i watched dan’s new video while i was at work yesterday and have a little thing i want to say about “straight pride.”

until a straight person is sitting at their desk at their 9 to 5 job watching someone they’ve looked up to for years come out on youtube with the no sound, the captions turned on, and the screen minimized to hide the title of the video so no one sees it because they’re still in the closet and don’t want their coworkers finding out in fear of losing their job, i don’t want to hear a single fucking straight person talking about a “straight pride”.

until a straight person sits in their room crying because they have to wait until college to come out from fear of not being accepted, accused of lying, forced to go to a religious institution in order to “pray the gay away”, or being kicked out of their home, i don’t want to hear a single fucking straight person talking about “straight pride”.

until a straight person lays awake at night trying to will themselves to come out to family that may never speak to them again afterwards, i don’t want to hear a single fucking straight person talking about “straight pride”.

until a straight person has their life threatened, gets a rape threat, or has their family threatened as a way to scare them into coming out, i don’t want to hear a single fucking straight person talking about “straight pride”.

i could care less if you have pride in your sexuality, no matter what it is. straight people can have as much pride in themselves as they want.

but if the argument for “straight pride” is “the lgbt community has it, so we should too,” or “lgbt people are discriminating against us because we’re straight,” then i don’t want to hear a single fucking straight person talking about “straight pride”. be glad you don’t have to go through all the shit the lgbt community has to go through just so you can live as a straight person. have pride in yourself, but don’t try erasing the pride of the people who actually fucking deserve to be outspoken about it.
