Land of Oz by Jeff Marsh
So I increased my caloric intake by 300 calories ever since I started lifting weights, and my stomach looks fatter, is it normal if when I step on the scale the number will be bigger, I haven't stepped on the scale yet, but did you ever gain weight first when you started lifting or how did it go?
This is going to be a PSA to you and all my other lovely ladies (and guys) reading this.
You’re going to gain weight when you first start lifting. I guarantee it. Your muscle fibers are tearing and your body wants to repair them. Torn muscle fibers = lactic acid build ups. When your body goes to repair the fibers, they’re going to grow back stronger than before, and your body is going to start storing more and more glycogen in your muscles because it’s a back-up energy store which you will be tapping into. You’re also going to start holding a bit more water in your muscles than before (and if you start taking creatine, you’re going to hold lots more water in your muscles).
The weight on the scale will go up, you’ll probably even feel like you got “bigger”, but this is a short lived little freakout which you’ll endure. I gained about 10 pounds when I started lifting, and I probably had 5 panic attacks a week, but I stuck with it. After a couple of months, your body gets used to lifting and shit. You’ll put on some muscle mass which means your body will start burning more calories at rest, and unless you’ve increased your calories by triple, those calories will come from fat, and since you’re burning fat, you’ll look leaner, but you’ll probably still weigh more than when you started. This is why weighing yourself is pointless and not a good idea in my books because our brains are wired (at least mine is), to believe that a smaller number on the scale represents a more beautiful physique, but it doesn;t. Weight literally means nothing. Your body could look extremely different at 150 pounds depending on the composition. My highest weight was 185 pounds, and I had cellulite on my stomach and was a size 14. In november I hit 177 pounds but I had abs and was a size 6. It’s all about your bodyfat percentage, not the scale!
this is like the realist shit ever

Chinese doctors bowing down to an 11 year old boy diagnosed with brain cancer who managed to save several lives by donating his organs to the hospital he was being treated shortly before his death.
This should go to history.
You have this one life. How do you wanna spend it? Apologizing? Regretting? Questioning? Hating yourself? Dieting? Running after people who don’t see you? Be brave. Believe in yourself. Do what feels good. Take risks. You have this one life. Make yourself proud.
