The Only Problem Gender Diversity In Tech Solves Is Feminists’ Low Self-Esteem
Feminists consistently state tech companies must close the 70/30 Gender Gap In Tech for the reason gender diversity is “good for them.” This leads to the question, “Why is it good?” The feminist answer is it makes the company “better.”
If more gender diversity would make tech companies “better” then logic dictates these companies must be performing poorly right now. However, that’s decidedly untrue. Tech companies and their highly skewed male workforces perform exceedingly well in every area of the sector. Apple, Facebook, Google and the rest are not failing - they are thriving.
Irony of ironies, the below male founded and dominated companies even make great products specifically deigned for women.
Bustle is an online women’s magazine founded in August 2013 by Bryan Goldberg.
It surpassed 10 million monthly unique visitors in July 2014, placing it ahead of rival women-oriented sites such as Refinery29, Rookie and xoJane; it had the second greatest number of unique visitors after Gawker’s Jezebel.
Etsy is an online marketplace founded by Robert Kalin, Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik that features a rate of 86% women sellers.
As of December 31, 2014, Etsy had 54 million users registered as members, and the online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods connected 1.4 million active sellers with 19.8 million active buyers. At the end of 2014, Etsy had 685 employees, and had 29 million items listed on its website. In 2014, Etsy clocked a total sales of US$1.93 billion on the platform.
If companies like Bustle and Etsy specifically geared toward women (but founded by men) do not need a gender diverse workforce to provide women tech products they love then Apple, Facebook, Google and the rest most definitely do not. The only problem closing the Gender Gap In Tech solves is feminists’ low self-esteem issue, but for that the more appropriate path is a psychologist.
Maybe they can Google one on their iPhone in between Facebook posts - if it doesn’t give them a meltdown that the “patriarchy” built those things for them.
