Justin Kurzel, director of critically acclaimed Snowtown, Palme D'Or-nominated Macbeth, and the much-anticipated adaptation of blockbuster games franchise Assassin’s Creed, discusses his filmic influences, unpicks the challenges he's faced and offers advice for emerging filmmakers.
Arnaud Desplechin talk about his new film : “My Golden Days” was about very young guys and girls, and this one is about mature guys and girls, full of bitterness and anger and furious characters. Strangely enough, one of the characters shares a name with a previous character, but the two characters are quite different. This film will be shot all around the world. We have a lot of cities we will visit — the shape and form of it are quite different from anything I’ve ever done, and in the beginning it’s much more like psychological thriller, which is a genre I’ve never explored.”

Ghost in the Shell whitewashing continues to fuel online backlash
Hollywood still is not learning its lesson when it comes to whitewashing and yellow face. A new photo released today shows Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi in the upcoming adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, sparking Ming-Na Wen and many others to speak out online. This isn’t even the first example of Hollywood whitewashing this week. Cough cough Marvel.
