The only thing that genuinely bothers me about the finale is that it reeks of Neil Gaiman to me. Like this is the exact type of “see? theyre together!… in a way lol” bury-your-gays shtick I just know he would love to pull with these characters. That’s why I find it irritating when people are still dying on stupid, maybe,-speaking-in-good-faith,-“unconsciously-bigoted” hills to defend it & acting like they’re ontologically Better People for “properly appreciating” it.

I’m sorry but you genuinely cannot make me feel bad for hating what we got. Considering that they openly kept not only the original ending Gaiman wrote, but other scripting/executive decisions too… and they were pretty damn public about this information… like I’m not gonna judge people for liking the ending, I’m choosing to interpret this general response as a result of people just not knowing about the Gaiman shit they kept & lacking the depth of context ppl from the OG gomens fandom might otherwise have... But if people are being nice about you personally for enjoying it, I don’t understand this apparent need to speak down at others for the inverse 😭😭. I’m tired of my asexuality being used as a shield for these creators’ homophobia

I have a lot of opinions on the finale but I do think that it was kinda inevitable that Good Omens TV ultimately wasn’t actually able to outrun the shadow of its creator’s vitriolic, thinly-veiled disdain towards queer people that he couldn’t personally fetishize and/or tokenize for financial gain, at least in any way that actually mattered

Now that we can speak critically of the author without being publicly executed, there’s so much to be said about how Neil intentionally pitted his ace & gay fans against each other purely out of his knee-jerk longtime fear of… shivers… g*y s*x… and how it’s still a massive unacknowledged part of today’s gomens discourse, but I don’t think the fanbase is ready for that conversation yet.

I know we all think Aziraphale is gonna come back from heaven dearly missing wine and food and good music but I think he's gonna come back and immediately crawl under a blanket because he is severely overstimulated by the fucking Big Light energy in heaven.

Those fluorescent overhead lights and the sheer brightness of this place absolutely do not mesh with the autisms, I mean look at his bookshop!! Dim and muted. Poor thing

Publishers' Binding Thursday

I found this book while browsing the stacks in search of a good publishers' binding. This one does not disappoint! This is Italian Hours by American-British author Henry James, published in 1909 by Houghton Mifflin Co. Italian Hours is a book of travel essays about Italy, a country that James loved, that are considered very charming but not unrealistic. This edition features illustrations of Italian scenes by American etcher, lithographer, and illustrator Joseph Pennell.

The cover features a mosaic-esque design stamped in gold with a blue florals and flourishes and leafy green patterns. The book cloth is a brickish red-orange color and the spine features a motif similar to that of the front cover. There's nothing special about the endsheets, which is always a disappointment to me. I just wish more people paid attention to the endsheets! But otherwise it's a very nice binding.
