The mind is a tool for us to use in order to think critically and to be discerning. Yet we should also apply that same attitude toward the mind. Just because the mind has a thought or series of thoughts doesn’t mean they should be accepted at face value. The mind is one of many advisors we have, some others being insight, intuition, rhythm, and love. A wise ruler will listen to their advisors carefully, not only hearing their advice but also the place from which that advisor is coming. Ruminating and digesting this information, the ruler may find some measure of clarity. If the ruler were to simply do whatever the advisors tell them, they wouldn’t be a ruler.
