It's Everyone Has a Price by sugarnon - Charles is a bright college student with too many jobs and too few funds. After being cut off by his stepfather, he must pay not only his own bills but his sister’s boarding school tuition. A proposition from a wealthy older man gives him the quick cash he needs–and leads to an offer he doesn’t want to refuse. - Thank you so much!!!
@gerec was it unfinished? I have a copy of an unfinished version from 2013, so if it was finished after that I’m afraid I don’t have the entire fic. Here’s what I do have though. xxxooo
heteronormativity is wild. Charles and Erik will be standing there and they’ll be crying because Charles just unearthed one of Erik’s only remaining happy memories after almost two decades of nothing but pain and suffering. and it will be the only time at any point in any of the movies that Erik shows that kind of vulnerability, something far more emotional and tragic and painful and soft and loving than any scene between him and his female love interests.
and Erik will be one of the only people who reacts to Charles’s power with awe and curiosity and joy instead of fear. because he’s not scared of Charles being in his head for his sake, he’s scared of it for CHARLES’S sake (which is subtext … but also not? Erik refers to himself as a monster multiple times and it’s not something he’s proud it’s not a threat he holds over other people of it’s the result of pain and torture and loss and trauma. it’s what he was turned into now what he is. and the one time he tells Charles to stay out of his head it’s in response to Charles telling him he knows everything about him. “so you know to stay out of my head.” it’s not a threat it’s “so you already know what a monster I am.”)
because if Charles is in his head than Charles knows he’s a monster. and he doesn’t care. he doesn’t even think he’s a monster at all. he thinks he’s amazing and wonderful and good. Erik doesn’t care that Charles could control him it’s not a thought in his head. Charles knows everything about him and Charles doesn’t run and even Erik doesn’t kno whow much that’s worth to him.
and everyone else who finds out about Charles’s power is scared of him (rightly, he’s incredibly powerful) but it’s something that’s ironically very isolating from him because people are scared of what he’ll do to their minds and what he’ll do without them knowing, so they don’t trust him, they don’t want to be close with him. even Raven, his surrogate sister, tells him repeatedly to stay out of her head and doesn’t seem to trust him entirely. but Erik does he trusts him, Erik doesn’t mind that he’s in his head, Erik seems to WANT him there. and they’re standing there and they’re crying and it’s a beautiful memory and it’s the first time Erik’s been this close with someone since his family died and it’s the first time Charles has had someone know about his power and not fear him and they’re crying
and some people just. see that and think “oh yeah perfectly heterosexual.” what is it like.
once again I’m bringing up the fact that erik whose entire trauma stems from a lack of agency and is so furiously independant he’s nearly destroyed the world multiple times over it, LET charles fully control his mind and body towards the end of dofp. and didn’t even fight afterwards. they were in an antagonistic phase at the time. erik’s entire reaction was eh might as well. the level of TRUST to let a person you DON’T EVEN PARTICULARLY LIKE AT THE MOMENT DO THAT—

Watching X-Men: First Class Deleted Scenes is so funny to me because half of the deleted scenes are of Moira and Charles flirting meaning that the editors watched the entire movie and then decided to cut basically all the scenes of the main “couple” flirting and yet saw Charles and Erik being gay and obviously in love and were just like yes we are absolutely keeping these in the movies, no doubt about it, yes we are even including a scene where they go (on a date) and sit on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial by themselves playing chess with Charles staring at Erik talking while sitting like that for like 10 seconds because cinema
There are interviews where the filmmakers literally said they cut the Moira scenes because it took away from Charles’ and Erik’s relationship.
