It breaks my heart that a better ending was possible, if only mc wasnt a selfish prick.

One Wish Willow would've been a very corny, but still, a very good gift for Nikki. Bear giving it to Nikki would've meant that he cares about her wishes and aspirations more than he does about his crush on her. A symbolic "I really care about you, but I can see you are unhappy here. If following your dreams means moving away from here, I understand"

And you know what she would've wished for? To become a successful writer of course! And if Bear really loved her, he would have been happy with that.

But no, he symbolically and literally takes away the magical gift that was meant for her, and uses it to fulfill his selfish desire.

If Nikki's wish isn't to be with him, he isnt giving her a choice
