Replacing  a Giant

Justice Scalia was (if nothing else) was and is a well respected man on both sides of the political aisle. His unexpected death was devastating and the search for his replacement has been a heavily contested issue. But listen to a news report on his potential successors and you will hear not what these candidates stand for nor what they plan on doing in office. Instead the only thing that you will hear is that these candidates are all female and of various races minorities. While a female minority supreme court justice being appointed is a victory for their respective races and gender that is all it is. Being a minority dose not qualify you for an appointment to the supreme court alone. Yet we only seem to be interested in the color of their skin. Why? Why do we allow this to be what the conversation revolves around? While representation of every race matters, how they will direct our nation; for the sake of all races must take precedent. It is the responsibility of every news outlet to properly report these issues to the American people.

Equality and The Pro Life Issue

Recently Republicans during a national debate brought up abortion as a leading issue. All of them claimed to be Pro-Life and all said they were interested in defunding Planned Parenthood. But what the Republicans couldn't agree on is to what degree they were going to limit abortion. Some said they would completely abolish it and others said they were willing to make exceptions. Namely on babies born out of incest or rape. They insisted that babies born in these situations were too hard on the mother to carry to term. This sentiment has become a wide spread view among the Republican party. They say that the mothers will suffer extreme amounts of emotional damage and while this may true there is another party that will suffer far more than the mothers: The children. These children are already damned to a life without a father and possibly without a mother, what right do we have to rob them of life on top of all the pain they will suffer already? What right do we have to say that these children are somehow lesser than the ones that Pro-Life Republicans claim to want to save? Is this not discrimination? Would it be morally right to discriminate against the children already born in these situations? Whichever side of the debate you fall on this fact should be universally agreed on. If life matters than all life matters no reason is a good enough reason to justify the killing of people just because of the situation they are born into. This logic is just as morally wrong as killing a child on the basis of race or gender. 

If life matters life matters. Thats it. No buts no loop holes.

Substance Abuse: Another Generation Lost

A long time of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it the appearance of being right -Thomas Pain’s Common Sense. 

Cocaine, once thought to be medically beneficial. After all how could something that makes you feel so good be unhealthy?  So it was given out by the truck load to consumers. Everyone was trying Cocaine, they literally couldn't get enough. Once people figured out how it caused everything from repository failure to heart attacks, they figured it wouldn't be the best thing to give to children anymore.

Tobacco kills Six-Million people a year according to the World Health Organization. Almost everyone knows someone who has battled and many times died from cancer. Tobacco almost single handedly made this disease an epidemic. But from the 1400′s all the way up to 1940′s no one had any idea how bad it was for you and it wasn't until recently that people cared enough to do something. 

These substances once thought perfectly safe are now known to be the blight of our generation. But the logic used to justify their use is still in use today.

Marijuana is being touted as the new tobacco, unfourtiently they may be more right than they realize. With a fraction of the research that tobacco has received Marijuana has been found to cause psychotic episodes and extreme addiction. The warning signs are there, but as usual people drive right by without a second thought.

E-cigs a rapidly growing in popularity. They don't have the tar or more importantly the high price of a normal cigarette so they are becoming a massively successful industry.While the long term effects are completely unknown there are theories that they could contain everything from lung eretents to carcinogens. But while we are grasping at straws to do the research nessisarry to evaluate the effects these will have on a new generation of smokers, people are running to E-cigs as a healthy alternative to tobacco. You have to wonder, after all of these “healthy” habits when are we going to realize that there is no healthy alternative?

Have you seen the faulty logic here? People think just because it’s not bad it’s good. This way of thinking is literally killing a generation. It’s only a matter of time before we find out just how bad these new “alternatives” are. When we do people will be outraged once again that something they trusted was slowly killing them and soon they'll pick up another habit and forget all about just how bad the last one was. Until eventually one finally kills them.

Music: A Beautiful Experiment

Music is simply an experiment in sound and expression.  Each new song and style an endeavor to explore what is possible. How does this make me feel is a the most important and least considered question for todays music. If we don’t continue to move forward our music will slowly go stagnant. So experiment, create, make something beautiful. They’re really is no better way to covey the paradox of joy and sadness this world brings.

Death To America (revised)

Our nation is a nation that only understands one thing. Fear. Fear of radical terrorists trying to exterminate the infidels. Fear of Russians seeking to settle old scores. Fear of childish dictators who will kill thousands to prove to the world he can. But what people don't understand is America is not a country. It’s an idea. An idea of hope and freedom. Not of people, politics or even the land we stand on. Even if any of these threats manage to occur as long as the idea of America stands than so will we. But that idea is crumbling. Its tearing at the seams and we turn a blind eye. We allow everything America stood for to be destroyed like it never existed. And that is how we as a nation will go out. Not a bang, but an apathetic sigh. We are slowly handing our freedom to an unseen force of political correctness and apathy. The ironic part of all this is the nations chanting death to America all over the world whether they are shouting it from the roof tops or scheme in the privacy of their capitals, they will not be the end of us. Our own stupidity will. We allow an entire election to be dominated be a parade of sound bytes. Quips and zings that in the end are meaningless. While the consequences of our actions completely elude us. The simple fact that we let a racist, propaganda spouting, mad man and a self proclaimed socialist, who is content to hand out anything to anyone at the expense of the hard working, even be considered for election has shown how far our nation has fallen. Our generation will go down in history as lazy ignorant slobs who didn't bother to keep Washington from burning down in flames. We won’t stand up and fight for our beliefs because we are afraid that society will judge us as haters or ignorant children. But who is this society? Does it speak for us? 

Only if you let it.
