Licht liked to think himself more patient than the average mortal man. Considering he was an angel, descendant of the heavens and one above all else, it was only right that his patience test higher than all other beings. But even he would be swayed to admit that his patience had limits and these cultists were testing them.
The men walked to slowly towards him and when they loomed to stench of sin washed over them like an overused perfume. It was a wretched thing and yet, it was that stink that gave him what he needed to know in order to attack - how close they were, how many had come to him, even where their hands raised, ready to make sure he could be nothing short of useless when they attempted to ensnare his lover’s position as his Servamp.
“It’s hilarious that you think I’d ever really let you touch me again.” He revealed himself.
Eyes, dark, deep and angry snapped open and for a brief moment he could see their heart pound in the pulse of the fear-flickering eyes. He couldn’t help but smirk as he whirled, feet up and sent these few bastards flying across the room. Fully free of the restraints, he said nothing else as the rest of the group started to restrain him. But it was already too late.
This time Licht’s plan worked smoothly and catching eyes with the leader of this revolting collection of people, he smirked harder and licked his lips as he almost shimmered with how fast he moved to the wall that would allow Lawless his ultimate freedom.
“Your loss, devil.” He exclaimed before bringing down his full fury into the bricks and as they collapsed, the water that ran went dry as it flowed out onto the island they had been taken to and in his smug arrogance, Licht landed too close to the leader who had crazily designed to cause this utter irritation to both Lawless and himself.
The man instantly lunged, catching Licht off guard with only a second for Lawless- should he be able to- to interfere and help.
Hyde kept his head down at first, just to be sure that he didn’t make a move too soon, but hearing his Eve speak caused a broad, proud smirk to stretch across his face. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the pair of cultists hesitate, and he knew then that it was too late for them. That mistake was going to cost them big time.
He looked up at the moment of impact, and were it not for the serious nature of the situation, he would have pumped his fist in the air and cheered Licht on. The facade he’d worn up until only seconds ago was gone, almost as if it had never existed, and instead his eyes were alight with determination and excitement. His smile was wide, flashing his fangs to the cultist leader staring at him in shock. It was finally payback time, and he and his Eve were going to come out on top for sure!
Before the leader could react, a portion of the wall next to Hyde came crashing down under the force of his Eve’s boots, cutting off the flowing water that barred him from his escape. He would have shouted his thanks, but instead, those words would have to be saved for later. He saw the cultist lunge forward, and without even thinking, he burst out of his cage and made a grab for Licht’s hoodie to yank his boyfriend out of harm’s way. His sabre appeared in his right hand in the same breath, and he brandished it for an attack. Already positioned forward to stop the incoming blow, he thrust the sharp end of his blade straight through the leader’s chest; a direct pierce through the heart.
The man died almost instantly, and Hyde withdrew his sword, kicking the corpse down into the space where water once flowed. The remaining cultists charged towards he and Licht in a frenzy upon seeing their leader fall, and he wasted no time in getting rid of the first one to come within range of his blade.
“Lord, what fools these mortals be! You haven’t fallen to them yet, right, Angel-chan?~ Let’s finish them and get out of here!”

Sleep wasn’t ultimately necessary for a Servamp or a vampire in general, it was not like they were a creature that could die from a lack of resting but he still felt compelled to slumber when his body was full on the almost intoxicating-suffocating feast of feelings he had gorged himself on at his master’s request - God forbid Lawless ever could know he thought such a thing.
“Don’t wake me up.” He said dangerously low, shifting.
While still close enough to Lawless to have the other caged in, he longed for a closer comfort and not one to deny himself his desires, he tightened the hold he had over his Eve; Eve: a being purer than he right then and yet - he leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to Lawless’ ear, he was almost positive, that of the two of them, he was still the angelic one, even when infected with a demon’s sin.
He didn’t say goodnight to Lawless after that. Barely muttered anything besides soft sounding slurps of him cleaning out the taste of blood in his mouth. A sweet taste he would admit but not one he would want to wake up to. He lowered his head so that their heads sat together comfortable once more and sagged in body weight against Lawless.
It was strange to be the cold-blooded one for once, he thought suddenly while on the verge of drifting off. He almost felt apologetic had he truly thought the chill of his body could outside the human heat of Lawless’. Pursing his lips together, the determination to sleep was beginning to fade and the irritating plethora of useless thoughts assaulted his brain until suddenly, he tch’d.
“Oi, useless rat. I can’t sleep like this, take me the bedroom.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it, Angel-chan.~”
The words were a soft, playful murmur into the crook of Licht’s neck; nothing teasing or mocking, and yet not fearful either. Hyde was slowly falling asleep, and he didn’t particularly want to move now that he’d made himself comfortable either, so he had no problem agreeing to his Servamp’s demand. The kiss to his ear was unexpected; a pleasant surprise that left a light, cool tingle on his skin and brought out a content sigh of approval.
Tilting his head slightly, he nuzzled his face into the crook of Licht’s neck and let his lips brush over the skin as his way of returning the kiss. He felt no urge to bite, as he didn’t have fangs to sink beneath the skin at the moment, but that wouldn’t stop him from showing affection as he pleased.
A comfortable quiet settled around them, and he clung to Licht, not minding the slight chill he felt from being so close to the other male. His hold soon relaxed, sleep creeping up on him and loosening his grip until an unexpected sound nearly made him jump. The silence and lull of sleep broken, he flinched and tried to sit up straighter, lifting his head to peer at the vampire in his arms.
“Lichtan, I...”
Hyde swallowed thickly, hesitating. Human though he was, he still wanted to do as he was told, and yet he wasn’t so sure that he could. He was still stronger than most humans as an Eve, but nowhere near as strong as he been as a Servamp. On top of that, Licht had drank a decent amount of his blood—not too much, obviously, but enough that he should probably be resting instead of trying to push himself. He’d been human once before, but that was centuries ago, and he literally couldn’t remember his own strength. But...he already had an idea of what Licht might say if he said no, and he still wanted to try.
Sighing, he gathered tension in his muscles and tried to push himself up off the couch, lifting Licht with him in one fluid motion. To his surprise, it worked, and he quickly moved his hands to support and cup the vampire’s backside to prevent any chance of a fall. All traces of his uncertainty disappeared, and he grinned.
“To the bedroom it is! Let’s go, Engel.~”
Without waiting for any sort of response, he stepped away from the couch and walked around it, heading straight for Licht’s—now more or less their—bedroom. He couldn’t go as fast as he normally would, but nor was it impossible as he’d first feared. Whenever he made it into the room, he hurried to sit down on the side of the bed and let out a huff of breath, still holding his boyfriend in his lap. After a moment’s consideration, he wriggled backward closer to the middle of the bed, then eased himself down onto his side to rest his head on a pillow, taking Licht with him.
“Better, Angel-chan?”
engelsklavier:
“Hn.” Licht fell silent.
For a period, he laid himself over Lawless, knees still firmly either side of their hips, but not so tightly as if to cause bruising anymore. Instead, Licht just let his body relax. One hand slipped down to their, Lawless’ waist, lightly laying across it, while he let his head fall down onto Lawless’ shoulder.
From here, he could see the veins throbbing, smell the strong scent of desire within the blood - not at all sexual desire but rather, the affection Lawless felt for him and he couldn’t help himself; he blushed and gulped, squeezing his eyes shut. It was a little bit overwhelming, all of this if he were honest.
But with Lawless - no, Hyde beside him, Licht knew everything would be alright.
“I’m sleepy,” he said, although perhaps sleepy wasn’t so much correct as sated was. He felt like he had after a filling meal when he was human and he supposed the situation wasn’t different. Only, that was wrong, everything was different. Hyde wasn’t his meal, he was his lover. His Servamp. His…
Eve?
Flustered, he ducked his head into Hyde’s neck, cutely hiding himself away as the heat of his blush burned against the soft heat of Hyde’s own skin. “Let me sleep here.” He commanded, nipping at Hyde’s skin with only his lips, reflexively squeezing the hold he had on Hyde’s waist.
He opened his eyes and peered behind the sofa towards the back side of the hotel suite’s living area and stared towards their bedrooms. Well, bedroom and clung tighter, warning Hyde not to try moving or suggesting that if he were sleepy they should go to bed. He didn’t want that. He wanted this.
To stay here, wrapped up in Hyde’s scent, his warmth, his honest humanity and to lose himself to this shitty, idiotic devil that was doing a really good job at pretending to be a human - an angel. He was almost so angelic, that Licht was almost seduced into telling the other as such.
Normally, Hyde would have complained about the atmosphere being too quiet. He preferred talking and activity most of the time, but now—for Licht—he could and would make an exception. They didn’t always need words anyway; especially not now that their bond ran deeper than he’d once thought possible.
Feeling Licht begin to relax, he did the same, though his arms stayed securely around his boyfriend’s waist. His body sank further into the softness of the sofa, and he tugged Licht with him, refusing to let go. He wasn’t the Servamp of Greed for the moment, but he still knew what he wanted, and what he wanted was already on his lap and in his arms. Licht—or rather, Engel—was his, and he couldn’t stop smiling.
A quiet chuckle rumbled in his throat, and he grinned in understanding. “Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s like when you feel full after eating, but still different and satisfying in its own way, right?”
He almost made a comment about how cute Licht’s flustered behavior was, but the command and subsequent nip to his skin—more of a kiss, really—was enough to halt that thought for the moment. He noticed the squeeze too, and it was obvious to him that there was another unspoken command in the gesture. Smiling to himself, he quirked his lips into a light, teasing smirk and offered a playful retort. “You know, Lichtan, I should be the one giving orders right now, but I’ll be obedient this time. We can stay right here. I won’t make you move.”
Truthfully, Hyde didn’t want to move either. He was surrounded by Licht’s warmth and familiar scent, and he was in no hurry to give up the sense of pure comfort and love that both gave him. Sleeping was best done in a bed, but if they moved, he feared the moment wouldn’t be quite the same anymore. It was perfect as it was, and he wanted to savor it and bask in the bond he could feel between them.
Shifting his head slightly, he rested his chin against Licht’s shoulder and closed his eyes. Being an Eve allowed his body to withstand more than the average human, as did being so near to his Servamp—still an unusual thought, but true nonetheless—but Licht had drank his blood multiple times, and a nap seemed like a great way to recover, especially since taking a nap now also meant he could hold his boyfriend close at the same time.

It was too much. But not in a way that Licht disliked it.
Hyde’s emotions intertwined thickly with his own and while they were suffocating, it was a feeling he would take to his grave happily. Threading his fingers into Hyde’s hair, he guided Hyde’s head beneath his chin despite his shaky panting and looked across the room with glazed over eyes.
It wasn’t until he let his eyelids fall shut that he was able to level out his breathing and when he tried to talk, the first thing to happen was a whimper and his hips shifted forward. Pulling back, he slid his hands down to Hyde’s cheeks and guided Hyde once more into facing him.
“You’re a devil. Annoying, loud and really irritating but to have feelings like these, you can not be bad,” he told the other slowly. Leaning in to close the gap, Licht gently placed his tender lips over Hyde’s – not quite moving them but rather holding them still as a gesture of love, trying to give up control to Hyde; showing off his ultimate trust.
But, being impatient as he was, he did move his lips only to say,
The glow of his vampire-red eyes was less a threatening glare and more a welcoming burst of affection. The warmth in them read like a book of his own feelings and Licht swallowed delicately, almost nervously.
Licht was not one to show a lack of confidence, but right then, with Hyde, he truly understood that this was his first love – and hopefully, his last and no matter what his personality might be, such a thing was desperately frightening.
“I love you so much.”
It wasn’t until his head rested against Licht’s chest that Hyde realized how vulnerable he had made himself.
Physically, he was perfectly fine, save for the bite marks on his neck and the blood loss that came with them—something he had directly said he wanted. Perhaps there were finger-shaped bruises on his hips, but those didn’t bother him either. He was essentially trapped and cornered by a vampire, but he wasn’t scared; not truly. He was human, but he was also an Eve. He would still heal faster than the average human, and if he really felt the need to do so, he could order Licht to back off and give him some space.
That was a command he never wanted to give, nor did he believe he would ever need to give it.
No, he wasn’t physically vulnerable in a way that worried him—he was emotionally vulnerable, and it was terrifying. He still didn’t understand how every aspect of being a Servamp worked, but he knew how the contracted bond worked; how an Eve’s will and emotions felt and how intense feeling them could be. He had just purposely bared his emotions for Licht to understand, and as much as he hoped for a positive reaction and believed he would get one, he was still scared because he’d never exposed his heart so completely until now. The act of simply saying ‘I love you’ paled in comparison, despite that too having been an internal struggle in the past.
His mind didn’t process that he was trembling ever so slightly until a firm grip on his hair moved his head for him, and for a moment, he took the opportunity to lightly press his face against Licht’s neck. It was almost unsettling to no longer crave the blood that flowed just beneath the surface of such smooth, tender skin, but it was also a relief not to worry about repressing the urge to bite and drink. For once, he could just enjoy the familiar scent that was Licht without vampiric instincts getting in the way.
Feeling the shift of his boyfriend’s hips, he gasped softly and reflexively clung to Licht, both arms now around Licht’s waist and his fingers digging into the fabric of Licht’s hoodie. The hands on his cheeks surprised him, but he didn’t protest the way they guided his head up, putting him once again face-to-face with the vampire sitting on his lap. What started off sounding like an insult became more of a compliment instead—words he’d never dared to think he would hear coming from Licht. Speechless, he almost returned the sentiment with a kiss right away, but the open warmth of the glow in his boyfriend’s eyes and the little swallow of hesitation gave him pause. Assuming he understood the little hints, there was something else Licht wanted to say, so he waited. He obviously wasn’t the only one feeling vulnerable.
The five words that followed brought tears to his eyes, and he claimed the soft, inviting lips right in front of him with an urgency that surprised even himself. One hand moved up into Licht’s hair, and he threaded his fingers through it, tugging on it to pull Licht closer to him again. There still the subtle taste of his blood on his boyfriend’s lips, and he embraced it, happy that it was there because of what it meant. They were tightly bound, and he never, ever wanted that bond to break.
The intensity of the kiss was all-consuming, wiping nearly every thought from his mind and putting all of his focus on how wonderful it was to be near and kiss the partner he loved. Licht was all he could see and feel, and he wouldn’t have had it any other way.
When he pulled back from the kiss, he was breathing hard, the tears in his eyes making them shine. “I love you so much, Licht,” he whispered, the corners of his mouth turning upwards to form a soft smile. “I know no ways to mince it in love, but directly to say ‘I love you.’”
Leaning in for another kiss, this time a quick peck, he grinned.
“I guess I’m still a devil to you even though I’m human again, and vampire or not, you’ll always be my angel, Lichtan.”
engelsklavier:
The cultists spilled into the room – nine of them in total, with one of them being the bastard that was two screws short of a fulling working mindset.
It was luck that they all collected together and moved in tangent towards Hyde, whispering words for praise and gratefulness for the gift they had been given; like Hyde was an object presented to them rather than a person they kidnapped. It made Licht’s stomach twist in anger.
But he waited. He let the anger collect within him, let it smooth over the strength that had come back to him and he laid there with his eyes barely open and his head tilted to the side so he could follow their movements.
And then, they spoke to Hyde.
“It’s almost time, within the hour the moon will be full and pouring down over my new partner and you will have turned me and then will willingly kneel before me, crown me your heir and I will kill you,” the head cultist replied, moving across the bridge to stroke his head down the bars of Hyde’s cage.
Licht wanted to move then, but he didn’t want to risk having them all so collected together. He and Hyde had been captured the first time because of their inability to react to surprise – it was the second time in their partnership that surprise is what defeated them and he refused to let it happen again.
“We won’t be drugging you this time,” the main cultist continued, clenching his fists around the bars. “I do not wish for issues during the transfer of position. But if you try anything, my soon to be subclass will make sure my new Eve pays the price for any rash decisions on your part.” The man looked back to his underlings and then smirked, pulling open the cage.
“Two of you, go to my darling angel and make sure he won’t be sentient during the event. I don’t want any surprises and even drugged, he’s gloriously strong. I look forward to our time in bed together.” Licht bit back a scowl as two walked over to him and he knew as soon as they came to him, that was it – the only real chance of surprise he was going to get.
It pleased Hyde to see that the cultists were buying his act, and he seemed to be selling it so well that they had completely ignored Licht when they walked in, too focused on him to pay much attention to the vengeful angel in their midst. That was exactly the way he wanted it, because all the strength and motivation in the world wouldn’t do him any good if he couldn’t get past the water surrounding his cage, and he was counting on Licht to get rid of that obstacle somehow.
The whispers irked him, but he maintained the downtrodden expression on his face, determined not to show that he had regained his will to fight. Instead of giving anything away, he listened, lightly nodding his head to show that he understood the explanation of the process. Just because it sounded impossible didn’t mean he couldn’t understand the idea behind it, so that was easy enough to do.
His eyes followed the movement of the cultist’s hand along the cage bars, and when the hand tightened, he shied away from it and quickly nodded his head again, fear—almost genuine, surely good enough to fool an idiotic cultist—flicking across his expression. “I-I’ll cooperate,” he stammered for added effect. “I’ll turn you, and you can take over. I’ve done some thinking, and you’re right. I want it to be over. I’ve been through too much, and I’ve been ready for it to be over for a long time. Whenever you’re ready to start, I won’t fight the process. Just promise me you won’t hurt Licht once...once he’s your Eve, please.”
That last sentence had been difficult to say, but the way he’d delivered it, the extra stammer worked in his favor in his opinion. As much as it nauseated him to hear the leader talk about wanting to be in bed with Licht, he suppressed the urge to show his disgust and didn’t argue. Venting that anger and disgust could be saved for later, after he was free to deal with the cultists as he pleased.
Watching the cage door open, he waited for any sort of signal or sign that he could attack. It was incredibly tempting to kill the leader then and there, and with his strength restored thanks to Licht’s blood, he was confident that he could do it. The only problem was that there were eight other cultists, two of them with direct orders to drug Licht again, and with the river still barring his way, Hyde wouldn’t be able to attack any of them. If he acted too soon and ruined Licht’s chances at giving both of them the upper hand, he doubted the rest of the plan would be a smooth success. Though he hated putting off escape for even a second longer, he would wait.

Licht woke groaning. Hyde’s body was soft behind him and it made waking up hard. But Hyde’s natural inclination to be loud alerted him to the sunshine that didn’t hit the cage. He blinked, finally waking up.
Leaning forward, he fell onto one palm and clutched at his head. It didn’t hurt, but he did feel a little woozy. Before Hyde could react to him acting almost ill, he held out his free hand to stop the other. “I’m fine,” he promised sluggishly. “Let me just get my bearings.”
He blinked a few times, struggling to his feet. He stumbled twice and then straightened up properly. Finally having come back to himself, he stretched out, arching before turning back to Hyde. “When we get home, we’re going to sleep in a bed for at least an entire day.” He missed his mattress.
Instead of turning to kiss Hyde, as would have been normal for a case of good luck, he moved to the opening to the cage and slipped outside of it. “Get yourself back to how you were when they last saw you. If this all goes to plan, I’ll show you a really good time, you got that shit rat?”
He didn’t want to, but he caged Hyde up once again, fists going pale as he clenched his fingers around the bars in aggravation that they had to do this. He could have initiated his plan now, freed Hyde now and gone on the hunt for their enemies but it was so much easier just to let them come to them.
Sighing, he made his way back to the altar and stared at it angrily before rolling his eyes, gritting his teeth and placing himself back on it. Once he had chained himself back down, loosely but easily mistakable as firm, he glanced back to Hyde and in a rare display of sincerity, smiled at him.
And almost as if timed, the door to the room began to open.
“Lichtan, are you—?!”
Before Hyde could fully react and finish the question, a hand came up in front of his face to stop him and the final word of the question died on his lips. Though he didn’t like sitting back and waiting to see if Licht was really alright, he did as requested and gave Licht the chance to recover.
Relieved to see Licht standing on his own, Hyde couldn’t help cracking a smile at the thought of staying in bed all day next to his angel. Not only would it be nice to spend time relaxing with his Eve, but he sorely missed being able to sleep in a real bed. “I like the sound of that, Angel-chan.~ Leaning against the bars of this stupid cage makes my back ache. If I weren’t a vampire, I’d be sore for days.” But it kept Licht off the floor and in his arms while they slept, so it was worth it.
A kiss for good luck would have been nice, but based on what Licht said, that—and more—could wait until later when they were free and back in their hotel room. Hyde’s smile widened into a full-blown grin, and he got to his feet to stretch the stiffness from his limbs. “Understood, Angel-chan.~ I’ll be looking forward to it.”
While the door of the cage was being put back into place, he returned back to the spot he’d been chained to, prying apart some of the links to reattach the broken pieces near his wrists. They were left loose and separated enough to make it easy for him to break away with minimal effort, but still done well enough that it should trick the cultists into thinking he hadn’t moved.
Once he was situated in the cage, he caught sight of the smile and eagerly returned it. The sound of the door opening, however, wiped the smile off his face. Instead, he quickly mouthed one word—’showtime.’
With that, his features and demeanor rapidly changed. His eyes closed, and he slouched down close to the floor, making his muscles relax as if they were limp and tugging weakly against his chains. His chin was tucked downward, his head slumped in defeat, and when he heard footsteps that signaled someone entering the room, he blinked his eyes several times and slowly lifted his head up, turning it towards the sound.
“Is it time...?,” he asked, hoping his voice sounded as quiet and meek to the cultists as it did to himself.
engelsklavier:
Listening to Hyde admit such things about himself soothed Licht on some level. He pulled back from the soft feel of Hyde’s lips against his own, and wiped clean the blood from the corner of his mouth. A lingering, almost dry smudge he had missed before.
At first, despite his calmness, Licht didn’t know how to respond. It wasn’t that he lacked the ability or the readiness to take in all of Hyde’s feelings but rather, he felt like he had to prelude it with something and words were not his strong suit. Licht worked with music, he spoke through music and here, as a Servamp, he held none to hand.
So he looked past Hyde, his eyes scanned the room around them and settled on the doors to their separate rooms. Doors where, those nights it was either one or the other used but never both. Then he looked behind him and off to the side, to the kitchen unit he and Hyde had played against many times and moved his gaze once more to the corners of the room they rarely paid heed to.
“Hyde,” he said slowly, swallowing as he forced words to spill over his lips. “I don’t need to read your will to know it. I’ve felt it before, many times. I know the depth of your feelings for me.”
But if it was something Hyde was requesting – asking and not commanding as was the important term here, Licht still positioned himself, once more. “But if you feel the need…”
He bit down again. Fangs piercing the same wounds he had pierced a fair amount of time now and this time when the blood flowed into his mouth, he quickly understood why Hyde had asked. It wasn’t just Hyde’s feelings for Licht that swallowed him, but Hyde’s feelings for everything about them and it was intoxicating; drowning. He was suffocating beneath it all.
Unable to stop himself, he stopped gulping but kept his fangs in and wrapped himself around Hyde physically. He urged their hips together, their chests and tightened the way his knees locked Hyde in place. Once he did finally decide to pull his fangs free, he raised himself up and pulled Hyde’s head flush against his chest, with his own eyes going wide, glowing brightly with a vampiric flair.
Licht’s hesitation was obvious Hyde, especially because he could see the way his boyfriend’s eyes looked around the room from one area to another, but not at him. He couldn’t help wondering if he’d asked too much; if Licht wasn’t ready to learn something so personal. Again he turned to body language for the answer, and since Licht was still calm and not pulling away from him yet, he assumed—and hoped—that had to be a good sign. Whatever was causing the delay, it wasn’t his fault.
Listening, he nodded his head in understanding. He was sure that Licht knew of his love—he’d said it and shown it in multiple ways many times to the point that it would have been impossible not to notice and feel it. There was, however, still more he could say, and he was going to let the will in his blood speak for him this time.
“You know how much I love you, but you don’t know everything. Don’t just assume you know already, but you’ll understand if you drink again.”
If. He was still giving Licht the choice and not making it a command, though it was what he wanted. Noticing Licht’s head move towards his neck again, he smiled to himself and waited for the bite to happen. This time, he tried not to let it overwhelm his senses too much, keeping the emotions he wanted Licht to sense at the forefront of his thoughts, but he couldn’t stop the way his body surrendered to being so surrounded and captured by Licht’s presence or the brief, low moan that slipped from between his lips.
His back arched forward, pushing his body more firmly against his partner’s own, and he let his head be directed to rest against Licht’s chest and closed his eyes, listening to the heartbeat he could still hear there. The hand holding onto Licht’s own gave it a gentle squeeze, and the arm still around Licht’s waist tightened, trying to somehow bring them even closer together.
“Now you know,” he whispered. “That’s how I feel, Lichtan. That wasn’t too much for you, was it?”

Licht nodded and pulled back his arm while watching the smudge of his own blood cover the corner of Hyde’s mouth. Tugging down his sleeves, he covered up the wound that stung as the fabric slid over it and then he frowned. A foul discomfort settled in his chest.
The thoughts of what might happen should any of this go wrong hindered the confidence inside of him and he needed it back. Embarrassingly enough, he knew exactly how.
It was strange of him to do so, but he closed the gap between them and encircled his arms around Hyde’s neck, both kissing Hyde’s ear and threading his fingers into fistfuls of Hyde’s hair. It worked frighteningly well as the feeling began to dissipate.
“The plan is easy,” Licht began, feeling stronger still despite the blood loss. Their close presence being the more likely reason. “You’ll catch on quick enough if my strength has fully returned before they do.”
He would have explained the plan to Hyde, but if his partner was good at anything, it was improvisation and they worked best together without words. That was their strength as partners and lovers. They didn’t need to speak, they could feel what had to be done.
Those bastards would come in all egos and victory confident. Assuredly, they would head straight to Hyde and ignore him – they had nothing more to gain from Licht until after their (quite frankly) impossible plan had come to fruition.
And once they did bypass him for Hyde, that would be when he planned to strike.
He drew back from Hyde, but not before wetting the pad of his thumb and cleaning off the remnants of his own blood from Hyde’s mouth and leaning in to kiss him gently.
“They won’t be here until the night. Let me nap here and wake me up when the sun wavers. I need to be back on the altar before they return.”
Licht’s frown didn’t go unnoticed, signaling to Hyde that something was bothering his Eve. Before he could ask what that something was, however, Licht’s arms were around his neck, familiar hands were in his hair, and soft lips kissed his ear. He tensed in surprise, but then his body responded as if by instinct, pressing closer to Licht’s own while he put his arms around Licht’s waist, and his head tilted to follow the will of the hands in his hair.
Such direct, gentle affection initiated by his boyfriend was unusual, and though he was confused, he could hardly complain. Any form of affection or attention given by his Eve—gentle or not—was readily welcomed, making the moment a rare treat.
Just as Hyde was about to ask what exactly had prompted his angel to be so generous, Licht’s voice next to his ear stopped him, the proximity of it sending a short-lived shiver down his spine. Wordlessly, he nodded his head in understanding. Since Licht said he would catch on and figure it out, he trusted that he would be able to do exactly that. Provided that he wasn’t too distracted, improvisation was his best skill; one that he prided himself on. Whatever role his Eve would soon give him to play, he would play it to the fullest like the great actor he was. Those idiotic, bastard cultists would never know what hit them until it was too late.
There was one little thing about those instructions, however, that Hyde didn’t like hearing, and he felt the need to say something. “If your strength has fully returned? What are you saying, Angel-chan?,” he chided. “It’s not if, it’s when. Right? It’s not like you to worry so much. That’s why you frowned just now—you were worried. Don’t worry, Lichtan.~ I believe in you and your plan. We’ll kick their asses and get out of here as soon as we get the chance, and that’s all there is to it. They think they’ve won, but they haven’t.”
The kiss shut him up momentarily, and he returned it and nodded obediently, pulling Licht towards him again. Ignoring any protests, he picked his Eve up in his arms and sat down, leaning against the back wall of the cage. As he had before, he held Licht securely in his lap, the biggest difference being that now his Eve was coherent and aware enough to realize what he was doing.
“Go to sleep, Lichtan. I’ll wake you up when the sun starts to set.”
Several hours later, Hyde awoke from a brief nap himself and glanced over at the alter. The circle of sunlight beaming down on it had dimmed and taken on the glow of sunset, but luckily, it wasn’t too dark yet. It was still bright enough that they should have plenty time before their captors showed up, and he sat up straighter and put his hands on Licht’s shoulders to gently shake them. He didn’t want to send Licht out of his cage and back to the alter, but for Licht’s plan to work, he assumed he had to.
“Lichtan, wake up! The sun is setting.”

Licht scanned Hyde’s face with an intense gaze. Almost innocent in nature when he brought up a finger to smooth over the skin that discoloured when he applied pressure, as was normal with humans. And his heart thudded harder in his chest.
He’d never paid detail to the finer points of Hyde’s body when he were the Servamp. Never thought to see if his skin discoloured the same way. Briefly, he did it to himself, on the palm of his hand and his eyes widened at it’s happening.
Hyde’s primary personality once they had met had screamed demon to him. Selfish, destructive, violent and hungry for his truths to be the real ones, Hyde had seemed every bit the demon Licht had deemed him to be, even to that day.
Now they their position were reversed, he felt ready to admit he might have been wrong.
For if he, an angel could take on this form without it changing his innate self, then surely it could not be as demonic as he first considered? His eyelashes fluttered as he turned his gaze back on Hyde and he inhaled a deep, shaky breath.
The new contract enveloped him, twisted and coiled around him, capturing him. But it was not a thing he wanted to escape from. Rather, he let it all happen without resistance and when it ended and Hyde made that beautiful expression at him, his body drew together tensely, excitable.
He could hardly remember the origin of their conversation any longer and only nodded, edging himself closer to Hyde and leaning in to kiss him softly – letting the more primal instincts of their particular contract swallow and intoxicate him.
“I am yours,” he told the other firmly, “to do with, what you please.”
Licht might not understand the workings of being a Servamp, but he was a fast learner and his new Eve was surely a trustworthy one; after all, they were lovers, were they not?
It was strange being the one who couldn’t internalize and simply know what his partner was feeling with the help of a little taste of blood. That was why Hyde’s eyes were wide and trained on Licht; taking in every breath, every movement, every slight shift of the muscles responsible for the expression on Licht’s face. Since he couldn’t directly sense those thoughts and emotions, he would figure them out instead. He’d studied acting by observation and practiced it for centuries, and recognizing and understanding body language had become second nature to him as a result.
He saw the way Licht’s eyes widened while looking down at a hand—Licht’s own—and heard the way his Servamp’s breath became unsteady and shaken so easily by such a simple action, and he couldn’t help thinking that Licht had just realized something significant. There was no other explanation that made sense, and when he thought back on what that realization could be, he couldn’t quite grasp the answer as he wished he could, but got the sense that it was about both of them. Of course it was about both of them—they were together, and the power of their new contract still lingered around them and within them.
The second kiss was sweeter than the first, but still filled with passion that made his heart swell with pure joy because it was all for him. Licht was in love with him, and even now as human, he could still feel it in the way his boyfriend’s mouth moved with his and the softness of Licht’s lips on his own.
But for all that he understood without a word spoken between them, even the excited willingness in the way Licht’s body tightened and closed in on his, the complete surrender and trust in those words that followed such a tender kiss still blew him away. Licht—amazing, angelic Licht whose power even as a human Eve rivaled Hyde’s normally vampiric abilities—was openly, bluntly submitting to his will, no questions asked.
On the surface, it made sense, because Licht had just become his Servamp and he was now the Eve. Servamps, as a general rule, obeyed their Eves, but he knew from experience that the obedience wasn’t an iron-clad rule. There was room for resistance and loopholes if a Servamp wished to disobey or ignore a command, and yet...as stubborn and strong as Hyde knew his boyfriend was, Licht sounded as if disobedience couldn’t be further from his mind.
For a moment, Hyde simply stared in shock, his lips still slightly parted from the kiss. The shock soon passed, and he quickly recovered, closing his mouth and reaching up to lightly grip Licht’s right hand and lace their fingers together.
“You’re mine, and I am yours. Our contract may be different right now, but that hasn’t changed. It won’t ever change. What I want is you...my Engel.” Sighing softly, he pressed his lips briefly to Licht’s, then pulled back just enough to speak.
“I want you to bite me again—not just because I like it, even though I do like it a lot. But...I’ve felt what you feel for me whenever I’ve drank your blood, and I want you to have that experience too. Drink from me, focus on my emotions this time, and feel how much you mean to me. I could just tell you, but I think you’ll understand better if you feel it for yourself instead.”
There was so much he could say, but if he started talking instead of letting Licht drink, he thought he might never shut up. Licht was, in some ways, truly an angel—and more specifically, his angel, because Licht had managed to kick down his walls and reach out to him when no one else could, and he was more grateful than he could ever hope to say. Back when they had initially formed their first contract, he had tricked his way into Licht’s life, making a place for himself without asking. And then, though it had taken some time, Licht returned the favor, forcing Hyde to open up and let a violent, stubborn angel into his life.
It was almost poetic, and though he could never have seen it coming, it was exactly what he’d needed. And then, without realizing it until it was too late to stop it, he’d fallen in love with his angel. If he were asked, there wasn’t a single thing that he would change about Licht—not the violence, the temper, nor even the way Licht could be a little too unrealistic at times. To Hyde, Licht was already perfect and more than worthy of being the angel he claimed to be.
He was far stronger with Licht at his side, and he knew it. They were partners, perfect together because he had Licht to lift him up and remind him that he could and should keep going; that he had something—and someone—in his life worth wanting. He was so in love, so devoted, and happier than he’d thought possible in a long time, and it was all because of Licht.

“Will you shut up, shit rat,” Licht growled.
The harsh spikes of irritation redden his cheeks and he yanks the almost free arm once again until the chain snaps for real. He reaches over to see if he’s enough strength to undo the other chains but annoyingly, he did not. So, slamming his head down onto the altar, he breathed through his nose and seethed.
“His taste is still on my lips and it’s fucking disgusting. One more hour and I will leave this room, find him and drown him and kill every bastard I find on my way.”
He turned as best he could to glare at Hyde.
“And you. Stop pitying yourself. I thought you were stronger than that? You can’t fight a choice you haven’t been given you idiot, so stop moping and be ready,” he chided the other, between pursing his lips and then spitting out the vile taste. At least it was clear he hadn’t been drugged again.
The cultists were getting cocky, and most definitely underestimating Hyde and Licht.
“I’ve got a plan and you better take your place on the stage when the time is right.” He tugged at the other restraint and once he managed to break free of it, he sat up and his eyes went wide. Perhaps he had underestimated himself. A dark grin spread across his face and he broke free of the chains on his ankles too.
“Short change of plans,” he said, oddly talkative – it was nice to be able to talk again, he supposed. And he jumped off of the table, got to the bridge and broke his way into Hyde’s cage, tearing down those awful chains. The walls must be thicker there, considering the noise he made drew in nobody. “You, drink now. Get some strength back.”
Sometimes, Hyde questioned or teased his Eve over the insistence that Licht thought himself to be an angel, though those times were gradually becoming more and more infrequent. Then there were other times he looked at Licht and it was almost too easy to believe that those claims of being an angel were true—and now was one of those times.
Not only was Licht obviously not drugged, but he was strong again; just as powerful and impressive as ever, and Hyde couldn’t take his eyes off his Eve, his mouth hung open in awe. The death threat to the cultists had him outright grinning before he realized it, and he was looking forward to seeing his Eve back in action and wreaking vengeance on the idiots that thought they could keep Licht restrained.
As usual when it came to getting things done, he knew Licht was right—it hadn’t been his choice, and he couldn’t control his weaknesses. He was stronger, but telling himself so wasn’t good enough to help him in his current mental state. He had needed to hear it from Licht, and thankfully, he did.
“I’ll be ready to play my part, Angel-chan. Just tell me the plan.”
He had no idea if he would be physically ready to go along with whatever plan Licht had in mind, but mentally, he was feeling better already thanks to his boyfriend’s rather unorthodox pep talk. There was a time when it wouldn’t have been so easy to get through to him, but that was in the past and this was Licht talking to him—the first person who had been persistent enough to make him really listen, and he was listening again.
Once again amazed by his Eve’s strength, Hyde watched Licht jump down off the alter and approach his cage, taking that as the cue to back away from the cage door. He waited for the loud crash of the metal to bring someone running, but when it didn’t, he was ecstatic. His chains broken, he didn’t hesitate to obey the command—but stopped short. Habit and instinct inclined him to drink from his Eve’s neck, but if Licht had a plan that required some level of stealth or trickery, obvious bite marks could alert the cultists to be on their guard before the plan had a chance to be put into action. Reaching for Licht’s hand, he pulled it up to his lips and kissed the palm, then pushed up the sleeve of his boyfriend’s hoodie and sank his fangs into Licht’s arm.
Warm, welcome blood poured out into his mouth, and he drank greedily, gulping down as much as he could safely drink without jeopardizing Licht’s recovery. It was such a relief for his dry throat, and his grip on his Eve’s arm tightened, a low, almost feral groan of relief rumbling in the back of his throat. A taste of Licht’s will was the extra boost he needed to fully get his strength back, and when he finally pulled his fangs out and swiped his tongue over the mark, he licked the blood from his lips and flashed another grin.
“I feel much better now.~”
If Licht could have kicked Hyde right then, he truly would have. Words that he so truly wished to berate the other filled his mouth behind the gag and in his irritation, he tugged and rattled the chains enough that it must have alerted somebody to their presence. Because immediately after, a door scraped along the floor and it’s scratching only worsened his mood-
"Ah, I see the two guests of honour are both awake.“
-and that just blew it past Licht’s limits. He thrust up with too much power and the chain hidden best from the cultist cracked, unbeknownst to them. But Licht knew and it was enough for a plan to form in his mind and to settle the boiling fury in his stomach. He fell back down onto the altar and forced himself to go lax as the man came up to him.
His strength still wasn’t at it’s best, but it was coming back swiftly - a few more hours was all he needed. If he could avoid being drugged or beat up before then, then it would be their win. He could break the walls, free Hyde from the ridiculous running water problem and together they would purify these bastards off the face of the planet.
But first - oh god, did it ache him - he had to play coy, weak… alluring.
The cultist walked over to licht and ran his hands along Licht’s stomach, pushing up his jumper. Licht didn’t try to fight it. The cultist seemed satisfied that he had used all of his strength in that one angered tug. And thankfully, before Licht could no longer contain himself, the man pulled away and turned to Hyde.
"Here is the plan. You will turn me, Servamp of Greed, and I will kill you, consume all of your blood and should my research be correct and with the help of one of my serums and the strength of the moonlight, I will take on your mantle.” He taunted them.
“I shall tempt your Eve into becoming mine, a fallen angel at my side will make me most powerful and then-”
He paused and Licht’s lungs contracted as his nerves sunk at the man’s next words.
"And then I will aim for your siblings and their Eves. I will kill them all and be the most powerful - enough to take down the bastard organisation that forced me down this path.“
His hand slammed down next to Licht, fingers swiping at his skin. "Why have I told you this? I want you to contemplate the consequences of you both being as weak as you are.”
The cultist laughed at that and with Licht wide awake, he held him by the neck and removed his gag, kissing him again and as pathetic as it made Licht feel, to escape - he let it happen and once the cultist left, the door closing shut behind him, leaving both Hyde and he alone again. Licht snarled.
"You stupid shit rat. This isn’t your fault.“
Hyde fell silent whenever the cultist walked into the room, shrinking back away from the door of his cage. Fate was horribly cruel, it seemed. Just when he’d been starting to heal and recover from the emotional trauma he’d been shouldering for centuries, the progress he’d made now felt all but gone. The only difference was that, this time, he was consciously blaming himself.
His vantage point from within his cage gave him an unfortunately good view of the cultist’s hands touching Licht, but though nausea twisted his stomach, he didn’t say a word. Any words that crossed his mind were caught in his throat, restrained and unvoiced because he couldn’t find the will nor the energy to say them. He hated feeling so weak, but it wasn’t something he could fight off without a desire to do so—something he currently lacked despite the temper he’d displayed the last time he was conscious.
His temper had been snuffed out by the drug and added holy water in his system, and only the mention of his siblings being targeted put a spark of it back in his eyes. The rest he had heard before, but the threat against his siblings stood out. They were his family, and though the feelings had snuck up on him, some of their Eves had started to feel like his friends; maybe even his extended family, in a way. His family had always been important to him, even back when he’d been so close to never recovering from the madness plaguing him. If the cultist wanted him to stay subdued, that had been the wrong thing to say.
Stirring from within his cage, he tugged on his chains just enough to rattle them, and watching the cult leader kiss Licht was no less painful than it had been the first time. His heart ached as if it had been stabbed, and a pitiful, choked cry of protest escaped him before he could stop the sound. He could tell that Licht didn’t struggle, and an awful, traitorous thought occurred to him for split-second—
Licht was alive...but what if there was a cost to that rescue from the river that he didn’t know about yet? What if the cult leader had grown impatient and drugged Licht again and—
No. He couldn’t think that; he just couldn’t. It couldn’t have happened, because his mind refused to believe it. But then...why didn’t Licht struggle?
Mercifully, a familiar voice and insult dragged his attention back to reality, and it took him a moment to realize that he and Licht were alone again.
“Lichtan, I... H-He didn’t...he hasn’t done more than kiss you and touch you like what I just saw, right? Do you remember if he’s tried to drug you again since you were pulled out of that river? I figured you would say it isn’t my fault, but it still feels like it is. If I wasn’t a monster, I would have been able to go in that water and save you myself, and we wouldn’t be stuck in this stupid room right now either.”
