Need You as You Need Me
fraidyflyer:
Seeing him land, Petrie noticed the wind blew the toxic fumes away from where they landed, which was good, at the very least. At first, he didnât respond for a moment, dark brown eyes stared down at the ground. Memories flooding his mind of the events prior. Steeling himself, he gently takes his uncleâs claws into his, still not looking up.
Like pulling out a thorn, it needed to be done quickly and as painless as possible.
ââŠOne of the elders thatâs afflictedâŠand were the first to get sickâŠâ
Claws tighten their grip. Eyes squeeze shut, only to reopen with sincerity.
ââŠMom was one of them. First, it was just dizziness and the occasionalâŠlosing her food, but by the time I left, she-â
Subtle body shakes.
â-didnât even know who I was.â
The older flyer blinked when his claws were held, delivering a small reassuring squeeze before listening-
...
Oh no.Â
âPetrie...â Pterano chirped quietly, gaze turning to look towards the barren expanse...familiar surroundings, but apparently not familiar folks soon awaiting them. His sister- losing her mind? In a way, at least...how could she forget the appearance of her own son? Would the same stay true for him? ...he nodded, hollow tone returning to that sheer determined twang he always seemed to carry. It was welcoming and familiar.
âSheâll get better. Weâll find a way to make her better.â he insisted, wrapping a wing around his nephew for a brief moment, delivering a tight hug before letting go, âDonât worry. Sheâs...tough, you know? I remember her getting ill in her youth...but she always bounced back before the rest of the clutch! â He chuckled,
âIâll never forget her flying around the den on that cold, freezing morning... chattering about finding berries of all things, whilethe rest of us just nursed sore heads and aching bellies!âÂ
Need You as You Need Me
fraidyflyer:
The only things Petrie would say during that flight was, which direction to go next. Even so, it was far and few, due to how both flyers knew the way to the valley by almost pitch perfect photographic memory.
The whole time flying, thoughts of the valley and what to do next lied heavily on the younger flyerâs conscious. He found his uncle, he could unite his family, save the valley with his Uncleâs expertise about navigation in the Mysterious Beyond.
How could he reunite anyone, if his mother wouldnât even recognize who they were? He swore these days, she always confused Petrie with Pterano, sometimes even his own father, despite not looking anything like him.Â
When he began to see familiar sightsâŠand even inhale familiar scents, something else lingered in the atmosphere in a most unpleasant way, a toxic scent that became stronger the closer they came to the valley. Petrie made a twisted, disgusted expression.
âAgh, itâs getting stronger! Even worse than before I left.â
Petrie eyed a ledge of a mountain, it seemed stable enough. Theyâve come this farâŠ
âUncle, letâs go on the side of this mountain, thereâs something else you need know before we go in there.â
ââ> Pterano caught the ever-increasing bitter taste in the air and frowned...no, no- that indeed didn't seem right...nothing like he had ever sensed before. Not even the amount of rot and dryness following a Leaf-Gobbler epidemic could compare to the oppressiveness of this...whatever it was. This cannot be good. ... The older Flyer glanced at the ledge as they grew near, following after his Nephew with a semi-relieved sigh, âOh, good...a break would be nice...Mmm?-â He tilted his head with genuine concern, landing on the stone with a stretch of his wings,Â
â-what is it, Petrie?âÂ
Need You as You Need Me
fraidyflyer:
Dark eyes scanned the ground below and ahead as Petrie took advantage of the air currents to glide easily, which was a remarkable change from the windy currents and bad weather he faced to reach his Uncle.Â
Petrie smirked at the compliment, raising his wings as the air currents lifted him higher, took the momentum to empathize how much better of a flyer he became. When Pterano spoke further, Petrieâs smile disappeared, taken aback by elder maleâs words. So much so, he takes a quick glance back, both brow ridges raised, surprised.
Petrie was silent, blinking as though unbelieving of the otherâs words. Only when he saw he was getting close to a mountain, his breath hitched, rose up and tried to focus ahead of them. He blinked away the wetness that dared to leak from his eyes, tried to steel himself. This wasnât a good time to get emotional now. He had to keep going.
âWellâŠwhat else is there to be said? When itâs the only thing you haveâŠyou do everything you can to protect and take care of it.âÂ
ââ>Â âIndeed, indeed...â Pterano hummed, meeting his nephewâs surprised glance with his own calm, level one.Â
There had not been a single subtle hint of vanity in that comment. It was a compliment en full, rare for the somewhat egotistical Pterosaur, sure, but he had said it all the same. Â
...
The majority of the flight was without shared words. The two of them kept good pace with one another, crossing over plains and plateaus, even the odd dormant fire-spitting mountain...the dire circumstances keeping the energy in their wings, set due course for the Valley. ...The familiar scenery that began to rear up in front of Pterano brought back painful waves of nostalgia. Was it this, also, that kept him from returning before? Fear of disappointment, fear of the familiar...being alone with his thoughts had left him to ponder over many a thing. He just hoped, and prayed, he could be better this time.Â
dangers-and-magic:
âPretty sure I ainât got a beak.â His clawed arm held the muzzle, giving pressure to show it was indeed flesh underneath scales. âAs from where I come fromâŠI guess a cave would do. I be Jarangar. What be your name, flier with the beak?â The Aerodactyl hadnât seen another roaming âdinosaurâ in a long while. âI be what some call âAerodactylâ.â
ââ> Pterano tapped on his own maw in response, blinking with surprise as the other before nodding, âAh, I see! Sorry, sorry...still, it is quite impressive!â â Jarrangar...? Aero-dactyl?â he chirped out, testing the strange names on his beak, nodding again with a smile lighting up his face, âWell, it is a pleasure to meet you, Jarrangar! Always good to meet new knights of the sky... âÂ
âAs for me, the nameâs Pterano. Some call me a Flyer, others - if I am so permitted to divulge - the great leader!â

The female flyer tilted her head at the other male inquiringly, unsure what to make of this tale. Before she probably would have just laughed out loud at the absurdity of it, but considering all these strange things that were happening to herâŠshe thought better than to dismiss this.
âThis "flyerâ youâre talking about, what else did you notice about it?â
The younger female in question had a shorter crest, a Pteranodon like the other, but while her wings, feet, and crest were dark brown, her body was a tawny color with a cream underbelly. Her eyes shown a vivid green that intently paid attention to the orator.
ââ> âOh? Hm, well...Perhaps its glowing yellow eyes! Dreadfully ugly all around, you see? Eugh, I can hardly rack my skull enough to bear and think about it...âÂ
Pterano made an almost comical shuddering motion, wrapping his wings around himself before chuckling.Â
It was always good to have an audience...one of a Flyer, as well! She had certainly been a good listener. It reminded him of the days when heâd told stories to the hatchlings, or that one band of migratory Flyers he tagged along with just a good few months back...
He then took care in making a lavish bow, head tilting inquisitively in her direction,Â
âBut enough of my tales! What about you, madam? Experienced any harrowing scenarios lately?â Â
â ( fraidyflyer; for that muse sleeping on the other meme, sorry if you're not taking these, I just thought it would be cute :3 )
Cute indeed! ))

dangers-and-magic:
A tall grey creature with purple webbing looked at the other. It looked at the pointed tail. It was no spike for sure. âWell, it ainât me. I ainât in the mood for a spiked tail.â The grey flier spoke. âThough I can make âdreadfulâ noises when I get in a bad mood.â It said, showing the rows of pointed teeth. âBut how would you get vengeance on that? Hopefully not by fighting. Iâd hate to see those wings loose their prime.â
ââ> âAh, youâre too kind.â Pterano hummed, appreciating the comment, âI would as well! Wasnât much of a scuffle, donât worry, merely chased it off...with a good pecking! I donât often risk my good looks, but ah...â A wave of his wing dismissively, âWell- enough of that- Iâm sure you get the idea...So! Where do you hark from, stranger? Iâve never seen a beak like yours before!â He glanced at the tail briefly...Huh, pointed- much like someone he once knew...But the head shape didnât match up, nor the wings, that was for sure. Nope, not a Rhamphorhynchus.Â
blueyedxmoness:Â
She stared for a great while, not exactly sure what she was seeing or what she was hearing. Claudia never thought the next pit stop on her journey would be in prehistoric times; much less with a talking dinosaur that looked like he came from an old cartoon show.Â
âUh⊠rightâŠâ She said as she kept one of her hands on one of her backpack straps. The poor young woman was completely dumbfounded and wasnât sure if she should take this guy seriously or not. âThat honestly doesnât sound like any dinosaur Iâve heard of if you want me to be honest,â she said rather bluntly.
ââ> âOh, oh! But of course there is! The Mysterious Beyond is a very broad and- ah...Well, mysterious place, is it not?â Pterano clacked his beak together and crossed his arms, looking to the rather strange landwalker (err, what was their name again?...Oh, âClaudiaâ, right.) with a series of vigorous nods.
It wasnât often when he found a new face, especially one so...Peculiar. But she didnât have sharp teeth- and that was all he needed to start making acquaintance. Ah, strangers! No vision, no leader to guide them... He could fix that! It was fortunate enough that they hadnât brushed him off by now. Maybe lady luck was on his side today, after all... âYouâre new here, yes? Have no fear- friend! I can guide you to a safe place! Come along, now!â
The sound I made in excitement when I saw Pterano had returned....
ââ>âExcited to see me return? Why- that is most certainly a compliment I havenât received in a while!â â...Not like I donât have a few admirers already- o-of course!âÂ
_______
(( ooc: Iâm happy to have brought him back! ;w; ))Â
Open
ââ> âIt was absolutely horrific- I tell you! Nearly lost half my wing...Strange looking thing- bulbous like a Spike-Tail- and it seemed to have sharp teeth for a head! Dreadful noise, too...Youâd think a creature of the skies would have more manners!â âThough, rest assured I showed it a lesson! Nothing can escape my vengeance- no sir!âÂ
"Whatever. So, how's that cold fire power been working for you? Do those dumb plant eaters all bow down before the ever Great, Important Pterano?" He mocked, while circling the other like a predator surrounding his prey.
ââ> âYou know as well as I do how that plan went!â Pterano snapped, flashing an indignant gaze on the other even as they circled around him. Ah, good old classic Pterano: Always taking insults oh-so seriously...âHave you come here merely to mock me, Sierra? You seem to have forgotten it was also you whom were tricked by those mendacious Rainbow Faces!â Raising his claws into the air, the older Flyer began to mimic the rock-smashing motion exhibited from oh so long ago- ââGive me the power! Give it to me!â Phah! Fools- all three of us! Canât you see? We are even!â

notabat-archived:
Petrie glanced at the sky as well, seeing the sunâs rays attempted to peak through the dreary clouds that still occupied the sky, but they were slowly receding from the downpour.Â
While glad he was able to convince Pterano to help, there was still a lurking thought in Petrieâs conscious. It occupied during his sleep and practically every waking moment as he took on the role of a protector for his sick, split family.
The state of his mother, and how she was one of the first to be affected by the poison. She got worse instead of better even after all the time and care Petrie and his siblings spent aiding her. It was her declining health that made Petrie less optimistic about the state of affairs.Â
Never the less, he smirked at Pteranoâs eloquent and theatrical mannerisms. So intent he was on finding the other male flyer and possible new home for the denizens of the Valley, he almost forgot how his uncle could act. It was nice to find out that some things stayed the same. And it was kind of a coincidence that he of all fliers was going to be the one to lead his uncle.
âAâright,â Petrie exhaled lightly. âGreat Valley here we come.â
With one more inhale, Petrie readied himself, took off from the branch, flying in midair, making sure his uncle wasnât too far behind him.
ââ> The branch itself bent slightly as Pterano practically vaulted himself from it using his foreclaws, both flyers ascending to the air with powerful flaps of their wings...the older Flyer following calmly behind his nephew, happy to finally be able to stretch his muscles again. Sky Water was oh-such a drag at times for a creature most comfortable in the sky. âIt is remarkable to see you flying this high,â He complimented at one point with a small laugh, gazing down at the criss-crossing ribbons of a river, a couple of sharp mountains to their left... âI hope you know Iâm proud of you. You truly care about your friends and family.â
