Antelope Valley Fair

http://www.avfair.com Antelope Valley Fair's roots go back to 1895, when the Antelope Valley Association sponsored a two-day celebration for area ranchers and farmers. The first organized Harvest Festival took place in 1931, featuring Hollywood entertainers. In 1934, a "field day" was held with competitions among local ranchers and farmers at the Antelope Valley High School football field. The competitions in following years featured friendly contests between Eastsiders and Westsiders, including women, in cow milking, hay loading and others. This was the forerunner to the Rural Olympics that is the fair’s signature event. The Antelope Valley Fair Association was formed September 1, 1938 and held its first meeting on December 5, 1938. At this meeting the Association officers were authorized to purchase eighty acres of land at a total price of $2,800, the terms being $1,000 down, with the balance to be paid at the rate of $300 per year. Of course, the problem that immediately arose was the lack of funds to purchase the land. All the ranchers in the Valley were approached and each donated a ton of hay. The truckers of the Valley hauled the hay to Lancaster, and the merchants of the Valley made cash contributions toward the fund. Hay buyers from all over Southern California were invited to come up and bid on the hay to the highest bidder. Mr. Henry Clark of Bakersfield was asked to auction the hay to the highest bidder. With the funds raised, the grounds were purchased. Those grounds were the home of the fair until September 2003 when it moved to its new quarters on Avenue H at the freeway.

Oscar Meyer Weinermobile visits Bark in the Park, Lancaster CA

Chris Spicher with AVNice/ AVFlorist visits and tours the World Famous Oscar Meyer vehicle. The Weinermobile was sandwiched into a nice shady spot in Lancaster, CA at the annual Bark in the Park. A huge dog friendly event, and the Hot Dogs were friendly too.

Lancaster Flea Market, Ramon and Anna

The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce organizes the flea market for operating funds and scholarship monies. The flea market is held the first sunday of may and october to take advantage of the beautiful high desert weather. Ramon Ortega and Anna Zarley are on the Chamber staff.  Objectives:   1. To develop positive character traits in youth.

  Junior Ethics Training & DNA Testing

JUNIOR LARGE LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS WITHOUT A CURRENT ETHICS CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW OR SELL AN ANIMAL IN THE 2012 FAIR. The class is valid 5 years from the date (month and day) of which the class was taken.

All concerts begin at 7:30pm except the 8/19 Concert; Rural Olympics & 8/26 Demo Derby-they begin at 6pm.   A 10% service charge will be added to all tickets sold, both online and at the box office.

*8/19 concert tickets will be sold Pre-Fair at avfair.com thru 8/16 AND all AV Vallarta Supermarkets 7/27 thru 8/16 for $20 each. Youth ticket will be $6 on-line and at Vallarta Supermarkets until 8/16.

Children occupying seats must have a ticket. Children 3 years old and younger are Free with paid Adult.

Grandstand seating is included with the purchase of General Admission for these concerts on a first come, first seat basis.

LANCASTER, CA. Homeowners looking for new ways to bring efficiency and style to their properties are encouraged to attend the 24th annual Antelope Valley Fair Home Show presented by Rally Cadillac, Buick, GMC. The Home Show this year offers new ideas, vendors and opportunities for home enthusiasts.

The three-day event begins on Friday, March 16th: Noon-6pm, Saturday, March 17th: 9am-6pm and Sunday, March 18th: 9am-5pm. Admission is FREE, parking: $5.00.
