I want to make a thing for my friends as a sort of 'what to not do/what to try/what to look for' for when I'm having a meltdown and/or shutdown (prolly 2 separate docs) because they've expressed concern and wanting to help but I don't know what to put on it? Especially for my meltdowns, I don't even know what helps them? Do you have any advice or ideas? I'm asking around looking for suggestions, even just things to consider myself to figure it out.

i think the general idea is: remove overwhelming sensory input, get out of the overwhelming situation, and if desired, stim stim stim stim stim.

i hope this gives you some ideas!

it’s possible to have learned to cope with the social issues. however it is also possible to have only sensory processing disorder, which includes stimming, hyper- or hyposensitivities and similar things!

I can't read sentences when theres sound around me. I'm okay with reading while listening to music because I put the music on but when unwanted sound is around me it's almost impossible for me to focus

I have this as well. I'm a very audial thinker,and my SPD mainly manifests in auditory processing difficulties,so if I have noise,thinking,reading,and focusing are twice as hard.

Hi. Saw the service dog ask and was wondering if you know how to train/choose/register/if you have to be diagnosed/etc a service dog or know of any good resources on it (that are easily understood and such are preferable) or anything else about diy service dog things for autism, dissociation, SPD, and a multiple that is little? In general, or for Florida. Thank you. :)

Wow,that’s a lot of questions. So according to ADA,service dogs DO NOT have to be registered and there is no national registry. Any site that claims that they are one is a scam.

As far as being diagnosed,if you want to work with a trainer,you will have to be diagnosed as most,if not all of them require some sort of documentation of necessity. Training the dog yourself is an option,but having done this with my step-dad’s dog,I will tell you that this is very difficult. (And they went to a trainer once a month.)

There are tasks that a dog can be trained to do specifically for Autism,such as deep pressure therapy,but I don’t know a lot about it as I mainly need one for my PTSD. The more complex the task,the harder it will be to teach.

When picking a dog,I highly recommend getting a puppy so as to avoid any issues with the dog. It’ll be twice as hard to train a dog for service work if it has abandonment issues,anxiety,fears,etc.

Service dog laws are pretty much standard across the country. I live in Kentucky so I don’t know Florida’s laws,but ADA covers the whole country.
