If it makes you feel any better, he did break off a part of himself specifically to love and care for her. And then he got jealous of that part and brutally reabsorbed it.

Wait, isn't there a part of him he broke off for you? How is that piece doing?

i feel like him only being able to care for her through pieces of himself he kills later makes it worse

Rose greets Avery, a small smile appearing on their face as they do so, though the smile didn't do any good at masking the tiredness in her voice. However, Rose hoped that it distracts from the fact that they look like they have been surviving in the wilderness

"I know you probably still need more time after everything."

Rose says, her gaze drifting away from Avery. A look of melancholy filling her eyes at the thought of their previous conversation.

"...hopefully I'm not being too much of a bother to you. I'm sorry if I am, but..I don't really have anyone else to go to right now other than you."

Rose rub the back of their neck awkwardly.

"Also, umm..if it's alright could I ask another favor from you?"

Avery smiles at them, though concern at her rough appearance and tired voice is clear in his eyes. He hopes, for their sake, the reason for all of this isn’t the King.

“Hey Rose! You’re not being a bother, I promise. You’re my friend.”

He nods, trying to push down more of the worry that’s trying to worm its way into his chest.

“Of course! What’s up?”

I retract my previous ask I thought Avery had turned full on cat and not just standard cat boy. I had the wrong impression.

i mean he’s become more cat as the arc’s gone on lol i just keep calling it catboy avery

he has ears and a tail, handpaws and feetpaws, whiskers, a cat nose, fur, the whole shebang

he’s also to the point of being scruffable!!
