I’m sorry to send two asks so close to each other, but I just thought of another character
Ianto Jones from Torchwood!!
Ianto Jones from Torchwood is Autistic!
Non comprehensive list of things that i've mentally retconed from Jack Harkness' character because I think it's the writers weird beliefs bleeding through to the character. (My "he would not fucking say that" list).
That weird transphobic joke he made in s1 ep7. Jack would not have issues with trans people. In fact he would probably not even notice, it's so normlized in his time that he doesn't raise an eyebrow at it (see: Cassandra being canonically trans. "Ladies, gentlement, and all variations there apon". Ect). Jack has also definitely done drag and drag queens/kings. He does not give a single flying dick about what someone identifys as. Just tell him what to call you and how to fuck you and he's happy.
The body shaming. That man fucks aliens. He does not care about what someone weights.
His weird rant about estrogen in the water? What was even the point of that joke? "Haha women bad"?? Jack's lucky Ianto wasn't there cuz he'd rock jack's shit for that.
Every time he calls a women a bitch. Idk why, I just feel like he wouldn't. He has a base level of respect for everyone, regardless of what they've done and there are lines that he doesn't cross no matter what. It just feels weird (especially in "something in the water" which is the example I can think of off the top of my head. The "water hag" (already a wild monster name, I really think that writer had a bug up his ass about a lot of things) was trying to repopulate earth with her children, which would kill humanity but it's also a somewhat understandable reasoning and I don't think Jack would be demeaning her about her gender for trying to keep her species alive.)
adding to the list- in doctor who when he says "the pleasure was all mine, and that's all that matters in the end".
I feel like they were still trying to figure out Jacks character and he changed a lot in between then and Torchwood/where he ended up.
Listen, I know there's a pop culture reference about some brittish comedy show and that's probably why but Ianto really named the animal that lead to Jack finally accepting him and welcoming him into his home and life "my beloved" in his native language? And the name was popularized by a song in which a man laments his unrequited love?
Ianto...
When I was in high school one of my teachers called me a communist. In front of the entire class.
I was 14.
He wasn't even the worst teacher there. My science teacher was a condescending probably paedophile.
Gray died in the Torchwood frozen stores.
I wonder how many nights Jack stays up thinking about the fact that he let gray go again.
He let go of his hand again.
Gray died again. Because of Jack again.
Because he forgot him. Because he let him go.
Out of all the many, many fantastic things Ianto Jones has done, one of my personal favorites has gotta be when he shut down owen's threesome proposition real quick.
Cuz you know if he, Ianto, and tosh did actually have sex Owen would pay almost no attention to tosh and that shit would haunt her till the end of her days.
Ianto Jones, you have to stop being such a cutie patootie, they're going to kill you ianto Jones.
I'm shocked there aren't more scent kink fic with Jack. He canonically smells erotic naturally
Why are we not taking advantage of this?
Is now a good time to mention how much the Torchwood tower looks like a clit?
wait can someone like make a chart i am not seeing this
it's less that the tower itself looks like a clit and more that the entire plasa looks like a vagina and the tower is where a clit would be
I bet Jack lays awake at night thinking of that time he was dancing with Ianto and was secretly grieving the fact he wasn't the one marrying Gwen.

Sanji, drunk: If you were a girl, I would kiss you.
Zoro, completely sober: But what if you were a girl, too?
Sanji: Woah. oh my God. We could be like. Two girls kissing. Zoro you should be trans with me, we could be hot women together and kiss!
Zoro: I..... I'm not sure how to make fun of this because you genuinely look so excited to be a woman. Is there something you're not telling me, cook?
John trying to get Jack to run away to the stars with him is so funny when you realise that this is like 12 hours after the doctor offered the same thing.
Like dawg David Tennant with all of time and space couldn't make this man disloyal. You really think you're better than David Tennant with a Tardis??
Jack making out with John and then asking Ianto on a date directly after is wild work.
Especially with that bit in serenity when he tells Ianto "i'm only seeing you. I may not be perfect but i'm not a monster". Implying he never cheated on Ianto while they were in a romantic relationship.
Him and John's fight was like his bachelor party, one last hurra before being tied down.
Is now a good time to mention how much the Torchwood tower looks like a clit?
Rewatching the season one fanale and Ianto's reactions make me sick.
He isn't even allowed to grieve him properly.
This is after "broken" they're in their weird situationship "we're fucking but can't admit we're in love" bit.
He's spending his nights in Jacks bed and his days pretending like he doesn't yearn for him with every ounce of his soul.
He just has to stand there, surrounded by people, staring at his dead body. He's not even allowed to mourn.
He's not allowed to grieve Jacks death.
GWEN is permitted to grieve him. And be alone with the body. And act like she loves him.
And the only time Ianto is allowed to express his pain and his love is one moment, while alone in his office, sobbing into Jacks coat
And then he has to wipe his eyes and go back out like nothing happened.
He offers Jack a handshake. He's so sure Jack wouldn't want the team knowing about them that he holds his grief in till he breaks and restrains himself to a handshake when the man he loves comes back to him.
