We have been waiting for a while, but AVA FINCH was finally spotted in the village today. People heard whispers that she is a PSYCHIC that is hellbent on [ avoiding ] the veils. Will she succeed? Only time can tell. Until then we will keep a close eye on her as she listens to “EMPATHY” by ALANIS MORISSETTE.
~ THE BIOGRAPHY ~
cw: divorce, alcohol, drug use
Ava didn’t think there was anything special about her family growing up. She knew her parents loved her and her younger brother Wren, but the fact of the matter was that they’d been too young to start a family and things suffered for it. Her dad never seemed to be home, and she saw the toll that took on her mother and brother, as well as herself. He provided for them, but he wasn’t there for them. By the time the divorce happened, Ava honestly expected it. She wasn’t surprised by the events that occurred, not even her father telling her and Wren that they could stay with him whenever they wanted.
She’s not sure she wants to get to know the man who was like a ghost in her childhood, but at the same time she’s not sure if she has a choice. Things have been happening to her; things she doesn’t understand.
At the age of eighteen, Ava was in bed for days with a terrible migraine. Afterwards, she found she could sense things, hear things. It scared the hell out of her, and, not knowing what else to do, she began to self-medicate with pills and then alcohol, taking anything to drown out the voices, to numb the emotions that weren’t her own. She also started avoiding physical touch, as it was through touch that she experienced the emotions most vividly.
Her mother found out and thus followed years of rehab. It didn’t help. How could it? What was happening to Ava wasn’t normal. In a desperate attempt to help her daughter, she sent her to Wildemount, hoping Robin could somehow do something. Ava didn’t want to go, but she could see what all this was doing to her mother and brother, and she couldn’t watch them suffer anymore.
She’d been staying in lodging house to stall when the dome fell. With no way to go home and unable to keep up paying for her room, she finally caved and went to her dad’s.
She still hasn’t told him about the voices or the fact that she can somehow sense other people’s emotions, sometimes so strongly it’s like she’s experiencing them herself. She just wants it all to stop, to go away, and she wants to take care of it herself. She’s always taken care of herself. She doesn’t need Robin’s help. She doesn’t need him at all.
At this point, Robin has left Wildemount to help his son, who burned down his school during an unexpected flare of his phoenix abilities. Ava took over ownership of the Wonky Cross pub, but the stress caused her to backslide in her recovery. Taking her boyfriend Graviel’s advice, she decided to take a break from school to relieve one of her stressors. She now knows she’s a psychic empath and struggles to control her abilities.
