons. You can also read about Patrick Antonius and Barry Greenstein - the Gods of Online Poker and Live Poker. Whichever form of poker you choose, make sure you do not play too many games, else you may take it for granted, and end up losing a lot of money.
Play Anytime Anywhere
In online poker, you have a luxury of playing the game from anywhere anytime. It roughly takes 5 seconds to walk from your bed to your computer while live poker requires a car drive into the casino. When playing poker on laptop, you can sit in a leather recliner with wheels, and can drive around the house, and in casinos you have to spend approx $80 hourly for the masseuses who will massage out the aches and pains that the live poker chairs will necessarily develop.
Pace Of The Game
This is a big difference in the speed of play of both the online and live poker games. For instance, in live poker you would find yourself blessed to see more than 30 hands per hour; however this is considered a slow pace. The slow pace of game play in live poker creates boredom and usually takes long time to make a decent pot size. Moreover, one cannot play multiple tables, so it reduces the chances of growing your pot quickly. In online poker, you would be playing more like 60 hands per hour, which is almost twice the rate you would see in live poker. Further, if you are playing multiple tables in one session you could end up playing like 200 hands in an hour.
Dynamics
The game dynamics of live and online poker are entirely different, and one has to follow different approaches to play these games. In live poker, you are present physically, and are in direct contact with your opponents, you should follow a relaxed and passive approach to the game. You can definitely change the style of game play once the game starts but you should always start it this way. Additionally, live poker players bet in both small and large size depending on the action going on the table, so this leads to inelasticity in betting. While in online poker, betting style is more inelastic as players bet large amounts when they have strong hands.
Retardation
In online poker, there is low probability of someone suffering from mental retardation on daily basis because you play poker online in the safety and comfort of your own home. In live poker, retardation creeps everywhere because of the mental pressure surrounded by your opponents at the table. Every now and then, they may tell you how you misplayed your hand , may pass negative comments on your moves and threaten you to see outside the casino. Such mental stress sometimes leads to depression or gangrene among poker players.
So, whichever form of poker you choose to play, you need to have optimistic outlook when playing online or live poker, and also be careful about how you play the game.
