Mikkelsen’s sense of his own talent could be seen as arrogant, and sometimes he can be hilariously full of himself (“I was very fast and very talented,” he tells me of his years as a dancer). But there is something refreshingly honest about it. There is nothing polished or guarded about him. He knows he is good, and he says so.

He is! The very first panel is in Nyhavn. 

To briefly summarize his origin, he’s a happy Dane with a happy little life until his pregnant wife Adria suddenly collapses. She’s in a coma for months until they come in and tell (a very bearded, like King Arthur) Kaecilius that his wife is dead, along with their unborn son. And so he just kinda loses it. Gives up on life, gets trashes, gets into fights in pubs. 

He’s approached by Baron Mordo who kind of invites him into the fold and he starts training with The Ancient One and the rest of the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Now while he’s really good at it, and at combat, he’s basically only training there with the hopes that she will teach him how to use the mystics to get his wife and son back to life. And she’s like NO, that is not what I said, I said I’d show you the mystics so you could move on with your life, not change the past.

And he’s like lol fuck you bitch, and starts researching into the darker aspects of mysticism, he lures in some of the less devoted trainees and after training in secret, they attack and steal a book that might hold the secrets he needs to get his wife and son back.

Gotta share this, because this weekend I met my favourite actor. They say you should never meet your idols…but I can honestly say that Mads Mikkelsen lived up to my expectations. He is a lovely guy. Very friendly and approachable. He had a laugh with everyone at the photoshoot, and was such a good sport when people asked him to pose in silly ways/wearing headpieces etc.  And yes, he’s even more handsome in person ;D
