Settling into the cabin Phantom bought for the two of you was the best thing to do after a hectic few months of nonstop work loads. You were glad you had suggested taking a week long vacation.
“Hey, babe, I’m gonna go take a bath. Would you wanna join?” You wrapped your arms around his neck, leaning up to kiss his lips.
Phantom hummed and smiled down at you when you pulled away. “Tempting, but I think you deserve some alone time to just relax. We have all week with each other. I was thinking of taking a short walk around here.”
You pouted up at him, letting your arms fall to your side. “Are you sure?”
“Positive. I know you don’t get much alone time as it is. I won’t be long, okay? I’ll be back by the time you get out darlin’."
You nodded, still looking a bit upset. You knew he was right. Having all week with each other was a miracle, but you also knew you wanted that alone time to clear your head before you actually got that quality time.
Phantom gently lifted your chin with a finger and leaned in, giving you a reassuring kiss. "I’ll be back, you go get in that tub and just relax and unwind, alright? I love you.”
You smiled and giggled as he pulled away. “Alright, I will. I love you too, be safe out there, okay?”
“Of course. See you in a bit, sweetheart.” He smiled as he waved and closed the front door.
Watching you head further into the cabin, he turned on his heel and grinned, looking around the woods taking in the fresh air.
Sighing, he started walking down the dirt trail until he was sure there was a good distance from himself and the cabin.
Stretching out his arms, he sighed in relief when he heard his bones pop. “Alright, let’s see what’s around here."
A dark red mist surrounded Phantom as he started to turn into a raven. As the mist started to fade away, he stretched out his wings and started to fly above the trees.
Feeling the air through his feathers as he flew through the sky, he spotted a little opening with a little meadow in the center. Circling the meadow and feeling the warm sunlight hit him, Phantom let out a friendly call and saw the different animals around pop up.
After flying around one more time, he landed on a nearby tree branch. Phantom took a second to take everything in and made a mental note to take you out here for a picnic the next day. He made a little sound again, unaware of two strangers nearby in the bushes.
"Shhh, do you hear that?” The two men looked around their surroundings, searching for the source of the sounds.
“James!” The younger one stood quickly and pointed to one of the trees in the distance.
The older one, James, roughly pulled the others backpack down, making him kneel in the bush again.
“I see it, Allen. Now shut up.” Taking out his binoculars, he focused on the tree and saw the raven still perched on one of the branches. “Do you have your arrow ready?”
“Y-yeah..” Allen was fumbling with his bow and arrow. With shaky hands, he tried his best to aim at the bird before he closed both of his eyes and released.
To them, the raven flew away after being startled with the sudden attack.
“You fucking piece of shit! You missed!” James angrily stood up and headed towards the tree to retrieve the arrow.
Allen stood up and followed quietly. Seeing the other man just stand there staring at the ground he raised an eyebrow and took a look. “Where’s the ar- what the hell is that?!"
Both men stared at the ground where the arrow should’ve been, only to find drops of something black dripping from the branch.
In a cloud of red and black mist, Phantom desperately tried to change back, landing harshly on the ground. His wings were the only thing that stayed present, the arrow stuck in his left wing. He gathered all his strength to push himself towards the cabin door.
"Ugh! Fuck!” Taking a look at his wing, he saw the black liquid drench the feathers and cover the broken arrow.
Taking a deep breath in and out, he used his weight to get the door open. “(Y/N)! HELP!” Falling to his knees, he started to cry when his wings tried to curl up, causing pain to shoot through his nerves.
Immediately, he saw you running down the hall. Your screams and frantic questions fell on deaf ears as his vision blurred and faded to black as he hit the floor.
Frantically looking around, you remembered you packed a first aid kit, just in case. Taking a deep breath in and out, you tried your best to carefully take Phantom to the bedroom.
Draping an arm around your shoulder, you helped him into the bedroom and gently placed him on his stomach on the bed.
Breathing heavily, you looked through your bag and found the first aid kit in the bottom of your bag. Placing it beside the bed, you headed into the kitchen to find a bowl to fill with water.
“What the fuck is happening….”
Looking under the sink, you found a reasonably sized bowl and quickly put it in the sink, turning on the water and letting it fill up.
Turning around and taking a few deep breaths in and out again, you looked over to where Phantom fell, seeing a pool black liquid smeared by the wings when you picked him up. “Everything’s going to be okay….he’s going to be okay….get a grip, (y/n). You got this."
Closing your eyes for a moment, you turned back around, shutting off the sink, and grabbed one of the rags on the counter placing, it over the edge of the bowl.
Carefully picking it up, you made your way back into the bedroom. Seeing your boyfriend passed out and vulnerable made your chest feel like it was closing in on itself.
Setting the bowl by the bed, you took the chair that’s by the vanity and set it by the injured wing. Looking at the arrow poking through, you carefully broke it in half where it was poking out. Tossing it into the trash can, you looked back at the hole it left.
"My poor baby….who would fucking do this…” Taking your time washing and cleaning out the wound and weird blood soaked feathers, you carefully checked the other wing to make sure it also isn’t damaged.
Seeing it all clear, you took a look at his face and arms, seeing there are small cuts here and there. “You really got busted up, didn’t you…” Placing a soft kiss to his cheek, you made quick work of patching up those small cuts while gently cleaning the dirt off his face.
Sitting back in the chair, you dropped the now dirty and soaked black rag into the murky water bowl. Letting your head rest against the back of the chair, you let out a tired sigh. “You’re gonna be okay." Looking back at Phantom, you reached over and gently squeezed his hand. "I’ll be here when you wake up…”
It was morning when Phantom slowly opened his eyes. He felt the warm rays of sunlight hit his wings from the window. Slowly, he turned to his side, and saw he had bandages on his hands and arms. He looked around the room and saw you sleeping, still sitting in the chair while your upper half was laying against the bed.
He gently shook your arm, trying to wake you up. “(Y/n)? Love Bug…wake up..it’s morning, beautiful.”
Your eyes fluttered open and you immediately sat up when you realized that Phantom was awake. You went to speak, but a yawn came out instead. “Sorry….but you’re awake! How are you feeling? Does anything hurt, still? Are you hungry? I can make us breakfast-”
“(Y/n), baby doll. Shhh. I’m okay, a little sore but that’s expected honestly….what about you? I’m sorry I made you worry so much.” Phantom gently took your hand in his.
You shook your head at him and gave him a small smile. “No, don’t apologize. I’m gonna worry about you no matter what, Phantom. You mean the world to me, so I only worry because I love you. I was so scared seeing you pass out and blood being spilled everywhere…"
You looked at him a little confused. “Thank you?”
He smiled and nodded. “Yeah, thank you for cleaning me up, for taking care of me, for being brave for me. You’re an angel, sweetheart.” Carefully, he pulled you in for a tight hug.
“I’m glad you are too. I’m sorry about the mess I made when I came in..”
You giggled softly against his chest. “It’s okay…I cleaned it up while you were asleep.”
Phantom was about to speak when his stomach made a noise that caused you both to giggle and Phantom to blush a light pink.
“C'mon let’s go make you some food.”
