Spring is when things come alive again, so I'm tumbling out of my cloud cave here in Seattle to sing some shows and play some new songs. Last weekend was a pretty swell house show on Beacon Hill. Next up is a set with Don Hopwood and Chris Poage at the Triple Door Musicquarium this Tuesday night, April 1. No foolin'. Here are the details for Tuesday's show-- hope you can gather for a drink with me and a fine time! https://www.facebook.com/events/242274775956931/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming&suggestsessionid=9fdd1d034129b594108d0de347115d48
Sunday night will be a roar at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard. I'll be starting the evening off at 8pm, Lowlands will keep up the beat, and Jamila Silvera will bring the bang with her EP release.
A Word about Jamila--this lady has that groove and energy in her voice that makes the bumps rise on your arms and the skin on the back of your neck tingle. It's rare to find a live performance that moves the spirit, but when I hear Jamila live, I feel that vibe. I'm greatly anticipating where she will go with her music, and since this rare bird is from the Atlantic coast, you better catch this opportunity to hear her live before she flies home. Plus, she's got the talented gentlemen of Seattle band Garage Voice backing her up.
I can't wait to play this show along with these fine friends, and I hope you can join us!
Worked on some songwriting for #bushwickbookclubsea in this place for a while. Omnivore's Dilemma & Huck Finn comin up!
I'm packin' up my twang and boots and flying out to Nashville this weekend! I'll be reuniting with my chum, Erin Rae McKaskle, among other good southern folk.
I plan to see the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman, Third Man Records, and a songwriter on every corner. I also want to eat some dirty Mexican food my Nashvillean friends have been ravin' and cravin' about. I'm most looking forward to playing a sweet, sweet show with my good friends Beards, and a crew of other great musicians. If you're in or near the 'Ville, come on out Saturday night to Myrmidon Studios for a great show and say howdy!

Lately
Lately, when people have asked, "When's your next show," and I've replied, "Well, I've got one with the Bushwick Book Club coming up," the questioners' eyes cloud over, brows furrow, and they murmer, "What's a Bushwick?"
A Bushwick, friends, is a perfect storm of book and song. The Club hosts events at various venues around Seattle each month. Every event showcases a particular piece or pieces of classic or contemporary literature and a few talented local songwriters bringing the narrative out through music.
Since I studied literature for my undergrad and taught literature at a private high school, this gig has been jam on my bread. I LOVE BOOKS, friends. And guess what? I ALSO LOVE MUSIC. The first Bushwick I wrote and performed for was a short story from a Jack Straw anthology. I got to meet with the author, Claudia Rowe, who brings some fascinating perspective on concepts of fear and control in her story "Prey." The song I wrote for Claudia's story is called "The Spider," a nod to the title of her upcoming book that she excerpted "Prey" from. I hope to record it this year, but I'm sure you'll be able to hear it in most of the sets I'll play in the next several months because it's so good!
The Bushwick Book Club has been a gift to me in many ways - a challenge, an exercise, and inspiration for songwriting, a network of wonderful artists and fellow book lovers to connect with, and another stabilizing anchor to the city I love. I hope you take a moment to check out the Bushwick Book Club, and make it to a show sometime to experience and support this artful organization. Stay tuned!

Sometimes I look twice at moments in life and ask myself and the universe, "Did that REALLY happen? Was that Real?!" It'll be so Real at the Triple Door in Seattle Tuesday night, but I'm sure I'll do a double take. This will be the superlative show of my musical life so far. Nearly sold out!
