Ready for a new podcast? Our newest episode features two National Book Critics Circle award-honored novelists, Ben Fountain and Amy Tan, reading from their work and talking with NBCC Vice President/Online Jane Ciabattari about inspiration, research, readers, awards, the unique challenges of first novels, and the imaginative process that gives their work originality. Since 1974, the National Book Critics Circle awards have honored the best literature published in English. These are the only awards chosen by the critics themselves.
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new podcast! This week's episode features award-winning nonfiction author Erik Larson and David Guterson, who reads from his recent collection of poetry. After the readings, Peter Mountford moderates a conversation about the authors' work, their research methods, and literary arts in the Pacific Northwest. Nothing like some nonfiction, poetry, and good conversation to get you through Hump Day. https://www.awpwriter.org/magazine_media/podcast_view/294
Happy Podcast Wednesday! Listen to our newest episode, which features readings from award-winning authors Gish Jen and Tobias Wolff, followed by a conversation moderated by Jess Walter, who had a starring role in last week's podcast. For legal reasons, AWP can't guarantee that listening to this podcast will make your Wednesday better, but we have a feeling it will.
Registration for #AWP15 is open! Can't wait to see you guys there.
Were you thinking you could use a podcast featuring Chuck Pahalniuk, Jess Walter, Cal Morgan, and Monica Drake to spice up your Wednesday? What a coincidence, so were we! We have so much in common! Listen to award-winning authors Jess Walter and Chuck Palahniuk sit down with editor Calvert Morgan of HarperCollins, who edits Walter's work, and Monica Drake, who is in a writing group with Pahalniuk, to discuss the alchemy behind creating such great works of fiction as "Beautiful Ruins" and "Doomed." More than just a conversation on the nuts and bolts of getting a book published, they will look at how the author/editor relationship affects the novel on the shelf. https://www.awpwriter.org/magazine_media/podcast_view/292
New podcast episode available! Listen to renowned poets Natalie Diaz, Lucia Perillo, and Dean Young read from their fantastic work and discuss poetry with Michael Wieger, Executive Editor of Copper Canyon Press. #AWPPodcast Natalie Diaz is the author of "My Brother Was an Aztec," Lucia Perillo is a Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award winner and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, and Dean Young is the current Texas Poet Laureate and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and Griffin Poetry Prize. For those who only look at the bigger picture, yes, New York is the publishing epicenter of the country, and a lot of people who write do live in Brooklyn. As someone who writes for a living...

Arts Advocacy Day 2015
AWP staffers and hundreds of dedicated arts supporters - from 45 states - are together in Washington, DC for the 27th annual National Arts Advocacy Day, the only national event that brings together a broad cross section of America's cultural and civic organizations. These arts advocates represent a united effort to tell Capitol Hill how important the arts are to our communities, how much arts education means to our children, and how the arts improve our daily lives. Over 85 national cosponsoring organizations, including AWP, have helped Americans for the Arts shape this united arts message to Congress. Please take two minutes to send a customizable message to Congress, showing your support for the hundred of advocates on Capitol Hill today!
