quinn knows that she’s not –– she’s been around santana long enough to know her compassion is hidden carefully from the majority. tonight is just a night she couldn’t stand to hear her brutal honesty, not with the alcohol mixed with the jealousy consuming her. she straightens up as santana sits next to her, crease between her brows as she listens attentively and prepares for her bluntness. it doesn’t come, however, hearing more sincerity in her tone than usual. she senses something more behind her words as santana looks at her. the emphasis was clear, and it doesn’t take long for it to click in her head. she’s caught off guard, but it doesn’t shock her. what does take her by surprise is what santana says next, cheeks flushed as she blinks slowly. her gaze falls to her lap, taking a moment to collect her thoughts.
“boys aren’t that great, anyway. you’re better off not understanding them,” quinn responds to her previous comment, meeting santana’s eyes. “i guess i’m just dwelling on what finn and i had and what could’ve been… and that he chose rachel berry.” she couldn’t fully understand the rachel berry of it all either, but santana’s right. finn broke up with her and moved on –– it happened, it’s done, and it’s time she got over it. “your heart’s showing, s.” she teases santana, smirk covering her lips. unsure if it was the alcohol’s doing or not, this may be the first in a while that they’ve been able to sit down together in a civil manner and discuss what they’ve felt. “thanks.. for thinking so,” quinn thanks her softly in regards to her feeling she deserved better. she wasn’t exactly a model girlfriend, and she questioned her worth as a romantic partner after finn, but to hear from santana, of all people, that she was deserving of more brought her comfort and validation.
❛ What you could have been?❜ There’s a brief disbelief that crosses Santana’s features –– maybe its a product of her own personal animosity towards Finn Hudson, or something else altogether, but when she tries to envision a future where Quinn exists around his orbit, there isn’t a single part of her that can comprehend or craft it. After everything Quinn Fabray had been through, and despite their tumultuous relationship, she couldn’t envision something less than greatness for her. ❛ He would’ve only held you back. His idea of a future is putting a mattress business in Lima or teaching Glee Club after Schuester retires to sell vests in a thrift shop or ends up on a list somewhere. And he’s going to hold Rachel back too. We’re in high school, we’re all going to fall in love, or hook up with people, and it doesn’t have to be permanent. Honestly? Screw him, and screw Berry too.❜
She puts down her cup on the floor, sits crossed legged on the bed, facing Quinn this time. ❛ If you tell anyone about this, I’ll deny it, but you’re the prettiest girl in the entire school, Quinn. You could have anyone you want, but Finn? That’s settling for mediocre and the Quinn Fabray I know doesn’t do anything halfway. You’re right. Boys aren’t that great. Glee Club’s personal dancing tube-man isn’t that great. So forget about him, forget grieving over something you’re gonna think back on five years from now and laugh about. You spent this entire party moping when you could’ve had the fun you deserve. Solo or with someone else. That doesn’t matter. ❜
