She tilted head and narrowed her eyes, a smirk forming on her face as she laid on the ground and saw a figure. āI see youuuu. You arenāt a very good hider.ā
"It's probably because I wasn't trying to hide, babe," Ava said as she stepped into clear view of the girl. It was probably a dumb move but she wasn't into playing hide and seek between prey and predator, "what do you want from me?"
"Yeah, Iāve got almost everything I need in my car. I can promise to try and avoid it."
"Then I'll probably to make more noise next time I come by here."
Holden grinned āDonāt worry, I know how to use it. I wonāt hurt myself.ā
"Accidents happen," Ava said matter of factly as she gave the boy a once over, "just looking out for you, that's all," she said as she shrugged but really she didn't want the boy to be accidentally stabbing himself and have people point fingers and say that she had done it.
"Here, have some."
"Um, thanks? But you're honestly making me very nervous with that knife near your mouth like that."
"No oneās ever offered that before. Iām-no Iām good. Thank you though, really that means a lot to me. Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Are you sure? It's okay, don't mention it. Hm, nothing really. Not shooting me like ever would be ideal but I'd be getting ahead of myself to ask you to do that."
"Itās a good habit to have. Thatāsā¦really sweet of you actually."
"Well, I have a soft spot for people who are traveling alone. Don't tell anyone though. They'd probably kill me. But do you? Need anything, I mean."
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āYou probably would,ā Haven replied, shoving his hands in his pocket and squinting his eyes as a dusty breeze blew, sending dirt flying their way, ābut, I hope youāre not stupid enough to try it.ā Haven looked the girl over again, and yeah, he definitely knew she was a northerner. They were always on the prettier side of the scale, and just looked higher class. They had more resources naturally because in the ancient days, they were richer ā they had more clothes, which it looked like she did. Hers were fairly clean. There was no doubt it his mind. He carded his hair back, and cocked a brow as he looked at her face, āWhyād you come all the way out here anyways? Especially while itās nearing nightfall?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ava really hated when people questioned her intelligence and something inside her made her want to prove Haven wrong but she knew that she probably shouldn't, "then what do you suggest I do?" she asked, annoyed with herself that she stayed out this late. She really shouldn't have but she was getting desperate and needed more medical supplies. She's only really told one person that they were running out and she didn't need to hear it from Hunter when he found out. "I told you why. I lost my brother and was looking for him. I didn't hear any gun shots or people yelling so I'm pretty sure he's not on this side though," Ava said trying to look as innocent as possible because she really didn't mean any harm. She just knew that there was no point to tell this man what she was really looking for because he'd probably kill her on the spot and go trigger happy to all the northerners just because then he'd know they wouldn't have enough supplies to fix themselves up.
"only because you appeared out of nowhere!"
"I tend to be very quiet when I walk, I'm sorry, it's a force of habit. I just came out to check on you to see if you needed anything actually."
"Exactly." Ace said, showing her a glimpse of his rare smile. "How the patrol going?"Ā
"It's going," Ava said while shrugging, "nothing exciting has happened but I'm sure that's a pretty good thing. What are you doing out here?"
"Thatās very true. I think about it sometimes though, what life would have been like back then. Before all of this madness."
"Can you even imagine it? I wonder if people still needed to grow their food or if it just came to their house whenever they wanted it to. Also water, I wonder if they had to get it from the rain or have a supply for it somewhere."
"Itās okay, I should have known better. What are you up to Av?"
"I'm actually looking around for more rags that I might be able to clean up. Don't tell anyone, okay? But I think we're running low on first aid supplies and we need more."
Haven gave a goofy amused smile at he theory, and he wouldnāt doubt her internally. Heās ran into quite a few women who managed to rough him up, and yes in the end, heād win ā without hitting them. No matter how doomed the world may be, he couldnāt see himself hitting a female. Itās weird cause heās killed plenty ā but he just canāt hit them. Itās different. Much, much different. Haven gave the girl a lopsided smile, āI could, but thatās just a waste of time, yeah?ā he said, shrugging his shoulders, āwhat are you doing on these parts, anyways? You know had I been someone else, you wouldāve gotten shot like ā there and then. As soon as you were spotted?ā
"Probably," she said, not knowing whether or not she should have agreed with him, "Lucky for me you weren't those type of people, right? Then again, I could have been the type to shoot you as soon as you made yourself known," Ava responded, trying not to give away that she didn't actually have a gun. She just had a knife because she never wanted to be one of those trigger happy people. "I'll be getting back to my side now. If I can make it," Ava mumbled, not so sure if she'll make it back before dark but then again, she didn't know which was more dangerous, being alone or trusting the man in front of her whom she knew nothing about.
"God you scared me!"
"I scared you? You're the one with the gun."
