Mission Accomplished :)
Evaluation
Now that the project has been completed. I’ve looked back over my blog and my final piece and had a think about what worked and what didn’t work.
I think the art style worked really well, I feel like I managed to follow closely in the style of Rub Rabbits, which is exactly the kind of look I was going for. I think if anything was off about the art style it was more the lack of detail I gave the surrounding area, however due to time restrictions I didn’t have enough time to go into much more detail than I did. I would also have spent more time refining the slides themselves as a few of them were of a lesser quality than the rest.
I felt the plot itself was quite well thought of and was rather interesting for audiences. However I think that the way I executed was the problem. Looking at the finished product a few things could improve on are how many slides there actually are, I feel like i should have included more to improve the detail and make it overall easier to understand. I also feel that the lack of dialog and the way it was added to the storyboard itself was quite ineffective and I should have both made it easier to see but also have had more of it.
If I were to do the project again I would defiantly have left myself more time however in that respect it was quite out of my hands as my job has had me working 25+ hours a week sometimes over 30 and after having asked several time for less hours and to work my contracted hours I have decided to hand in my notice and leave to focus more on my university work.
I would also have learnt After Effects to a higher standard before beginning the project, but I suppose that’s what i’m studying the course for, to learn.
Overall I do feel the project was a success as I have learnt quite a bit about both after effects and planning camera angle/story plots while expressing my own ideas and art style.
Finished product. For my first proper time in After Effects I don’t think it’s all too bad! The Home Invasion. Here she is!
Almost there!
Making a lot of transformations to get a smoother switch for scenes 9 and 10. Since their both in a very similar position and setting it looks a lot better with a smooth transaction from scene to scene.
Finally into editing. Would be fine if the people behind me in this room would stop being so loud! Can’t even think. Nevermind. The sooner I run through this the better! So far so good :)
Progression Example
Heres an example of the progression from rough sketch to finished paint art. I’m loving this shot not going to lie. I think it looks pretty cool.
Heres a group of my edits. I’m pretty happy with them. Some are much better quality than others but I’ve done the best I can. If i wasn’t so out of time I could fine tune them but otherwise i’m pretty happy. It’s just time to edit them in aftereffects now :)
Me right now
5 Hours till uni closes... Time to edit!
8 Hours left! HELP!!!
With the deadline crunching down I need to speed my paint up. I have one more scene to paint and then we’re straight back into aftereffects for the edit. WISH ME LUCK!!!
Side by sides of my original photography, My finished scene and my inspiration!
Loving this style!
The result after filling. Loving the art style. The next comes later when moving into aftereffects. But art wise, I feel like i followed my inspiration perfectly. Definitely excited for the final product. I love the simplistic style. This is technically two shots after zooming. I’m so hype to animate this scene now. HERE WE GO!
Progress. I’ve combined my 1st and second image to make the one scene. Now that the outlines are in, it’s time to fill.
Using my Fiancee as a model for my story board slides. Changing the hair style and clothing to show the swaps in characters due to the fact that i’m using silhouettes I’m going to do everything (Person wise) in black apart from Hair and Shirt to show the difference between each character.
This is the start of the final thing. Gearing up for the finale. Time is now against me but I’m going to give it all i’ve got.
I’ve followed my drawn out plan to the last detail. the shots, the story. If need be I’ll edit after i’ve began to put the film together.
Finally got that shot plan all in order. I want to produce my actual storyboard almost exactly like this however have more shot transitions, zooms and pans. However most of those can only be determined once I’ve actually moved the project into either after effects or premiere tomorrow. Well... technically today because it is 00:41.
