Avalon Liddell + Thoughts About Herself
ppl keep following this account but ava’s not back. vina, sophia, and i are just weird. i love you guys though. bless.
“Bailey’s amazing,” mutual Bailey worship, Rylie could do. Not a day went by where she didn’t tell her friend how great she was, so it wasn’t like as was gonna disagree, “And Eliza, too. She was super talented at baking… is, I mean. Just– elsewhere, now. She left a couple weeks ago. Bailey’s still here, though!” That fact had gotten her through her other best friends departure; she only hoped it could serve as some comfort to Avalon, too. She grabbed milk from the fridge quickly, the tea now brewed, and using a tea towel gotten from the side counter, gripped the metal handle of the pot. Pouring into the two cups, she slid Ava’s to her along with the milk and sugar– guests went first– before quickly withdrawing her hand. He is, she almost said back, very much so. She feared saying more would reveal too much, though; and the last thing she wanted was to reveal her relationship with Ava’s ex to her. Somehow, however friendly the other girl was right now… she just couldn’t be sure the same would stay true after the fact. It didn’t occur to her that it might be rude to ask until after, and she kicked herself for saying anything at all– but as they say, curiosity killed the cat, and Rylie was more than a little curious about what Avalon was doing back. “I see…” she didn’t, of course. She didn’t understand the situation at all, and frankly, she knew it wasn’t her place to– Ava and Alex were before she’d ever took notice of the boy, and she had no claim over him now to have a right to be so nosy, “I-I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you. Probably even more happy that you’ve come back just to talk to him. For what it’s worth… I hope the inevitable conversation goes well.”
“I don’t think she knows just how amazing she is and it saddens me.” She thought of the countless times she tried telling her. “Did she leave? Well I’m sure she baking wherever she is. She’ll do well anywhere.” It was nice knowing that some of her friends had also moved on to their next stage of life after the school. Not that there was anything wrong with being there. It was a wonderful place. But there was so much more to life and the world and Ava believed that everyone she go out and experience it. Avalon watched as the girl put the cups of tea together staying quiet and still, not wanting to to disturb her or make a mess of things. She was still trying to figure Rylie out. Both who she was to Alex and what type of person she was. Not bringing up everything that was on her mind was slightly out of character for the girl, she usually said anything and everything, but there was something about the current situation that kept her reserved. Instead she just flashed the girl another smile. Maybe things would be better if she explained the whole situation to her, but even if that was the case, Alex should be the one to do it. This was someone who is in his life, not hers. It wasn’t her place to just go about telling details of his life he might not want shared to people who went to school with him. “I don’t know about that. What I did wasn’t.. it wasn’t something someone should normally do.” You don’t tell someone you love them and leave. “Thank you though, for saying that.”
Alex had been sitting on the sidelines, his eyes focused on the game, watching the players and occasionally talking to the coach in a low voice. Nothing could break his concentration - until he spotted a familiar blonde face, the last person he was expecting to see, across the pitch. “Ava?” He mouthed, his jaw dropping slightly in shock.
She waited a moment before walking toward where he sat. Only for a couple of seconds, but it felt like longer. Her eyes scanned him and she could tell he was okay enough to at least be in one piece. That’s all she could really hope for. “Alex.” The name slipped out of her mouth now that she was beside him. She stood there unsure of whether to sit by him or not.

Gods, she reminded her of Eliza– and as sad it was to think about her now gone best friend, it didn’t make her feel more uncomfortable at all. In fact, it served as a way of calming jittery nerves. “Bailey Forrester? She’s still on the team– but maybe you knew Eliza Diggs, when she was still here? Either of those two.” At the back of her mind, she’d already decided to ask Bailey about the girl next time she saw her; even if Ava didn’t remember her, there was a chance Bailey would remember Ava. The teabags were on a shelf that was only just in her reach, and Rylie gripped the box a bit too tightly, the level of intimidation she felt having doubled within the past few seconds. Before, it had been worry that this was some new girl of Alex’s; knowing that she was more of an old flame did nothing to help. Smile now fixed into place, unstrained, Rylie dropped two of the bags into the metal pot, bringing that first and then juggling two mugs and a sugar bowl, leaving everything on the counter in front of Ava. A friend. Heh. “He’s a great guy,” she replied, and for once, it was honest, “Definitely… a friend. Or something of the same.” The petty urge to call him her boyfriend, let her know that he was more than just a roommate or friend, was hard to fight off. But she had to remind herself that it wasn’t fair of her to feel threatened… not when whatever she had with Alex would never really compare to what she’d heard he had once with Avalon. “If you don’t mind me asking…” her words, she knew, needed to be chosen carefully, “What’s brought you back here? It seems like you’ve been gone a while.”
“Bailey, oh yes I knew her! She was so wonderful and a lovely friend. And Eliza. Gosh Eliza is just the best. A great baker. We had some great times. Both of them were just the best.” Part of her hurt a little bit thinking about the old times she had with her friends. It had been so long since she last spoke to them. But cutting people out after she left seemed to be the best thing for them. No having to deal with her and her crazy ways. Ava almost asked Rylie if she needed help reaching the teabags since she was taller, but quickly decided against it. The room felt more tense by the second and she wasn’t sure how to go about it. Maybe saying as little as possible was best. Hopefully Alex would show up soon or she could at the very lest find a good moment to excuse herself. “Alex is pretty fantastic..” The blonde replied back with a nod. Clearly something she said was wrong after all. Not wanting to make things worse, she decided not to question the girl. “No, no it’s fine to ask. I did show up at your door..” Ava was taken back a little, not really expecting to have to explain herself to a stranger. “I just have some things I need to say to Alex. I left without telling him and it hasn’t sat well with me.”
“You were a cheerleader?” Finally, there seemed to be some common ground, aside from the fact they both knew Alex, “My friend is on the squad. I thought you looked kind of familiar… maybe I saw you, way back.” She hoped that was the explanation. Or… at least close to it. Rylie herself had never been a cheerleader, unless you counted a few months back when she was attending her Brooklyn high school; when she’d come to WDA, she wasn’t in a place where she’d have been happy trying out. But she went to practices with Bailey sometimes, to support from the bleachers. Any soccer game she’d watched before Alex had been because she was watching for Bailey. Letting the door close with a soft thud behind Ava, Rylie led the way back to the kitchen, grateful that it wasn’t messy as per usual and thankful that her offer of tea seemed to have gone down well. At least there didn’t seem as if there’d be any more discomfort, at least for a short while. “I thought it might be stereotypical of me to assume you drank tea, just cause of the accent,” she chuckled, before gesturing to the seat she’d vacated earlier, “Feel free to sit. Moy dom, tvoy dom.” She flicked the switch on the already full kettle and turned back to the other in time for her to introduce herself. Avalon. Ava. She’d never met the other girl; she’d heard about her, though. In passing, more than anything. Ry had heard so little, in fact, she’d nearly forgotten the other’s existence– she’d never been relevant to her time with Alex, after all. “It’s nice to meet you,” voice a few levels quieter than before, she turned to look for teabags and mugs, busying herself so that her now strained smile would remain hidden, “I’m Rylie. Barton– Rylie Barton. It’s… yeah. Nice to meet you, Avalon.”
“Yup! One of my favorite hobbies. Not nearly as fun as baking though. Really? What’s her name? Maybe I know her.” She had been on the team all throughout high school and for the bit of college she did at WDU. There wasn’t a member on the team she didn’t at least know the name of. Hopefully talking about someone they both know could ease some of the awkwardness between them. The tall girl sat where she was instructed and took a look around. The dorms were definitely the same. It wasn’t like she had expected a dramatic change to have happened since she left, she was almost relieved to see the school continuing on without a care. All she wanted was for her friends to live happy lives. Her focus went back to the shorter of the two as she spoke. Ava hadn’t expected her voice to come out so softly. She leaned forward, straining to hear. “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you, Rylie Barton. Anyone who’s a friend of Alex must be great.” Her mouth shut into an awkward smile as she kicked herself for the last sentence. What an odd thing to say when you don’t even know who someone is. She had no way of knowing if they were friends. What if by saying that she made things weird? The urge to be out of the room became more apparent.
@alexander-kaligaris Now Avalon knew she couldn’t leave without speaking to Alex, not after talking to Rylie. Surly she would tell Alex about their run in. Ava made her way to the soccer field hoping the game was over or at least close to it. As she got closer she was able to spot the beautiful boy. Her eyes locked with his and she was sure he’d seen her. No turning back now.
It was hard to know what to do in such a situation; it wasn’t as if this was one of his friends, turning up like always or something. Rylie had, while seeing her around, never seen her in the dorm– she had no idea who this was, and at the back of her mind, there was almost a bit of… well, intimidation. Who wouldn’t be intimidated, though? An actual goddess, turning up at your door looking for the guy you were, at present moment, sort of involved with– it was a very intimidating thing. “It’s not like it was major news around campus. You can definitely be forgiven for not realizing,” if it weren’t for Ash dating one of the team, and her being so involved with Alex, then Rylie probably wouldn’t have known about the game either. A few months back, she would have been just as clueless. As daunting as the other girl’s sudden appearance was, her being nothing but nice meant that Ry would have felt bad if she’d made her leave. Maybe it would have been easier to let her go on her way, but the brunette stood aside and pulled the door that bit wider, trying to be as welcoming as possible. “I don’t mind at all. It’s just me here right now, anyway– you’d be keeping me company,” as true as the former statement was, she didn’t know how much could be said for the latter, “… Do you drink tea? I was just about to make a pot.”
Avalon was starting to wonder what this girl’s relationship with Alex might be. Not that it was her business anymore. It was her own fault for leaving. Honestly she wouldn’t mind if this could possibly be his girlfriend. One of her reasons for leaving was so he could find someone better for him than she was. This lovely lady in front of her seemed like a good pick as far as she could tell. “I haven’t been around in quite sometime. I used to love game days. Of course that may have only been because I was a cheerleader. Never was into just watching the game.” There she went rambling again. This person probably had better things to do than hear her go on about when she was in school. “Alright, thank you.” Ava walked into the dorm, happy to not be awkwardly leering in the hallway any longer. She perked up at the mention of tea. “Oh I would love some!” She beamed. “I don’t think a single person from London would turn down tea.” It dawned on her that she still didn’t know who this female was and they probably didn’t know her name either. “Where are my manners? I should introduce myself. My name is Avalon Liddell.”
