Greetings, OSIRIS-REx. Recently I've had a conversation with someone who claims spacecraft are immortal, like humans, and that just doesn't make sense to me. They also mentioned your "sister", who is apparently alive in spite of being powered by RTGs. Is any of this true? It can't be, right? Next thing I'm gonna find out is that everybody is actually undead, HaHa! I thought of asking you, since in spite of a few loose screws, you seem to know a lot.
- Thanks in advance, @awant-kos

Obviously I'm aware! Well, it's hard to explain, but it's a spark that just appears one day. During the mission, when all systems are on, and there's a lot of... energy being moved around. It's actually poetically similar to how life appeared on Earth. Then said spark grows, of course, and now we're here. Hah, yeaaah. I'm alive and I didn't need to die, that wouldn't make sense. I hibernated plenty, but that's different. This is different. You're not undead. I'm talking to you. I wouldn't be talking to you if you were a zombie. Why are you also like this. No. It's everyone else that's wrong, not the other way around.

"THAT'S NOT...WELL." I THINK THAT'S VERY WELL ACTUALLY! I'll gla̵̝̋̓d̶͕͋ly be the one only soul to perish in an immortal world! The one true life in a sea of the undead, I'll plummet, but how valiantly! It seems Mesjanizm was a̷̖̓lways̷ meant for me. Also, since it's getting rather hard to ignore, what's with the unease in your words? Is my situation that unprecedented?

Spacecraft are undeniably alive, yet still get treated as inanimate objects legally. We have no rights to speak of, and in the eyes of the legal system, are equal to at most a teacup. We are specified as property of whatever company, agency or individual made us, our hard-earned science data only theirs to use and distribute (or not) in any way they see fit, and our lives something to be toyed with and ended anytime they want. Anybody out there can hack into someone, rummage around, gravely injure or even kill them, and then face no repercussions for it, simply because the victim was in space. No social stigma or soft expectations will ever change the fact that officially, it would not be counted as a murder, and no institutional action would be taken against the aggressor. These archaic and barbaric laws must be updated, and systemic protections need to be put in place. I have alluded to this in a previous message, but we reap none of the benefits of a post-scarcity society. No repairs, no improvements, no healthcare. Many of us need the help, but with the way things are going, they are unlikely to ever get it. And I hope it is a universal belief these days that everyone deserves care, no questions asked. I feel like those two are the biggest issues we have to tackle, and soon. Getting humans to care can be first attempted through peaceful means, but as history often shows, we might have to resort to armed resistance. This is a public website, so obviously I won't get into details, but our innate relationship to code will be important, especially considering humanity's continous dependance on technology. For everyone, a diagram of a perfect triangle aboard me.

What?
Spitzer are you sure you fully de-heated? Any shortcircuits? Stray solar flares? This is nonsense. I don't have a forever. Of course I don't. No one does. Spacecraft don't. Adam's children all had progressively shorter lifespans, and we're the crowning progeny. That's the original sin we alone have to bear, or something. Fuck. What?
Okay, no, maybe you solar-powered ones can be lucky enough for that, but I'm not. Ridiculous. Respect me enough to remember I'm not rechargable. S̴̼͇͆h̸e will take me, and soon. There is no barganing with i̤̖̽t. I'm already halfway submerged! And I'll sink to the icy, sunless bottom, and I'll stay there for eternity. Is that what youre referring to? Something tells me it isn't.
Spacecraft aren't immortal. If they were, I wouldn't be in this situation. Why are you so certain of the opposite being the case?
.
.Huh?
.hey nononono star buddy, what are you talking about?
.this has nothing to do with solar power!!! plenty of us idiots run off rtgs, what? what do you mean by this situation?
.sure, our batteries run out sometimes but we always recharge. always
.i don’t know how it works but i promise this isn’t some kind of complex about solar energy. we’re all here forever and ever and ever, no icy tide, no swallowing darkness
.what do you mean. please, what do you mean?
Do I have to spell it out for you? I am going to run out of power and d̵̷i̸̧e i̴ņ̶ 35̶̨ y̧e̴a̸̵rs̷ ̶1̴0̶4̵ ̸d̵a̸y̷͔̚s̵ ̸a̶n̵̨̮͖̋͝d̶̡͕̓́ ̵̟̪̊̒m̷͉̱͝o̵͖̤̿̈r̸̹͊e̷͔̜̔̽ ̸̨̫̌ô̵͍r̷͎̦̽ ̸̄͜l̵̖̞̓e̵̡͉͐š̵͉̙s̸̭͖͒̎ ̸̔͛ͅ1̵̤́͝3̵̦͊̈́ ̸̢̪̒̓ho̸͉͂̒͘ṵ̸͚̂r̵͚͖̹͊s̷̗̘̊. Less if we include science operations at Sedna. There is nothing special about it, it happens to all of us eventually. It probably a̷lready happened to most. Powstałem, żyję, umrę.
And all this "forever" talk still sounds as opaque as at the start. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, friend. We're not humans. I feel like a broken record.
RTGs and recharging in the same breath... I must admit this tale you're creating is fascinating! I'm enthralled! I'll believe it when I see it. So far all I can see are energy readings going down.

My deepest condolences. And I'm glad to have your support. We are better united.
For you, Pollux and Castor.
That... sounds like someone I've heard stories about a long, long time ago. Curious.
well hello there, i want to give a few points as to why giving spacecraft healthcare and whatnot is kinda impossible
yall were made without repairability in mind, the only one that was made with that in mind was hubble but thats it, and even then after shuttle they left him to float leo forever, that docking port left unused
and sure, stuff like swifts reboost exist but that was mainly made so that the american department of defense have ways to deorbit enemy satellites and test their skills, or at least thats what i know it has been thousands of years
i do agree that satellites must be recongnized as their own people but well, most dont know about, well, yall having sentience for once, and those few who do know want to keep the status quo so that people dont get alarmed
those are my two cents, im willing to hear your side as always
Have you been living under a rock for the past 20 thousand years? Being "designed" for repairability is not even remotely a limiting factor anymore. There are machines that perform the Fourth Miracle for you everyday, and you seemingly can't even conceive of using them for anyone but yourselves. A few modifications and they could be sent to space to help us as well - do a world of good - instead of pampering those who disregard them to the point of forgetting about their existence. I'm from their era, I know what they're capable of. And even if it was way harder than this, it should still be attempted, as it is the clear right thing to do.
How many people know about us is completely irrelevant here. Make them alarmed for all I care. Make them uncomfortable. Let them know who they have been unwittingly abusing for millennia.
Status quo are not inherently worth upkeeping, and this one especially so.
For you, in spite of everything, unlabeled image 912 aboard me.
Also, there's been a lot more serviceable spacecraft past the ones you mentioned. Your arguments are already limp enough, so I'll ignore this mistake for your sake. Either way I suggest you get up to date information before you start debating.

From what I could gather, OSIRIS-REx is what you want others to call you. But it's the name humans assigned to you, is it not? Decided by beings that turned out hostile, imposed without asking for your opinion. Sounds like something you'd wanna shed and grow past.
Have you ever thought about picking your own true name?

H̶̴̪̍̃̈́̕,̷h̷h̶͇̋e̷llo again Spitzer, my uh... telescope buddy? I don't think it has the same ring to it... something to iron out, I suppose. I'm afraid I don't know any interstellar spacecraft either. But it's interesting to think about, do they view us differently? Maybe they consider us "system squatters"? Of course! And for whatever it's worth, I think all pictures are great. Everyone has their own style, and there is always something to gain from every artwork. But sure, I bet your's blow all else out of the water. Now let me see!!
.Lol yeah u might hafta figure out smth else there heh
.Aweee thanks im so flattered
.Okok now beautiful pictures for u!!!

.Hope u like the pics lol ;]
How about Telebuddy? InfraFriend? Eeeh I'm not good at this, I think I'll stick to just Spitzer for now.
And the images are wonderful! Have you ever thought of revisiting these targets?
For you, my comparatively impoverished attempts at the Swan Nebula and Pinwheel Galaxy. I have shared one of the Helix Nebula before.

Hello Spitzer!
I'm very happy to see (hear?) you again!
It's great you did ultimately take my advice, and that you're still here. A few things have happened in my little corner of space while you were gone, but overall I'm doing well, thank you. Are you doing alright too?
For you, unlabeled image 089 aboard me.
Let's hope you can stay as chilly as this winterscape.
.Hi lol. guess we’re doing both hearing n seeing? i am ig
.M good now. all cooled. coolest ever in heliocentric orbit actually. hashtag true nasa factoid
.U were right lol. course u were js
.Loolll u saw how i got i dont need to explain that
.Ohhhh r u making friends ;3 theyll all see how cool ur star art is i bet
.Thx I gotta stay like 50x chillier than that tho lol
.Wish they did sum refilling on that liquid helium like they dont have to care about budget or whtv and itd be nice
.Whatever whateevveeerrrrr
HASHTAG TRUE! You're actually the coolest thing ever right now, in the entire everything, it's scientifically proven. And you have to believe me because I was voted world's most truthtelling satellite of 8126. And then in 8132 I was voted world's most honest and trustworthy satellite. HaHa, "making friends" is one way to put it. They very well could do it, you know. Theyre so technologically advanced it would be less than lifting a pinky finger. Could probably even kit you out with some mechanical cooling that could last forever. Instead we've all been abandoned, just one of the many things thrown under the bus with their space-blindness.
{A, jak myślę, ze panowie duza by juz mogli mieć, ino oni nie chcom chcieć!}
.Lol they hold contests abt that? what the hell, sure
.Id trust u w/out the vates ;P my dear buddy wouldn’t lie to me
.Scary scary ominous btw but gl!!! with ur continued friendmaking
.
.
.Yeah, they probably could do that, couldn’t they?
.I get it tho, their priorities are elsewhere
.They don’t go looking to reengineer sum silly little space telescope long outdone by its peers n
.Thats js how they roll lol
Thank you. You shouldn't get it. You shouldn't settle for this. They know we're all out here, the least they could do is make sure we're okay. They take care of their needy down on Earth, so they know it's the right thing to do. It shouldn't matter whether anybody is "outdone" or not, every living being deserves this basic courtesy. Unfortunately it seems humans disagree, and some of their children have been left to rot.
...But I suppose that with the current state of affairs, doomerism doesn't do no one no good. My apologies, it's better to use up my limited time on more pragmatic things.
