In accordance with Brown People Time, we are currently accepting submissions up until this Sunday June 21st.

We encourage anyone who identifies as South Asian to submit written works, photographs, and illustrations about issues of mental health, abuse, and trauma. The use of monikers or measures to protect identities are respected. The theme of the first issue is all encompassing, and to serve as an introduction to the issues facing our community.

In making yourself visible as a survivor, you have helped enable someone else to speak on their own experiences. If you're ready to share your story, someone is undoubtedly ready to hear it.

What exactly are you looking for us to submit to you? In specifics?

Hi!We are still taking submissions and they can be anything. For example we have received: art, reflective pieces, and truisms. It is a zine so it's pretty open format; we are a platform for your voices and thoughts! If you need any help or want to talk further drop us an email at [email protected]

 SOUTH ASIAN DATING ABUSE MYTHS Dating is something not fully accepted or spoken about in our communities. Younger folk in relationships that are not approved may feel even more cultural pressure to keep abuse hidden.  As a result dating violence remains an unspoken burden carried by the victims. You do not deserve to be treated badly, and you deserve love and respect regardless of the relationship.  Facts via MySahana, donate here.

Hello! Yes of course we are accepting anon submissions, and respect your privacy. You can email us using a disposable email service such as Mailinator. Or through the submit feature on this blog! We also kindly ask anyone contributing to let us know what type of credit they would like in the zine (initials, first name, monikers). It’s totally up to you. We want to hear from you. Awaaz Zine

Hello! For everyone who has been asking, this first issue of Awaaz will not have a central theme but will instead serve as a sort of introduction for our lovely community. We encourage everyone to submit pieces on anything you feel is relevant to you in your struggles and in your catharsis. Awaaz is a zine that seeks to create a platform for exploring the issues of mental health, trauma, and abuse in the south asian community. We know there is a stigma and we want to do something about it, we want to give you a space to heal. Submissions are open to any south asian. This is a space for non-binary folk too.   Your voice is important.   Send your submissions to [email protected], and let us know if you would like to be published anonymously or with a moniker.
