A soft smile played at the corners of her mouth as she thought about all of this, && where their relationship could possibly go. Could it go further…?

           The first drop of rain hit her nose && made her look up at the sky, humming in thought. They still had a good while before the rain started. Maybe it was just a stray droplet that fell. Ash shrugged her shoulders && looked back up at Chris. ❛ We should do this more often. ❜

        “I hike almost every week, now, so I’m sure I do it enough. It’s nice to have company, though. Mostly I just dive into my thoughts when I’m alone. It’s easy to get lost when you do that, though. I know from experience.” He rubbed her arm and then dropped his at his side as the incline steepened a little.

        “Just let me know if we are moving too fast, okay?”

          ❛ You know I will. ❜  Ashley nodded && took his hand again, humming lightly as she closed her eyes. She didn’t know this part of the trail, but she dropped his hand again as they climbed the incline. Her eyes turned to the sky again, observing what’s going on with the clouds. She wasn’t very sure how far they could go, but she couldn’t really tell. Humming once more, she crossed her arms behind her back with a smile.

                ❛ If you’re offering me lunch, who am I to decline? ❜  Ashley laughed as she began to glue the mug to the desk, hands moving slowly and deliberately. She hummed softly, a song she had heard on the radio on her way into work. When she was done, she leaned back and examined her handiwork.                 ❛ If you’re up for pizza, I’m totally up for it. Honestly, I eat more than I should, but I can’t stop. ❜

           Ryan gave a smile, feeling a bit more at ease about his offer. He honestly didn’t want to seem like one of those sort of guys. It was simply a friendly gesture. Two co-workers having lunch. She was new, after all. It only seemed right. And a banana was hardly a lunch anyways. 

         ❛ Pizza sounds fine. Any place in particular you feel like going to? I know some people are picky about their pizza. ❜

               Ashley hummed && leaned again, crossing her arms behind her head. She sighed && stood up, stretching lightly as she turned to look at Ryan. It was okay, right? To accept a lunch invitation from a co-worker? She didn’t see anything wrong with it, to be honest. It was really sweet.

❛ Well, you gotta get your face outta your phone. ❜   Ash gave him a quick grin && trotted a bit ahead of him, turning her face to look up at the sky. She watched it darken for a moment before turning to look back at Chris. She flashed another smile, && blew a kiss. But the dark clouds made her shiver, made her hike her jacket around her shoulders just a little more. But she pulled back and walked next to Chris, her hand reaching down to take a hold of his lightly.

        Chris went to comment on what she’d said when he became distracted by her trotting ahead of him. He reached out and smacked her ass, because why not? She had a nice one, to put it simply. He knew that eventually he would need to bring about the plans to take their relationship even further. It was time for him to take that leap, and he loved her so much, that Chris knew that she was the one.

        “You’re cold~” Chris said to her in a singsong voice when she pulled back and resumed her place next to him. Chris wrapped one arm over her shoulder, and hugged her to his hip.

Chris jumped at the touch, not expecting it. He made a point of recovering quickly, offering a small smile.

                 “Yeah, I mean—he hadn’t seen me since middle school, it wasn’t really his fault.”

❛ No. It is his fault. You are clearly male, in both mind && body. Everyone sees that, Chris. Please… Stop making excuses for them. I hear the snide && rude tones in their voices. They’re either afraid of you, or hate you because of who you are. Please stop making excuses for them! ❜

He fidgets, grimacing warily.

It’s unconvincing, even to him, and he sniffs, putting his glasses back on and avoiding Ashley’s eyes.

                “I just don’t want to deal with it all the time, y’know?”
