"Well, common sense has never been as common as they’d have you believe. But… I don’t know, the news used to be different."
"At least when they lied they did it on purpose."
"Different better or different worse?"
"News sources lying is probably a tradition at this point."
"I agree." She admitted, flashing a soft smile, "You need to come visit us soon, for dinner maybe." She paused and craned her neck to get a better look, "Oh think that’s our food. Just in time too. I don’t want to be late getting back."
"Sure," she agreed, nodding. "I'm always up for dinner with you guys." Kate followed Pepper's gaze as the waiter brought their food to the table, setting their plates down in front of them. "Yum," she said, adding, "Definitely. I don't want to make you late either."
"Oh I’m working on an upgraded kevlar. You look like the right size for the fitting. Sorry to just pull you around. It’s lovely to meet you as well."
"Upgraded kevlar?" Kate repeated, tilting her head curiously. "That definitely sounds useful. If you use my measurements does that mean I can get one of these upgraded vests when you're done?"
Pretty great but stable. Pepper was pleased to know that at least someone else thought that what she and Tony were doing actually meant something. Most people expected them to fail. She supposed she should have known that Kate of all people would see the best in them, “Yeah I have no idea how we even make it work anyway.” She chuckled, “But I figure that when you find someone worth making things more complicated with then you’ll let it happen.”
Kate held in an 'aw' as Pepper talked about her relationship with Tony. The press loved to make up stories about how the two of them were going to break up but it was plain to see how much they loved each other. If she found someone who loved her half as much as they loved each other, she would be lucky. "Definitely," she agreed, nodding. "And what you guys have is worth it."
"I’d hope so. I caught one of their morning news shows… It was such a train-wreck, I couldn’t look away."
"They need fact-checkers or something. How hard is it to pick up an atlas or a dictionary?"
"I know, their shows are such a disaster."
"Apparently it's as hard as it is for them to use common sense."
"That actual sounds awesome. What do you do, like teach kids to shoot? Cause that would have to be a riot."
"Sadly it's not that exciting. Besides, most adults tend to have a thing against letting their kids handle pointy objects. Mostly I try to help out at women's shelters or soup kitchens. They need all the help they can get--and usually they don't get a lot of it."
"Yes you! Oh you’ll be perfect." Jemma took hold of the other woman’s arm and moved her till she was positioned perfectly in the middle of the room, "Yes you are just the right size I think." She insisted as she took out the machine that scanned Kate to take her measurements, "Just a moment here. Oh I’m Jemma by the way." She said without even looking away from the instrument.
Kate let herself be handled, standing where the woman wanted her, before raising an eyebrow quizzically. "Perfect for what?" she asked, before her manners kicked in and she added, "Nice to meet you. I'm Kate."
"Who, me?"
"Eh not really. Girls hate me, and guys hate the fact that I can kick their ass." She said with a small shrug.
"Thanks. So what about you? What’s your day job?" She said leaning against the counter and watching over the girl in front of her.
Kate winced. "I take it back--that definitely doesn't sound like fun."
"I actually don't have a day job," she admitted, shrugging slightly. "I do charity work when I have free time available and sometimes I have events that I'm required to be at, but that's about it."
"Amen to that sista." Niko said with a laugh. "My day job is a personal trainer though so that kind of takes away from the badass-ness."
"Finally! The second pot of coffee is done brewing. Thank god. Since I drank the last bit of the last pot, you can have first dibs if you’d like." Niko said with a gesture to the machine of the gods.
"Being a personal trainer sounds pretty interesting though," Kate said, smiling. "You must have people falling over themselves to be your clients."
"Thanks," she replied, grabbing the finished pot and pouring until coffee filled her entire cup. She offered the pot to Niko, taking a sip of her coffee with her free arm.
"I dunno, Clint is kinda pretty looking himself, not gonna lie." She said with a grin.
"Is being a general bad ass count as a job description?"
Kate laughed. "He'll be flattered you think so."
"It works for me," she replied, grinning. "Besides, there are worse professions to have than being a badass all the time."
"Basically an Avenger huh? I thought there was only one Hawkeye." Niko said with a cock of her head.
"I guess I’m like a super spy or something. I dunno I’m just me." She said with a small shrug.
"I don't technically have a superhero name yet. 'Hawkingbird' just doesn't sound that great, you know?" she said with a grin. "Luckily SHIELD has no limit on archers and, anyway, Clint and I both know I would definitely be the prettier Hawkeye."
"A super spy? Sounds interesting. What exactly does that entail?"
"Do people actually take FOX News seriously? Is this what constitutes journalism these days?"
"I like to think that the people who watch FOX News watch it solely to laugh at how awful it is, but who knows."
"Seriously though, it needs to be a felony I swear."
"Well it’s nice to meet someone else who isn’t a morning person in here." She said with a grin. "So for the sake of conversation, what do you do around this joint? They apparently think I’m something special."
"I'm pretty much an Avenger. Not officially, but my job entails some of the same stuff. Archery's my thing." She shrugged before asking, "So, what do you do?"
