Zuko dragged Azula out of a mental institution to a situation that was probably very triggering just so he could use her to get information from Ozai and everyone expected for her to end the trip like:
like make it make sense pleasee😭😭 they did her so wrong😭
Ya know what this is a good point. Like her mom was a major trigger and they just excepted that to go well???
Granted idk if Zuko or any of the others knew that Ursa specifically was who Azula hallucinated but still...
yeah, the others may not have known about Azula's hallucinations or triggers having to do with Ursa, but no one seemed very considerate about the fact that Ozai also caused major harm to Azula. they practically just used her for Zuko's benefit :/
This drives me up the wall. In the show, Azula manipulates a relatively free Zuko back to his abuser and this is very clearly framed as a Bad Thing, because it is. In the comics, Azula has been imprisoned in an asylum and has little to no agency left to her, and Zuko pulls her out and gives her abuser access to her in order to get what he wants all while she’s still experiencing paranoid delusions, and this is framed as Fine if not Good when it is anything but.
THIS!!!! the double standards! i love Azula's character but i will never deny the harm she did to those around her in the show, but it seems that just because Zuko has changed it means that everything he does with Azula is seen as him being a "savior" or kind in every way, when in reality that is so not the case.
Yo, i never even considered this like, why were people so scandalized that she had episodes and was, idk, NOT OKAY during their search for her and Zuko's mom? Like, you do know you actually took a mentally ill and generally unstable 14 year old out of a psychiatric clinic, right? Yeah you wanted to search for your mommy so hey, let's interrupt her treatment and put her under a plethora of situations where we line up all the things that trigger her and act all "Ugh, Azula is always like this" when she snaps, kay?
What bothers me about this is that there was like, no in between. It was either keep her in this western style asylum (which shouldn't exist in a world based on imperial china/japan) ad infinitum or have her untreated and around people who will definitely be triggering like...did no one consider a third option for this? Having her stay with a caregiver, an outpatient treatment of some sort, anything? Did nobody try to research eastern mental health practices? And why didn't at least Zuko, or hell, even Iroh give enough of a fuck to try and understand her illness? Anyways on this blog we advocate for Fire Nation mental health care reform.
