thanks for assassinating me, that was beautiful. You're so right it fits perfectly ;w; Shadow's raw heartbreak about Sonic choosing someone else and knowing it's too late for him to confess. His regret but also him having given up with it, laying his sword down. And there's lots of lyrics that line up more with Sonic's perspective too like wishing he'd searched longer etc, and feeling like he made loads of mistakes but wanting to hide how broken he is, and how seeing Shadow reminded him of how he made those mistakes (mentioned in the latest chapter.)
Not to mention the music is just beautiful, thank you for sharing!! (This has prompted me to put together a playlist 👀)
If you want to know MY song pick for TDWM, I referenced it in Chapter 3 and it's this x3
It's less devastating but still gentle and heartbreaking and I'd say it equally reflects them both- specifically with Sonic being the 1st verse and Shadow being the 2nd verse + the small bridge about 'being too old for this'.
The chorus reflects both of them- but 'keep me a secret' being Shadow hiding his feelings about Sonic, and 'choose someone else' being Sonic marrying amy (almost like they're talking to each other).
And then in the end Shadow concluding that 'im not better than this' and Sonic wanting him to 'show me (Sonic) what im worth' because he needs Shadow's help to get back to himself.
