She fell for the idea of him.
Not the person he really was. When it came to his faults, the way he treated her she turned away. Instead of waiting for someone complete, she created her own truth, her own illusion.
To her he was handsome, the way his hair always perfectly framed his face. The way his eyes squint and sparkle her way as he scrunched his nose against hers. Soft touches, long glances.
How could she not believe there was more?
“I don’t want to hurt you”
She ignored what was really there. How he was never sober. The way he got his money. The time of night he would call her.
She was comfort when he wanted it. And she was eager to be it.
“You’re going to hate me”
He was never hers to begin with.
The hurt she felt was not his responsibility.
That she carries with her.
She took this to the next person.
Under the influence and lonely.
A hand on her waist.
Lips at her ear.
One kiss led to two led to a question at the end of the night.
She never thought of him before.
Never wanted him.
“I can’t get into anything right now.”
She created once more.
